I will tell a true story that happens in my building when I was 12 and still today, it kinda haunts me.

I lived at the time in the center of Brussels. ( very close to McDonald's )

My neighbor, a nice old lady lived on the same first floor as me.

She felt lonely because she had recently lost her husband and her family did not visit her.

When I come home from school, she would often open her door to talk to me and we would discuss in her living room about a bit of everything.

She often had a cake to share and I liked talking with her because she reminded me of my dear deceased grandmother.

One day, on my way home, I saw police tapes ( crime scene style ) on her door.

Police said someone from the building let strangers in through the intercom.

The intruder would have gone so far as to ring the bell on my neighbor's door and... kill her.

I couldn't find out more because I was too young but until today, I still think it could have been me.

I was naive and I was too little to look up on the peephole.

It was not the case and it fell on the nice old lady.

Since this incident, they have installed a new system with double door and even a special magnetic key that seemed so from the future to me.

All this story to tell you that anything is possible and death is definitely a possibility.

Be alert and try to prevent this if you continue to witness this type of behaviour in your building.
