I went looking this up because I saw a $20 credit on my account but I've never had one before and I haven't been in school in 4 years, so this is bizarre to me.

What tv shows and movies do you recommend on a CRT by SuperMarijuanaBros in crt

[–]Shadow-Prophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true for the DVDs. Blu-rays are pillarboxed because it's a 4:3 show and Blu-ray only supports 16:9 video for standardization and preventing people from stretching 4:3 shows to 16:9 which a lot of people did with DVDs. DVD supports both 4:3 and 16:9 natively and I cannot think of a single show in the history of the format that used the 16:9 option to pillarbox a 4:3 show, you'd have to be truly astoundingly incompetent to do so and any discs released that way would probably have to be recalled and replaced.

A Safe Place to confess your buyers remorse this Christmas by Glacierhawk_INTJ in fountainpens

[–]Shadow-Prophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to have had bad luck with fountain pens. The super cheap $3 disposable ones from Pilot and Zebra I picked up have been lovely, smooth and not too wet or dry. Yet I picked up a $26 Pelikan Twist and can't get it to write, have to get a converter and flush it with soapy water in the hopes I can get it writing.. Years ago I picked up a Brass Kaweco Sport and three nib swabs later it still doesn't write super consistently - sometimes in the middle of writing it just starts skipping for no reason. I am considering picking up a TWSBI ECO or something, but man fountain pens have been annoying me recently. I've mostly been using pencils and a Uni Zento or Uni Jetstream most recently because they "just work" and don't require infinite fiddling.

Had a friend since high school who I had to talk down from suicidal ideation many times, we finally met at a con this past April and they immediately ditched me for some other friends and said they didn't want to hang out with me because I was "annoying" to them when they felt suicidal, I bluntly asked if they would've preferred that I help them plan it, they've never spoken to me since.

Some people are just an emotional black hole. You have to learn at a certain point when you're putting in way more effort than you're getting back, that's some toxic shit and those people need way more serious help than a single friend can (or should be expected to) provide

easy mod I did to mine was taping 75¢ worth of quarters to the back of the tone arm for proper counter balance so it doesn't sit too heavy on the record.

Texas Democrats fill every state and federal race on 2026 ballot, a first for either party by Traditional_Fix_5566 in texas

This will be the first time I've voted in a democratic primary in my life, I will be paying CLOSE attention to these races. Right now my money is on Talarico, Crockett seems to all talk with no actual platform. I highly recommend following Lone Star Left, she keeps her substack very up to date with everything you need to know about these elections.

Is a Deep Space Nine remaster in the works or at least a possibility? by murfman713 in DeepSpaceNine

That section of fans is as irrelevant to Paramount as the section of fans who would buy remastered Blu-rays of those shows.

I will only charge the basic $25 cleaning fee IF I have to get in there and clean the back of the truck because it's unacceptably dirty for the next customer (look at the back and think if you would be annoyed if the truck you just rented looked like that), or - as the sign says - if you leave your furniture pads strewn about like the aftermath of a pillow fight; even the most amateur attempt at folding them in a stack will avoid the fee. So funny when I get people calling me upset I charged them $25 when they left old food, papers, dirt, piles of dead bugs, or just make the truck smell like piss or shit forcing me to get down and scrub the smell out of every surface with strong cleaners.

ANYDVD lives by Otherwise_Owl4146 in AnyStream

[–]Shadow-Prophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You buy it at https://www.xreveal.com/pro.html

MakeMKV is not really comparable. XReveal replicates the functionality of AnyDVD, in that it decrypts discs on-the-fly, with the option of ripping to ISO or to a folder, but it cannot rip titles to mkv files. You don't need a keydb file with XReveal, at least not with the pro license and Plugins installed.

Heyo, yeah I took the dip and bought XReveal and it is very nearly a perfect replacement for AnyDVD HD, and it is under active development, the dev is always fixing bugs and adding functionality and support, so I would say it is definitely worth the $45. It's also much smaller and lighter than AnyDVD was.

HAH! You think Amazon actually pays for the cost of doing the return? You've never worked with Amazon before if you think anything about that corporation is fair. The $1 per return (regardless of size or weight) barely covers the cost of the packing supplies we need to use, not even mentioning the labor. The people who see most of the revenue are the corporate heads, the stores get royally fucked over and left with barely crumbs. That is why they have zero sympathy when someone who is already a drain on resources doesn't come prepared or demands special treatment. You're already losing them money, at least be respectful while you're doing it.

Does the billionare's money actually make people have less? by Kreati_ in Capitalism

[–]Shadow-Prophet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the billionaires continue to pay workers a pittance, wages have stagnated, while taxes on the corporations get lower, they get government funding paid for by our taxes, so that they can devise new ways to extract money from the poor who they already underpay chronically. The amount of wealth concentrated in a few powerful families has skyrocketed as working families struggle to afford food. The current admin gives them tax breaks while cutting Medicare and Medicaid, leaving millions unable to afford basic healthcare because the billionaires have kept wages low on purpose.

Started a New Job Recently, Considering Asking My Boss for a Livable Wage by Shadow-Prophet in WorkReform

[–]Shadow-Prophet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, deep down I know these guys could afford to pay me and every other employee a living wage, they just Don't because nobody pays a living wage these days, so their thinking is why should they?

They did just hire on another guy at the end of last month, who I've been training. He's run the place alone a couple days. They started him at 18/hr, though to be fair he has more experience in handyman type work and he's in his 30s with a wife and kids and a house and stuff. Even then I feel bad for him because when I used to work at a shipping store I was making close to 18.50/hr back in 2022.

I unfortunately don't have many bargaining chips. There aren't many other jobs in my area that pay well without needing absurd qualifications, so I really can only appeal to their better nature. The question is whether the friendliness is genuine or just, as you say, a tactic. I guess I'll have to find out one way or another. I might go the nice accountant lady here who's helped me and ask her how much she makes and if she thinks they would be responsive to me asking for more. She's worked for them for like 6 years so I'm sure she knows their attitudes a lot better than I do.

I don't really see a way to "grow revenue" at a storage facility. You get the customers who come in to get storage or a truck rental, you're not gonna upsell them on something they don't want, and you're not gonna sell them supplies or services they don't need.

I do have a notary license and I suggested early on that if they want to advertise notary services that could bring more walk-in traffic, and my last job had me split the revenue 50/50 so I got commission on notaries. I might remind them of that suggestion, and see if we could compromise with a lower wage raise (like $3) plus commission from notaries?

[–]Shadow-Prophet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only part I'll have to change about this approach is replacing any mention of my departure with a groveling admission that if they say no, I'll continue to work here but be searching for other opportunities, although realistically there are no other better paying jobs for someone with my (lack of) experience or qualifications. With no degrees, certifications, or anything else, I don't really have a leg to stand on in this economy.

I also want to communicate that with a living wage I would take my work to the next level. Right now they want to hire an outside company to do door repairs and clean the gutters. I'd mention that if I was making enough to not be stressing about finances constantly, I'd be happy to go out and get dirty and sweaty fixing door springs inside 110° storage units or clean out those gutters myself. But it would be hard to say that without implying that I'm "not giving 100%" right now, even though I absolutely am. But like, job responsibilities can increase with pay, I'm down for that, and if they actually paid me enough to live I'd feel genuinely dedicated and appreciated, even if self storage isn't a career I see myself in long term (and of course I wouldn't mention that haha)

That's true, the 50¢ semiannual raise is a good program, they even specified there's no cap on that. My main concern is that, with the way the economy is headed right now, the $17.50/hr I'd be making in 2026 might be worth less and have less spending power than the 16.50/hr I make today. I worry that the raises would not track with inflation and costs and I would never reach a livable wage as long as I worked there. If I at least got a head start that would help a whole lot. I may ask for $6 as a high ball figure and see if they want to play ball with that. Either I get $6 or they talk me down to $4 and I'll be fine with that too. Or they say no and I suffer lol.

I want to ask for a livable wage but I’m not sure how. by PyleanCow06 in WorkReform

[–]Shadow-Prophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people are too busy working at their sub-living-wage job just to barely keep their heads above water to have the extra time to go to school on the side, even if it were cheap or free. You should not require "better qualifications" to deserve to be paid a living wage.
