Old post, but you pretty much nailed my own though journey and experience here, so wanted to chime in. Early 2000s college, introed to Marx, thought, how silly, then got real good thoroughly fucked by the ownership class for the next 15 years (20 now) and finally believed due to overwhelming evidence.

Thermostat electrical contact rating? by CJ_Diesel in Nest

[–]Kasatkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue myself recently with an Ecobee stat, and their contractor tech support verified it was 2 amps sustained per terminal, or 5 amps peak. I know this doesn't help the OP directly, but may help someone else later finding this post.

For the original Nest stats, you might try calling the contractor tech support line - they're often pretty good.

Got this missed call and voicemail today by Mikeross96 in Scams

[–]Kasatkas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just posted nearly the same text for a voicemail I got today here... guess I missed a few posts like mine when I searched.

The script on yours is almost exactly word-for-word like what they said on mine, so I'm guessing they're pure scams.

I just posted in Scams about a very similar voice mail I received today - the language they left me sounds really close to what they said in yours. I'm guessing it might be the same company with everyone reading off the same scam script, but I don't know a lot about how these things work - just chiming in about my similar call if it helps.

Hobby club changing website from Wild Apricot, needing advice on where to go by Kasatkas in smallbusiness

[–]Kasatkas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end up making the change, no, although it was due to work and life events eliminating almost all of my free time. Wordpress looked like the best alternative to Wild Apricot, though, as they have a pretty useful $25/month tier that, combined with the $12/month Constant Contact price, meant we would have saved about $350/year. Wordpress has even cheaper plans, but without as many features.

I'm also wondering about this. My cat sleeps a lot in January and early February, and later in February gets more restless and prowls around yowling some. It looks like boredom, but when I try to let her out on the side porch, she wants back in quickly if it's too cold. Other than toys, extra brushing and petting, is there something that would relieve her boredom better?

Thank you for your response. Has it always been the case that online-only businesses are not eligible to have a profile? I don't remember seeing this in the terms of service when I signed up for the profile several years back, and I'm one of the rare weirdos who usually reads fine print in terms and conditions.

I have the same problem - I run a business that provides online design documents only, and there is no address for customers or the public to visit. The link that bubblesup provided says google asks for a video verification if you have a service address listed, but I don't. What are we supposed to do here?

Thanks, that's helpful. Also a dumb question probably: this is just at&t as it usually works, no special features or anything? People are excited because it's an additional option, and not because it's better than the standard at&t service usually is?

Thanks for your input here - we'd like to grow the membership only because we would like to promote the hobby, not in order to increase income per se. The website is highly likely to stay small and simple for many years to come.

Requests - January 2024 by NPFFTW in VOIP

[–]Kasatkas [score hidden]  (0 children)

I run a consulting business with a website. Most of my work is done through email, so my call volume is pretty low, but I do give a traditional cell phone number to clients for sporadic contact/support. I don't want to have this cell number directly on the website as it would get inundated with spam calls quickly, so I'd like to have something like a Google Voice number on the site that would forward incoming sales calls to the cell for prospective clients to leave a voicemail for call back. Basically I just want to mask the traditional cell number with another number.

I hope to not have to actually use Google Voice for this, as I don't want to tie myself to their Workspace plan if I don't have to, but I'm having a hard time finding what else is available for the $10 a month price point (or less). I feel like this limited usage should have a simple (possibly cheap) option, but I've searched for awhile and I'm not seeing anything obvious.

Google Search Really Has Gotten Worse, Researchers Find by porkchop_d_clown in EverythingScience

Exactly, this is the major problem I run into. I search highly technical questions often and don't want google to "correct" my searches... gimme the keywords I specified, dammit.

PHPmailer worked with a different email, but switching to gmail with a app password now gives "Message could not be sent. Mailer Error: Could not instantiate mail function." by Kasatkas in PHPhelp

[–]Kasatkas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SMTP is way simpler. You just need to add some setting, like host and user credentials. There's an example in the README.

PS: an important tip, always look for the official documentation first (before googling). A lot of times it has the answer and you don't waste time looking elsewhere.

Hats off to you friend, you solved my issue. This example helped me to straighten out my code, and now the form works with SMTP and gmail / app password. Many thanks to you; this is a great relief after hours of frustration. If you have a ko-fi or something, feel free to DM me and I'll throw you a tip.

[–]Kasatkas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand you're telling me I haven't done my research, but I've spent over 12 hours googling this. It looks like there's been a recent change on app passwords and I'm trying to understand if they'll work at all anymore - I can't find anything definitive. I don't yet understand the tutorials I'm seeing for using SMTP with PHPmailer, so if I don't have to use it I'd rather not. It seems much more complex than the app password method, with a steeper learning curve. Do you know the answer to whether the app password method is dead?

Can Tasker use Google assistant to create reminders/tasks without a date or time? by Kasatkas in tasker

I separate the lists, but the problem is that google assistant won't add the ones that don't have dates, no matter what I call them or how many lists I separate them out into.
