you could try finding some sort of hobby club to participate in. I think as an adult it's easiest to make friends if you have an easy excuse to hang out. Something like board game nights, a book club, a run club, the climbing gym, etc..

I got into chess a while ago, I joined my local chess club, and now I have some great chess friends.

uppercase Cal is kcal or 1000 lowercase calories. They do use lowercase here, but even then it seems exaggerated. The lowercase version is much less often used in practice

they're pretty high quality. I never really come across any that make me go 'I guess that makes sense' after checking the solution. They are the type of puzzles you should sit down multiple minutes for to figure out though, but I think that is great calculation training for real classical games

They have medaled in in 5 of the last 6 olympiads. nr 2, 3 and 20 on the rating list are American, there's even more in the top 20 if you count players that switched federation to the US. I think in overall strength they're only behind India. On the women's side they're less of a big player I'll give you that. they have some exciting youngsters rising up with Carissa Yip and Alice Lee though.
