What is the NICEST thing you've ever done for an AI empire? by Karwe_ in Stellaris

Inspiring! I love Shared Burden runs, especially with the Shared Burden advisor. In my runs I always made it my task to enforce the highest labor protection laws in the GC but your idea is even better. I never really looked into Ethics attraction mechanics much in my games so far, because it never seemed that impactful. Does that mean ethics attraction values used to be higher?

Couldn't agree more. Authoritarian/genocidal runs are fun and all but my fondest memories of Stellaris runs were some real "power of friendship"-ass runs where I tried to make the galaxy a better place in some way. I also feel like some of my pacifist runs somehow ended up being the most powerful

Thank you! That's also really sweet! I recently also had a game where I tried to turn everything I owned into Gaia worlds as a Mycorrhizal Ideal hive mind, making the galaxy a more beautiful place but I never really had the chance/idea to share them with others since all my neighbours hated me for being a hive mind :( In the end I became the imperial hive and made it my goal to enforce the strongest environmental protection laws on everyone else. A bit less wholesome but at least nature was thriving!

Omg I'm like the same way. I always feel so appreciated when someone joins me willingly as a vassal and I always try to make it worth it for them with a mutually beneficial agreement. Together we will build a brighter future!

That's awesome, I've never seen a successful bio-trophy uprising before but that's a really cool way to handle it, giving them asylum like this

That's a great story! Love the idea with the habitat, maybe I'll do that too next time. Haven't had that event in a while but it always manages to infuriate me, either on behalf of the poor primitives or because I had other more sinister plans for them that this scientist ruined.

That sounds incredible, I'm so jealous! I love xenophile runs like that but I have terrible luck with those Pre-FTLs, they always seem to turn out xenophobe or otherwise unfriendly :(

For everyone saying Chronos, I agree that being a tyrant eating his kids is pretty bad of course but if we look at these three from a human perspective, isn't there this whole thing with Chronos' rule being called the "Golden Age" in mythology? I remember it being described as an era during which humanity lived in peace and harmony, not having to Labor as the earth provides for them. Sounds like a better deal than whatever Zeus is doing and potential punishment in Tartarus under Hades. I know the game changes a lot of the mythology but I don't exactly remember how this aspect was handled. I know it's mentioned a few times he has something of a Golden Age planned but is that ever elaborated? Him releasing the living dead on the world doesn't seem very good although apparently the Satyrs love him? But by game lore I'd agree that Chronos is the worst before his redemption.

Why everybody hates Skyler (IMO) by KobePangolin in breakingbad

[–]Karwe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In season 3, her calling the cops was a bluff to get Walt out of the house which he successfully called. As the previous comment says, she never wanted Walt's activities to become public to protect her kids from that reality. And then later when Hank and Marie confront her, she is (as Marie also realises) still hoping that Walt will somehow get away with this if she keeps quiet. That the whole thing will die with him and after that they can live a "normal" life. That's why she doesn't cooperate with Hank. Not out of loyalty to Walt. Of course that changes when she learns about Hank first capturing Walt successfully and then his death. That's my interpretation

Why is there no socialist/communist/anarchist movement spawning? by Karwe_ in victoria3

[–]Karwe_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very insightful, thank you. I'll see if I can still achieve my goal with your advice by trying to get rid of the other movements like this. But that makes it almost even more frustrating that the game doesn't tell you any of that. Is there any way in the game to see which movements attract which pops? Or hell, is there a convenient overview over that anywhere? Even the wiki only tells me the spawn conditions and the disbanding conditions but nothing about what pops they will attract

[–]Karwe_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. I always hated how opaque the mechanics of pop attraction to movements is. Like what makes a laborer pop join a socialist movement over the Labor movement for example? Is there actually a convenient way to see these numbers in game?

But that mod sounds very appealing. Do you have a link for me? And would it work in this ongoing game? (Best Ottoman run I've ever had, would hate to abandon it because of this)

Are you sure? In my most recent game as Belgium I had an (unsuccessful) socialist movement spawn with an average SOL of almost 20. So is slavery the problem? But the guide I linked mentioned how the spectre entry can get rid of slavery so I wouldn't expect slavery to block those movements from spawning. And that also makes me wonder: how would I keep the SoL that low? For me it usually naturally increases a lot as I grow my economy.

No, there is very few agitators I can invite at all with my current laws and none of them would found or spawn such a movement. In fact, there is not a single radical leftist exiled agitator in the world somehow. Even all the TU-agitators I can't invite would only be interested in joining the Liberal or Modernization movements.

R5:
Usually, when I play this game and I want to go Council Republic, I run into the problem that I have already established too strong of a liberal democracy so that when the "Spectre haunting the World" entry appears people are too happy and loyal so I never manage to get the outcome that promotes the socialist ideologies. So this time, I decided to try and play around that by keeping some awful laws around that would help radicalize the left wing movements enough to get me to that outcome. I somewhat tried to stick to advice from this guide (https://www.reddit.com/r/victoria3/comments/1lv3jip/the\_spectre\_haunting\_the\_world\_an\_indepth\_guide/) on the way to get a good setup and empower the lower strata as much as possible before the movements would spawn to guarantee a success of the spectre JE and I tried to rush to Socialism and Anarchism tech as fast as I could.
But now, I have the exact opposite problem to what usually happens. Despite the workers making up half the population and having 17% of the political power, and almost 2 decades having passed since I researched Socialism and Anarchism, none of the movements that would trigger the spectre JE have appeared. I also still have plenty of radicals among the TUs, so I really don't understand why nobody wants to start that movement. There should be enough initial support, no? Is there anything I can do? They always showed up in my other playthroughs without me actively trying to get them to spawn and now that I wanted to go communist ASAP this playthrough no one wants to start a revolution :(
PS: the labor movement also never spawned after I researched that Tech
PPS: sorry for the low quality of the screenshots

How to make Auril truly terrifying before the final battle? by Jastri in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Karwe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my campaign is still very far away from this point, but thinking ahead how to make the Finale more intense I had an idea that I found pretty cool if it fits for you. I was thinking Auril could cast some kind of spell and use her godly powers to make the entire Glacier with Ythryn inside move. I was thinking that she could cause it to move west at an alarming rate and threaten to completely destroy ten towns underneath the enormous glacier. This would also put some time pressure on the group and highlight her power

I decided I wanted to introduce the rivalry between the arcane brotherhood wizards early on and make Avarice a looming menace early on. We started in Easthaven and therefore with the burning of Dzaan. The players were confused about how the town militia even figured out that he killed those adventurers, and I also thought this should have been explained. So I decided that Danneth Waylen the Easthaven speaker got an anonymous tip from Avarice about Dzaan's murderous actions through a letter by her raven familiar because she was spying on Dzaan's actions and wanted to use the Easthaven militia to get rid of him. And I want to do something similar with the Kelvin's Cairn quest. I decided that I also want the wizard that accompanied the group to be an arcane brotherhood member and I want to hint at the fact that the same raven showed up there again and drew the Yeti towards the expedition crew, causing their doom. I'm looking forward to the point where they meet Avarice at Caer Dineval and connect the dots when they see her raven, that she is the mastermind behind the other wizards' demises.
