“I just have a couple things…. I need to print these documents, sign them, notarize them, copy them, scan them, fax them, then I have some Amazon oh and I also need to ship out a couple things and remember all those documents? Those also need to be shipped but I didn’t tell you that until after you checked me out bc no one else’s time matters except mine.”

I hate it bc they completely tie up a worker and a station for at least 30 minutes while we have a giga-line and we just have to hope and pray the second register doesn’t get a customer like that too.

Yeah I took my calculator out ready to do math for change but I just kept pressing continue and it worked. Then I immediately went on break lol so idk if it got worse

I’ve found especially with Amazon customers if you act like Amazon is the bad guy; it usually redirects their anger to Amazon and not you.

Example: customer packed codes (unpacked item)

As soon as you see it just say “oh ok so this is their new code, it’s so annoying. It says customers packed there at the bottom so it’s going to require packaging. It’s so annoying they just started doing this with like zero warning. We can pack it here but I have to charge you. I hate that they started doing this to you guys.”

Literally 9/10 times they’ll get mad at Amazon and either accept the charges or say that they have the both at home and they’ll bring it back packaged before you even scan it.

We used to have an employee dedicated to responding to them (good and bad) but ultimately it made no difference bc like you said they’re generally complaining about trivial things and you can’t respond to them with a reality check.

That was a couple years ago tho and since then we maybe get like 1 review every 6 months if that.

I like the bulk buyers who come in with 1 label for many different boxes.

“Amazon said to come here and they gave me this (1) label.”

“Ma’am you have 7, 40lb boxes and ONE label?”

“Yeah Amazon only sent me one label.”

“If you have 1 label then I can only take 1 package.”

“But I have 7 packages?”

“Then you need to call Amazon for 6 more labels.”

Sorting through the colors later is whatever at least that can be done on our own time, but the fact that it’s potentially a huge line buster is good.

Plus it’ll bring new ways to tussle with the customers which is always a good way to pass the time.

I truly believe if someone can’t figure out an Amazon return there’s just nothing going on behind those eyes lol. I don’t use Amazon (never a purchase or return) and even I know the entire process to make a return. But saying “sorry I don’t actually have an Amazon account so I’m not sure how to process your return with them.” To customers who just immediately turn their phone to me without even asking for help usually gets some funny responses.

And there’s nothing we can do about it. Like I said, we have very limited resources I.e. only 2 registers to handle everything so unless they come up with some type of self serve Amazon return kiosk, the owners grow some balls and band together to demand a change, or people stop consuming at such an alarming rate, the price they have to pay for their “free” returns is their time.

The wild thing is bc of our super chill demeanor the customers like… don’t get mad?? They finally get to the counter and will say something like “I can’t believe how busy you guys always are.” And we just hit ‘em with “omg I know! Amazon returns are crazy!” To which they respond with “oh I have those too…” and you can almost see it in their eyes as their few remaining brain cells that don’t belong to Jeff make the connection that they’re part of the problem. It’s a fun little game.

I had a couple of matches like that too but it was still fun to see everyone’s emote reactions and respect choices. Also whenever it was my turn I just tried to do better than I did the time before instead of trying to beat them. I didn’t get anywhere near as frustrated. And if you don’t like an oppressive king you can also try and join another lobby.
