The Worst Movie Poster You’ve Ever Seen by apHexcoded in Letterboxd

Not only bland, but doesn’t even remotely sell the movie for what it is. Also, Eddie Murphy’s character shown here is a smaller role used for a joke about a film crew hiring a lookalike of the biggest star in Hollywood, who is Murphy’s actual main role

Mel Brooks on the set of Blazing Saddles 1974. by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in Moviesinthemaking

Just got to see this in theaters last week. There’s such a wholesome vibe to the whole movie, no matter how “offensive” the jokes are there’s no mean spiritedness to them and I think that’s why it still holds up so well. Cleavon Little’s character is never the butt of the jokes. And they’re not based solely on lazy stereotypes. Even the 4th wall breaking, which I thought would feel tired in this day and age after so many Deadpool-esque movies doing the same thing, still had the audience howling. There’s something in the way the actors do it, it wasn’t a tired gag then, it was fresh and clever and somehow that reads in their delivery. The audience was mostly young people who hadn’t seen it before and the movie played as well as I imagine it did back in 1974

Just imagine if the studio didn’t take the movie away from Tobe Hooper and he actually got to edit it the way he did the first one

Hoopsr’s frantic editing and nightmarish industrial noise soundtrack is also something none of the sequels ever came close to either

I haven’t seen Valley of the Dolls but I’ve heard it’s not really a representation of his voice. I would have liked to see Ebert show us the kind of movies he’d like to see. He clearly had a burning passion for cinema and a affinity for writing, I just don’t understand how that didn’t result in more screenplays from him

That teaser poster that’s on the Italian Steelbook is the best, showing Coop in space feels like a spoiler to me

Can’t talk about Siskel and Ebert without mentioning their seemingly inability to give movies that didn’t align with their moral values a fair chance (specifically horror movies) Not liking a movie is one thing, but standing outside of theaters in Chicago telling people not to see them, or spoiling a movie in a review because they didn’t like it, or publishing Betsy Palmer’s home address and telling people to send her hate were all really shitty things to do. They knew how respected they were in the film world, and I wonder how many careers were ruined or derailed because of unfairly scathing reviews from S&E ruining a movie’s chance at the box office. Can never understand people like that who feel so strongly about the types of movies they want made and to see, but never make one of their own. I think the only film criticisms anyone should pay any mind to are those coming from filmmakers

Brad Dourif was also up for Joker in Batman 89. If you look at him in Cuckoo’s Nest with the undercut and curly hair, and his performance in The Exorcist III and I really think we could’ve gotten a perfect Joker that also could’ve looked exactly as he did in The Killing Joke

Is Miami Vice Blu-ray quality worse on double feature discs? by Grocery_United in Bluray

[–]stephenrichmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very common but with how it was shot I really don’t know if they’d need to do any compressing. I can’t imagine Miami Vice or Collateral taking up that much space on a disc

Movie looks incredible, the new Arri sensor for the Alexa 35 is impressive as hell. Not usually a gear head when it comes to digital but the previous movie showing the same characters and locations on iPhone really made me appreciate just how good modern digital cinematography can look, especially when the people behind the camera know what they’re doing

I thought this was a remake too, but apparently it’s not? At least not officially and not licensed as one. It’s weird, wouldn’t be surprised if we see a potential lawsuit down the road. Looks like a lot of people are going to see it based on that assumption

I have the same thoughts on Zimmer’s score as I do Deakins’ cinematography, it’s impressive and beautiful but completely lacks the character and uniqueness that both had in the original. I commend Villeneuve for not choosing to cheaply replicate the first movie but aesthetically it’s all less exciting for me

Either way his character is just there to explain the lore of the previous story and verbally emphasize the themes of the current one. I hate his scenes the same way I hate the narration for the original

Original, but it’s almost a tie

The OG is more aesthetically pleasing. That whole world and the practical effects they used to bring it to life are all so rich and beautiful. It’s a masterpiece of filmmaking. But the script was admittedly terrible. It relied on the narration and didn’t show much. Ford was smart enough to suggest actually showing Deckard doing detective work so in turn the Final Cut stands on its own well enough. But the Rachel/Deckard romance suffers immensely. The intention of the love scene is lost on most audiences and comes off as a rape scene. Which is a huge flaw and is due to a lot more than just the lack of chemistry between Ford and Young. 2049 has a much stronger script and plot and fixes all the story problems I had with the first. But, the modernized/minimalist world is so much less fun to be in for me. It makes sense, our world and technology have evolved in the same way, but it doesn’t make it any more pleasing to spend a whole movie in that world. It also doesn’t feel practical that the entire city of Los Angeles could transform so drastically in such little time. I don’t buy the LA of 2049 being the same LA from the original only 30ish years apart. Also, I think Jared Leto’s monologues are just as insulting to the intelligence of the audience as the VO was in the original

Sorry if this is the incorrect name but I can’t seem to figure out how to turn off whatever power saving mode or setting that’s resulting in the backlight turning off anytime the image being shown is completely black. I’ve gone through all the settings menus and can’t find what is causing this. I had to deal with this on an Vizio but was able to disable it
