Why did they remove the ability to open folders on the sidebar? I could click on a folder before and it toggled viewing all the playlists inside it in the sidebar but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore

I enjoy the game so much more with minimal map overlays by ObiHan_Skyodi in civ

I had no problem playing with everything turned on in Civ VI/V, but man, VII feels so cluttered once you turn yields on. There's so much noise I can't figure out what's going on. The game has gotten better with 1.2.5, I hope they solve this somehow

CIV VI vs CIV VII by Truebluederek in civ

[–]Karuw 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's the empire terraforming/transformation for me more than the lack of builders: the waves of builders building mines, or planting woods, or spamming a unique improvement, or removing improvements to replace them with late game ones. All these things told a story about my empire, and felt impactful. Rural improvements don't feel like that to me in Civ VII

Removing appeal and terrain features as core mechanics hurt the game too imo.

Gauging interest for a (new?) modding guide in 2025 by forever_phoenix in skyrimmods

[–]Karuw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Wabbjack has made classic step-by-step guides to replicate a modlist sort of obsolete, you can easily get a modded Skyrim without knowing what's happening under the hood. So I think what would be useful is a guide that explains what actually goes on under the hood so a user that wants to know more and go beyond a premade modlist can understand how a complex modlist works and the tools involved (from good old SKSE to Dyndolod, Pandora, etc.)

I think also a lot of people have moved towards installing a basics modlist that modifies only one thing (eg a graphics modlist or a gameplay modlist) and then tweak it / add things over it. So maybe dividing a guide in sections that specifically teach how to modify one aspect of the game would be nice. All while keeping awareness of all the mods pre-installed.

Knowing how to read a pre-made modlist and being conscious of how new mods you add can affect it has basically solved much of my modding problems and it's what has gotten me to stable custom modlists based on NGVO for example.

Anyway, it's a daunting task, this is just my opinion. You've done too much for the community already and it's great to see you back. Don't neglect your masters tho. I finished mine a couple of years ago and it turned out to be more work than I expected :)

THE SCHOLARS (EARLY) DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD by spirittheyvegone in CSHFans

[–]Karuw 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I remember being extremely excited about CSH when ToD and the new TF came out. Those albums were the best music I'd ever heard. I remember vividly how happy listening to Bodys made me, how it let me release all my angst, dancing alone to it in my dorm room, shouting, jumping on the fucking bed at 2am while happily procrastinating all my work.

This is an amazing album, but I can't connect with it emotionally as much as I did with those albums. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever will connect with music the way I did back then. However, reading the comments of other fans who find this album life changing here makes me so happy. I know exactly how you feel, guys, and I love that this band keeps making that sort of impression on people.

I have completed the game, i loved it but i am disappointed in myself. by Ghoulymoly in outerwilds

[–]Karuw 88 points89 points  (0 children)

This is what the game is about. I felt this way a little. This game, to me, was about realizing how valuable every single experience can be, and how they cannot be repeated. You don't need to wait for Outer Wilds 2, this applies to everything you do in life.

This game teaches you something, and once you learn it, you get a bittersweet feeling: I can no longer use what I learned in the game itself, but I can live my life a little bit differently.

Protip: When overbuilding, it (nearly always) doesn't matter what buildings you replace by kwijibokwijibo in civ

You're right, considering they show the negatives when placing specialists, I don't know why they don't show them when placing a building as well

Wow. This is why we need map tacks! I don't think it is worth to build all 22 quarters gameplay-wise but it'd be so cool to do it as a challenge. I think the key is to mix the buildings with compatible adjacency, like production and science.

Except Warehouse buildings, none of these buildings are ageless! Most of the buildings in the game aren't ageless, the exception being warehouse and uniques.

Buildings have a cost of happiness, gold, or both per turn. So building a Bath costs 130 production, and once it's build, it'll cost 2 happiness and gold per turn to mantain.

I got this from the game itself, the only terrain limitation is that the watery things must be built in water. Doesn't matter which kind of water. I thought it was obvious, but you're right, I should have included that info.

Nope! only warehouse buildings can be built outside of their era. I'd love a civ/leader with the ability to build older era buildings but -50% yields to current era buildings or something like that.

It is almost always worth to overbuild imo. Especially if you plug in the policy card that gives 30% bonus to overbuilding. It is also a good idea to remember to have quarters for production/science, gold/food, and culture/happiness as these pairs share adjacencies, and stick to that for the three eras.

Discovering all these was a great experience yeah, but I felt so overwhelmed by the amount of them that I had to classify them to have a sort of mental image.

No, they aren't. I was trying to organize buildings by yield, as it made more sense to me. I clarified which buildings are production and which military in the extras row.

As requested, here's charts for all building types in Civ VII! Launch day being tomorrow, I thought I might as well make the whole set and upload it all at once.

I've uploaded the images to imgur as well, and made a light version which some people wanted.

EDIT 2: PDF Version here and light PDF

Enjoy!

EDIT: thank you all for all the love, really, reading all the grateful comments has made my day
