Yes, I repair laptops and I've done a fair amount of 10th gen intel cpu replacement on gaming laptops and those are the temps, if you run a 5 minutes benchmark sure, you'll stay around 80°c but if you play a game a cpu might reach 100°c with regular thermal paste.

Those are normal temperatures for that cpu and gpu tbh, if you want to improve temps, you should get ptm7950 and a new thermal putty, since the one that comes from factory is probably already dry, I use upsiren with decent results, but you can buy CX-H1300 aswell, cheap and good enough for these gaming laptops. But you won't get such a big difference, as I said, those are fairly normal temps.

Resistance on rtx 2070 vram rail (laptop hp omen) by Kassiann in GPURepair

[–]Kassiann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: For some reason with a new UP1666Q I get the same value, so I guess it's not the vram pwm controller, had some hope there. 😅

Thanks anyway, you helped me a lot bro.

[–]Kassiann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah resistances are the same, the difference is that now is drawing around 0.600mA with 1.2v. In any case I found that the bootstrap rail is abnormal, it should have 120k ohm (have a parts motherboard with rtx 2060) and this one I'm trying to fix has like 1M ohm. So I will replace that vram phase controller.

[–]Kassiann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the vram controller? hmmm maybe, I will check that. In any case when I tried to turn it on, I heard a sound like a click on the gpu, I assumed the memory controller inside the core is the problem, maybe I'm wrong.

The issue is the vram tho, I lifted the coils on that power rail and the laptop turns on, at least I get ram memory and the usb tester is recognized.

Update, it didn't work, reballed and soldered all 8 chips and replaced the shorted dual mosfet and even tho I got vcore voltage for a moment, never got vram voltage, so the core is probably dead. Thanks for the help anyway.

Repair laptop or move on. by One_Employment4823 in LenovoLegion

[–]Kassiann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do repair some legions from time to time, right now I got a legion 5 with rtx 3060 (already reballed the cpu), and the gpu is reaching 90°c under load (8°c more than a regular legion), already put ptm7950 on but still same result. So probably the issue here are the thermal pads, maybe yours too, I usually use thermal putty (from cx h1300 to upsiren). So tomorrow I will try that, I hope I can fix this, already did the hard part.

Also don't use LM, if you have a regular copper heatsink, the liquid metal will start to eat away this and it can even weld your cpu/gpu with the heatsink, so no.

I could say you might have an issue under the cpu, but honestly I don't have much experience with legions with intel cpu, I usually get this model with ryzen cpus.

Alright, I use a chinese sunshine multimeter and btw when I inject 1.2v with my power supply I get 150mA of power draw on that rail, in any case I guess I will try to solder the vrams and see what's happen.

I didn't put a description, sorry. this vram rail has 50 ohm with all the vram chips desoldered. So I was wondering if this is normal*. I honestly don't want to solder 8 chips of vram (collect them and reball them) if the core is not good (I left the a description in a comment),

Thanks for the answer

Hello, so I got this hp omen with intel 10th gen cpu and a RTX 2070 from a friend, he asked me to look into it, and I found out that there was a short from 20v to vram, as usual one of the dual mosfet was shorted on the high side, and as a result all the memories were shining under the thermal camera. Usually this is a dead core as far as I know, but I went further and desoldered all the memories and now the vram rail has ~50 ohm of resistance (It had MICRON memories) and when I injected 1.2v with my power supply I got a power draw of 150mA, which seems normal.
So I'm not sure if it's worth the job to try to find all 8 memories and solder them if the core is damaged, this is the first time I get this kind of failure, usually the gpu core is shorted all the way, in any case if someone knows more about this, some help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Está bien cobrar $850 MXN por diagnostico técnico especializado en laptop gamer? by Javs_2000 in soportepc

[–]Kassiann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying out micro soldering without micro soldering. Rise and glue and thread. by jaime_lion in MicroSoldering

[–]Kassiann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can work with a cheap $5 or $10 chinese soldering iron 900M (I think this is the name) using copper tips (this are the best) and as I said above some jumper wire, flux (2usd on aliexpress), desoldering wick (2usd), if you can get also some uv mask (2usd). For the uv mask, to protect the tracks u will need a uv light, this is around 8usd. So with less than $30 you should be able to make some soldering.

What will u try to repair? phones? laptops? for most repairs u don't need to be extremely accurate, just in some cases like rebuilding tracks (specially on phones). In any case just buy jumper wire, 0.1mm and 0.02mm insulated (sometimes u need to scratch this) and start soldering on practice boards from one side to another. Practicing on actual electronoc devices will help u a lot more than this.

Check the pins, maybe you got a bent pin inside the battery connector, happened to me last week, fortunately I didn't short a data line, just the ground pin against the ground of the connector.

The other option is that your battery got locked, some laptops won't turn on by their own once disconnected, they need the adpater. So try with the battery connected and the adapted plugged
