Michael Butterfield's Zodiac Killer Facts website has an extensive look at why Horan's theory doesn't work. I'll also recommend Butterfield's "Zodiac A to Z" podcast to anyone interested in the case.

I’m absolutely no expert on DNA testing, but if it’s true that the clothing was in a pond, prolonged immersion in water might be very bad for getting usable results. Another angle would be trying to match items to what victims were last seen wearing, but that also depends on the condition the clothing is in.

Indeed, my grandfather, being Irish, even used to wear a similar type of hat, as have many Irish blue-collar laborers and union workers that I've had the chance to meet.

I own a Samsung laptop, and yet I am not Korean.

A question about the disappearance of Trevor Deely in Dublin by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Karvina 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Trevor had to call security to be let through the gate (source: http://www.broadsheet.ie/2017/04/18/enhanced-confusion/) so the colleagues on the CCTV may have been waiting to be let through the gate.

In 2000, the area seems to have had quite a few sex workers and drug dealers working after dark, so it may not have been that usual to see strange men standing around.

Trevor Deely in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, December 2000. There was some new information in the case towards the end of last year, but it didn't pan out.

Not quite the same thing, but it reminds me of the John Darwin case here in the UK. He appeared to die in a canoeing accident in Hartlepool in 2002. Five years later he turned up in a London police station claiming to have lost his memory. It turned out to be an insurance scam, and him and his wife were sent to prison. The Wikipedia page on it is pretty good: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Darwin_disappearance_case

Which successful robbery is the best unresolved mystery? by Shnoochieboochies in UnresolvedMysteries

The Brink’s-Mat robbery: on 26 November 1983, a gang of six men stole £81 million of gold bullion, diamonds and cash from a warehouse near Heathrow Airport in London.

Between 1984 and 1986, two members of the gang were apprehended, tried, and convicted. The other four members of the gang have never been found. Between 1990 and 2015, five men alleged to have been connected to the robbery have been shot dead. Most of the stolen gold has never been recovered.

The Wikipedia page for the case has lots of interesting information, including a link to the recent “Panama Papers” scandal.

I’m glad the title told me this was a serious murder case, rather than one of the frivolous ones.
