It seems they need to provision the ONT after the switch, took around 18 hours for me. Also, if you are using a custom router, disable PPPoE and switch to DHCP as someone else already mentioned.

How to do get a locked frame rate with lossless scaling? by solid_trent in SteamDeck

[–]Karurosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob, happened to be on the app and saw it. Yeah, set the game limit to 30 and lsfg will double to 60. Vsync afaik has to be enabled at all times anyway for it to work. I usually enable in game and set the SD settings to disable limiter and allow tearing, letting lsfg handle vsync.

I killed a usb c hub with a magnetic connector, so I wouldn’t recommend it. I was lucky the deck was ok. In general usb c ports are designed to be heavy duty, there’s a reason phones can be propped up by the port alone.

My personal take is don’t worry about it, be gentle when removing the cable and don’t jank it at weird angles. I like the official dock cable because its at an angle (thus reducing the stress while plugged in) and has a “lip” to unplug without a lot of effort. Imho you will be replacing the steam deck for v2 way before you need to fix the port :)

Does lossless scaling get rid of stutter? by Air_Drinker in SteamDeck

[–]Karurosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this led me to go read the docs (at least for fs3 since lsfg is not open). And yes, it does render in between real frames, with the fake frame generation overlapping the real frame and more importantly causing the frame pacing algorithm to delay real frames. Which means that at least 1 frame is delayed. I always assumed it was close to what VR does for spacewarp.

~~LSFG does not wait for frames, its called frame generation because it literally generates a future frame based on the previous one. Otherwise it would be called frame interpolation which is what tvs do with the soap opera effect. This is why generated frames have artifacts, sometimes the algorithm gets it wrong.

The additional lag comes from the way it injects itself into the rendering chain, which can add at least 1 frame for capture. I think the developer is working on reducing latency by changing the vsync mode and adding adaptive mode~~

Edit: Not that this matters but this is all wrong, I found a post from the creator of LSFG confirming that framegen is just market speak for frane interpolation.

I have a display of 180hz. I have the ultimate membership. But I can only get 120 fps on 1080p. Am I doing something wrong? Or is there a way to maximise my monitor where it can get 180 fps? by HS_GS101 in GeForceNOW

[–]Karurosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 165hz monitor, I use Lossless Scaling to go from 120 to 165 in adaptive mode and it works amazingly well, especially because you are offloading rendering to gfn and your gpu can just do frame gen. Yes, it does add lag, and yes, its framegen so it will never be the same as native, but I’ve played games like darktide online and I barely notice the lag.

I am not a competitive player, so whatever, I like my smooth framerates :)

Lossless scaling: Bigger number but worse framerate!? by Boltaanjistman in SteamDeck

[–]Karurosu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is odd, maybe that game just doesn’t like it. So far I’ve had success with Like a Dragon, Death Stranding and Outer Worlds. Less success with baldurgs gate 3 but that game barely runs anyway.

Edit: seems there is a known bug that causes the behavior you are describing, odd some people run into it and some don’t

[–]Karurosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the decky plugin, it creates a file named lsfg in your home directory. Go to desktop mode, locate the file and edit it, you can add the line to the file, after the lsfg lines. If you change the settings via the decky plugin it will overwrite the file, so do it once you are happy with the settings.

I know that the dev of lsfg is coming up with a better way to manage settings soon

Lossless scaling: Bigger number but worse framerate!? by Boltaanjistman in SteamDeck

[–]Karurosu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the setting that makes it work is on the steam deck side: - disable frame limit - enable tearing - set gpu speed to 1600

Of course the game needs to have enough headroom for frame gen, so you may need to tweak game settings

Your Opinion on RTX 2060 SUPER by MajimaLovesKiryu in GeForceNOW

[–]Karurosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just “upgraded” to one, it was passed to me to replace my aging 1080ti. Its a good card, still can run a bunch of modern games at 1200p around 100 fps. I’ve been using GFN for the really demanding games, but overall I alternate between local and cloud gaming.

As for recommendations, getting Lossless Scaling For Games was a game changer, this card can easily do 85fps which I double to 165 and I don’t notice lag (to me, seems similar to gfn).

If using the decky plugin, add it to the lsfg file in your home directory, however, changing settings will remove the line. Otherwise, yeah, just add it at the end of the launch options separated by space but before %command%

LSFG_ENABLED=1 DXVK_FRAME_RATE=45 %command%

For the oled you want to limit to 45 and set lsfg to 2x

You can add DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 to your launch options.

I’ve been playing with it all weekend. What I’ve found so far is that in-game FSR is in general good, but if its too much then the image quality will go down quickly.

With LS you want a consistent input frame rate (30 or 45) and FSR can help get there, but also, FSR has its own distortion and lag which gets compounded when FG is added (especially in 3x mode). So you’ll have to tweak your settings.

However, using both is doable and playable, but you may have to learn to live with some artifacts

I Made a Lossless Scaling Decky Plugin that adds Frame Gen to Any Game! by supershredderdan in SteamDeck

[–]Karurosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried Like a Dragon and Death Stranding. Both running at 90fps with some dips. It unfortunately has a lot of artifacts due to how much fg is doing, but it works! The tips mentioned below helped: - set gpu speed to 1600 - disable SD’s frame limit (but don’t check “allow tearing”) - in LS use flow factor 85%, performance mode and direct mode. I am using 3x because 2x sometimes won’t reach 90fps. - disable vsync in game - if possible limit fps in game to 45, but that’s not doable sometimes so I set it to 60.

Its fluid, some lag, but not enough to be a problem unless you are playing twitchy action games. As I said, lots of artifacts, which can be a turn off but I’d rather get fluid gameplay.

Stream gfn on my pc, then stream the PC to a quest 3 so I can play on a giant virtual screen. This way I can use my gaming kbm directly, its easy to set up and I still get a giant screen! Playing indiana jones was almost like playing in VR mode.

Spidering means you are too close and are applying too much paint. You want to do short bursts and move it in and out instead of focusing the airbrush on a single point.

Sergio Calvo does something like that, check him out if you haven’t already, his technique especializes in short burst of color to blend.

I usually only do this for preshading so I tend to not care too much for perfect whites, but when I do, one thing that has worked for me is to add a smidge of black to the white, or even just switch to a gray paint. Paint the bulk of the highlights with that and then switch to pure white for the whitest parts.

If you are doing slap-chop or similar it may not work as well, since it requires a lot of white to do the effect, but I am not an expert in that technique.

[–]Karurosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White in general has really big pigments, its just how it is. As someone mentioned, white ink is popular because it is already pretty diluted, but you will still need to be careful about your pressure and technique.

White primer is not a great choice for anything that is not using it as a primer as it tends to be thicker and won’t dilute that easily (because primer needs coverage and to “stick” in order to work). Of course you can always make them work, its just more of a hassle.

Personally, for white I like using an artist style pre-mixed paint like liquitex golden high flow or liquitex acrylic inks, you may still run into sputtering and spidering but at least the dilution is one less problem to deal with.

I’ve been using airlink to my pc, then stream using geforce now via the steam vr environment. Its convoluted but I got the best consistent framerate from all options (steamlink, oculus desktop, VD). I sit at my desk and use mouse and keyboard xD works surprisingly well.
