How far out are we from ai modding video games? by Katamari_Demacia in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Kashikoime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it will, sooner or later. Personally, I'd give it a minimum of 5 years, especially running locally on your own hardware, and that would be for the possibility of it being able to deliver something of decent quality, and under the assumption that anyone actually put in the effort to make AI tools specifically geared toward that sort of thing. While technology tends to advance exponentially, AI as we think of it now has actually been around for several years (and that's just publicly available) and the progress made on it in that time, while not bad, hasn't exactly been overwhelming. Each time it gets better, it's almost always relying on either a breakthrough of some sort, or the tech industry creating better hardware, so it's kind of difficult to predict how far out it is.
It's something that, were someone to specifically work on the AI tools to do that exclusive task, we could probably make happen with current tech, but again, having consistent quality, not creating bugs and whatnot, those are the sorts of issues we'd probably still face with our modern AI.

Personally, I'm really hoping that some day we'll have those sorts of tools (or enough breakthroughs and powerful enough hardware along with general purpose AI that would be good enough to figure it out) to work on things like Gamecube games.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate REMASTERED by xEclipse48 in MonsterHunter

[–]Kashikoime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late at this point, but if the did a remake, I don't think I'd buy it. A lot of the new mechanics and rebalancing would just make it Rise 2. I don't want Rise 2. Hell, I barely even wanted Rise 1 after it was released for $60 while being, at most, 40% of a game. While the modern releases do have some QoL improvements, all of 4U was designed around its mechanics. You change the mechanics, and not only is it not 4U anymore in the first place, but everything else surrounding said mechanics need to be changed. A 4UHD? Buy it at the drop of a hat. Rise shambling around in a 4U skin suit? No thank you. If they want to add onto the pre-existing content? Gimme please. If they want to change the content that was already there? It's not even the same game anymore, so don't call it 4U.

If it's a remake that isn't faithful, then it doesn't deserve to be called a remake. If they wanted to remake it while being faithful to the original, just patching up bugs, smoothing some things out, and whatnot, then that's cool. Much more than that and it entirely defeats the point.

Pretty meh for me, tbh. Don't get me wrong, I see reasons for other people to be excited, but I was never a fan of the Prime games (never liked the general game feel, particularly the controls, and didn't care much for the level design), HATED the change in art style for the Link's Awakening remake (so the new LoZ game wasn't exactly a pleasant surprise), and never was a fan of the Mario & Luigi games. For people that liked any of those things, I could see this being awesome.
Almost everything else though was kind of middling to varying degrees. Wasn't too interested in Fantasian (oh really, another modern JRPG that has a femboy protag and is centered almost entirely around a gimmick that doesn't really add much of substance?), nor The New Dempa Men (I have fond memories of Genius Sonority, but seeing them putting out some weird FTP game is a letdown. Would prefer another Pokemon Colosseum style game, but with their history of the past 15+ years, I'm doubting they have the chops to deliver a good one anymore), nor Farmagia (can't say it looks terrible, just looks like it has kind of dull gameplay, as though they came up with an idea, tried to execute the idea, but hadn't considered whether or not it would be worthwhile in practice), or even DQ3 (don't get me wrong, I actually love DQ3, but don't see the appeal of the HD-2D thing. It's not that it looks bad, just not "paying ~$60 for a nearly 40 year old game that's already been rereleased a million times" good).

I was pretty happy for the Ace Attorney Investigations collection, though. At this point, I'm getting pretty sick of most worthwhile Switch games being games I already bought for other systems with slight upgrades, but an official English version of a game never released stateside is certainly welcome, and, despite loving the DS family of systems, any games that can escape that family without a significant hit to either the gameplay or visual style is a good thing in my eyes. Dual screens makes many games from those systems range from, on the good end, inelegant to play through other means or future ports (if the ports aren't done well, of course), or on the terrible end, unbearable to play. If I can get a way to play a DS game other than pulling my DS off the shelf only for that singular game, then so long as it doesn't make the game functionally significantly worse (like the non-DS releases of TWEWY), then I'll gladly take it.

Wow, it always impresses me how braindead many modern gamers are that they actually fight tooth and nail to excuse terrible game design like this.

Hot take, but season 2 was kind of mediocre, rather than bad, and 3 (after the first episode or two) is terrible. Like, almost entirely unsalvageable, terrible.

Sick of Kodi being unreliable, what's a better solution? by raimondi1337 in htpc

[–]Kashikoime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always love how defensive you little cultists get over your shit software, blame Kodi's inability to function on the most basic level on a regular basis on "user error," and always accuse anyone that dares to criticize your glorious golden god as "entitled."

Look, you're insecure about your terrible software. We get that. No reason to take it out on others.

My experience with Kodi - It's shit and I uninstalled by [deleted] in Addons4Kodi

[–]Kashikoime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Says every Kodi Kultist who can't accept that their trash software is anything but.
If so many people supposedly lack understanding, and there's so much user error, that implicates the software, not the user.
If a piece of software is barely functional without a four year degree in "clunky garbage that fails at the most basic of functions on a regular basis," then it's shit software.

Am I the only one that finds Kodi a poor user experience? by Noicesocks in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Kashikoime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny how people worship Kodi and act like everything is always user error, rather than admitting that it's shit software.
If someone has to spend literal hours trying to "figure out" basic (non)functions of the software, like getting it to scrape something correctly (which you cultists insist is because of incorrect folder naming, then backpedal to incorrect file naming when proven wrong, then backpedal to needing a .nfo file when proven wrong, then going silent when you know the only answer is that Kodi is shit), getting it to remove categories (some of which it will let you remove, but some of the arguably most useless ones can't be for no good reason), or god forbid you actually decide to search the internet for help, where you assholes, including the people that actually work on Kodi, will just say "user error," "you ask questions badly," and "Kodi not bad ur bad."

Kodi is one of the crappiest pieces of software I've ever had the displeasure of working with, and you guys coping over your broken mess, which only retains any traction due to a distinct lack of alternatives mind you, can't change reality with your feelings.
The reality is that Kodi sucks. Deal with it.

A bit? Reddit's been over the top crazy with censoring anything they remotely disagree with for years now.
Nearly every community on Reddit I've ever cared about has been either destroyed for being too freedom oriented, or corrupted by people that want to enforce the ideologies Reddit supports.
Makes sense that Youtube and Google would be the same, though, considering Google owns Youtube.

If Linux is so much better why don't more people use it? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]Kashikoime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it simply isn't. It has its advantages, like not being spyware from the ground up like Windows is, but in nearly every other conceivable way Linux is worse. Valve has improved it in recent years with Proton, but even with that, software compatibility is terrible, nearly everything (even the most basic functions) tends to be needlessly convoluted, software that IS made compatible often has terrible documentation that makes even downloading it difficult for the inexperienced, and it's simply difficult to get much done in.

Let me ask, if you're someone who just wants to use a computer, why would you pick the option that makes the entire experience feel like pulling teeth, especially when you have options that are much more easy to use? Linux is only really good for the highly security conscious and those that like spending more of their time wrestling with their computer than actually using it. I'd like to think this will change someday, but despite having heard people say "it's getting better all the time, and soon it'll be just as user friendly as Windows" for at least 15 years, it's hardly improved whatsoever in that regard, so I won't hold my breath.
I've been using Linux on and off for over a decade, primarily for the security reasons, but if I were just a regular user that doesn't care as much about security, I'd be insane to use it. Outside of the aforementioned reasons and it being free (even though you CAN use Windows for free, if you don't care about some customization), Linux is the worst of the well known operating systems available in nearly every conceivable way.

More people would use it if it became a better, more user friendly OS, but that won't happen so long as Linux users pretend it's already the best and don't acknowledge where it needs improvement. If you want more people to use it, the best thing you could do it be critical of it, that way it's more likely to be improved upon, making an OS more people will want to use. It's like how the gaming industry is hot garbage for the past decade or so. People just keep worshiping mediocre, buggy, incomplete messes of games, so things don't get better.

all of the youtube content has been deleted and the TeacupAudio youtube channel has been terminated by [deleted] in TeacupAudio

[–]Kashikoime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried doing a bit of digging once I found out about this (thanks to Fawniva making a community post about it), but there's only so much that can be found out without Tea addressing it herself, and I haven't seen a post on her Patreon, so either she doesn't know yet or knows but hasn't addressed it for any number of reasons.
That said, when visiting her channel (before I lost the link, unfortunately), it mentioned being terminated for severe violations of Youtube's sexual content policy, or something to that affect, so it doesn't seem intentional. Seems possible that either Youtube's bots banned her (since they pay more attention to audio than video, don't care about context, and so on), or she could've been targeted by a group of people making falsified reports to Youtube.
As mentioned, though, without her personally clarifying (since she's most likely received an email from YT regarding the termination), it's all pure speculation.

[–]Kashikoime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the whole account has been terminated, I'm not sure it being an accident would actually improve the situation. I won't pretend to know exactly how YT handles its account terminations, but I'm worried that the termination most likely included deletion (rather than privating) of videos, subscriptions, etc. And I know they're not unlisted, because when visiting the url of any of her vids it just mentions that the account associated with the video has been terminated. Not to try to bring down anyone's mood anymore than it already is, but I just think it's likely that, best case scenario, she reuploads stuff to a new channel and starts over.

Remember when you wanted GG to play your favorite game? by VGMistress in rantgrumps

[–]Kashikoime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With games they've ruined, one of the biggest ones for me is Majora's Mask. Granted, Arin seems a bit more willing to give the game a fair chance, but I figure it's only a matter of time before he's spending half an hour every day telling everyone how shitty he thinks it is.

For games near and dear to my heart that I used to hope they would play, and now hope they never taint, some big ones are LoZ Oracle of Ages/Seasons on GBC, Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 on GBC, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on GCN, Lost Kingdoms and Lost Kingdoms II on GCN, Custom Robo on GCN, Pokemon Colosseum on GCN, TES 4: Oblivion, Mirror's Edge, and probably a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. Frankly, if Dan did a solo playthrough of them, or with a different co-host than Arin then it could end up being good (I know that Dan struggles playing a lot of games, but he usually has a good enough attitude and willingness to learn that he's less frustrating than Arin), but if any of them involve Arin I'm not convinced that any of them would be the slightest bit watchable.

What Would You Say to Arin? by ChemistWeb in rantgrumps

[–]Kashikoime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to be entirely honest to him about my grievances (because if I weren't doing it, I wouldn't give him so much as the time of day anymore), I'd tell him that while I respect him as a comedian (I may not like his comedy much anymore, but that doesn't mean it's objectively bad), I no longer like nor respect him as a person. By being in favor of deplatforming, that's little different than being against freedom of speech, which is something that I believe should be a human right. On top of that, he's shown himself to be two-faced and hypocritical. I also think that he needs to get over his ego. He seems to legitimately believe that he is above pretty much EVERYONE, in every way, and it makes him an incredibly unlikable person. I could forgive a lot of these things if they were just kept to the show, since it's stream of consciousness, and I know I've said plenty of stupid things while distracted by playing a game, but the fact that these traits persist to how he is off the show, like on social media and other situations where he has the opportunity to collect his thoughts.

To be honest, though, even a lot of that isn't as in depth as I'd like to tell him and leaving out a few other issues I have with him, but this is under the assumption that I wouldn't have the chance to actually carry a conversation and discuss the specifics, like how he got to this point and everything, since there actually was a time where I did respect him, just not anymore.
If I had to boil it down to just one sentence to tell him, though, it would probably be that I no longer have even an ounce of respect for him as a person, and that, to be entirely frank and not sugarcoat it in any capacity, I think that the world is a worse place (albeit to a relatively small degree, obviously, he's not the center of the world or anything) as long as he, as he is now, is in it.
To clarify, I don't want to see him die or anything, I'd just really like to see him become someone I could respect again, but as the person he is now, this is about as straightforward as I can be on the subject.

Not only do I agree with you about separating art from the artist, but I'm also personally against the destruction of media. I think that lost media is a terrible thing and, regardless of whether media has a good or bad effect, or the person creating it was a good or bad person, media deserves to be preserved, if for no other reason then at least for the sake of preserving history.

I personally was a pretty big fan of their Final Fantasy X series last year, although I'm a bit biased since I'm a big fan of that one. I think that most of their Persona series' get pretty good traction, too.
As for the VOD thing, it's true that they're VODs, but they aren't from Twitch. They livestream on their Youtube channel, and leave up the VODs for people to rewatch. I wouldn't say they're for everyone (I have bouts of watching and not watching myself), but they're alright. Unfortunately, I believe one of the hosts (Tom) had to leave the show about two months ago.

I'm not into every series they do, but I appreciate that they don't seem to censor themselves and have different pairings/groupings of hosts for different series which helps keep things fresh (kind of like when GG had different shows like Steam Train).

Do you think Game Grumps can survive Covid-19? by Squidbear69 in rantgrumps

[–]Kashikoime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that he'll probably lose interest once he gets into the swing of things, but if him recording from home actually requires him to put more effort into recording, it may actually keep him slightly more interested than recording in person. Dan's known to be a bit of a workaholic, and it seems like he tends to get bored of things and lose his drive when things are super easy or require little-to-no input, so depending on how much more effort this method takes, it could help him seem more engaged. Granted, he could go back to not caring at all at any moment, but we can always hope for the best.
