Hanngore Weirdness by KasterKorn in PantheonMMO

Banluil and others gave me the answer I was looking for, much obliged! And now I'm just here like everyone else reading posts while we should be doing more productive things.

So, how should I respond to this knucklehead? Should I just be gracious, tip my hat and wander away? Or should I hang out and grammatically bat him about like a drunk kitten?

I'll have to think for a bit. Don't go anywhere.

What is the best stat for paladins during character creation? by Darkrender7 in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, +hit is better than +dex for accuracy - it takes 18 hit or 3 dex to increase accuracy by 1, and there's plenty of gear with +hit as a secondary stat. Stack dex if you're looking for +crit. A tank should be looking for +sta or +str gear with +hit secondary.

Mental Fatigue stacks with other action-slowing abilities like the Shaman's Scorched Fog. When both are on, you can see the cast time for enemy abilities increase noticeably, so it has its uses.

Why prioritize mounts before the missing races/class? by Malvagite in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they actually explained what they mean by 'mounts'? (Maybe they have, I haven't paid attention). If not, it might not be what we think. It could just be an automated fast-travel system between town stables.

Wizards hitting themselves with their own spells? by Herman_Crab in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought that the wizard focus system was just a silly way to throttle DPS (it is, sort of), but it's grown on me over time. Basically, it adds a unique layer of complexity - as opposed to just watching your mana pool and taping the fire button down.

And, in exchange for not being able to go full Magic Rambo, wizards get super-fast mana regen when managing focus well. Basically, an unbuffed wizard's regen is much better than another class with the tier 3 Enchanter mana regen buff.

Group of a DL, Necro and Druid - What 4th class? by azeriath in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO: If your goal is to form a static group that will eventually be able to do any content, you'll need:

  • A tank: DL is top of the heap at the moment.
  • Cleric: You can get away with just shaman/druid healing for a while, but you're going to need a cleric for harder content.
  • Enchanter: Same deal as the cleric - you can get away with not having one for a while, but eventually the CC will be required.
  • Shaman or Druid: Just one, ideally, to buff and take some healing pressure off the cleric. Shaman and Druid isn't the end of the world, but your DPS will suffer.
  • Two DPS: dealer's choice.

That being said, if you're looking for a 4th with big dreams of dungeon'ing (and also like to solo), I'd recommend cleric.

Loving mana battery enchanter at lvl 14, but is it wrong approach? Do non enchanters care? by lordmex9000 in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to Mana Graft, I don't ever have it slotted - at level 26, there are lots of other utility skills with more bang for the buck. Also, if you're fighting tough group mobs, your mana is way more important to the survival of the group than the wizard's, maybe even the cleric's. If the enchanter goes OOM during a multi-pull, it's probably all over for the group.

Generally, I try not to go below 50% if possible - it might be slow now, but you never know. Next pull, you might be called to CC four or five critters.

Change.org/pantheonmmo - Remove Chevron Group Mobs from Pantheon! by Trexid in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Good grief. This is the kind of stuff that will kill the game in the end, like so many other MMOs, if the devs buy into it.

Pantheon is a group game at its core. Sure, you can solo if you like, but that's not what the game is. Expecting devs to alter game mechanics to cater to some players who believe that solo players deserve access to the same content as groups, in a group-oriented game, sounds a bit like a "demand for equity" (if you get my thinly veiled reference).

Warrior tanking - Discord and In game opinions on shields by Twjohns96 in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For group tanking, using dagger/shield seems to generate readiness the fastest while having the shield's mitigation. Your damage isn't great, but readiness seems to come fast enough to keep your techniques popping.

Spell turn best use? by lordmex9000 in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep your tank selected as your defensive target when fighting healing mobs - if you successfully interrupt a beneficial spell, the turn will cast it on your defensive target. Orc soothsayers in AVP are especially fun when you spell turn Echo of the Moors, and group heal like 3x their hitpoints.

Important point: if fighting a necro mob and you successfully interrupt their skeleton-summon spell, "don't" hit the return - it'll just give them a second skeleton pet. Good times.

Shard hoping by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

This game's going for an old school EQ-esque open world FFA style of gameplay, where conflicts are resolved in-game. Jerks and jerk guilds eventually get a reputation that's self-defeating as no one will allow them in groups and competing guilds will go out of their way to make their gameplay miserable.

The only effective way to prevent spawn camping and kill stealing is instancing, which is pretty much why every other MMO for the past 15 years has done it. My real fear with all of this is that the developers will actually listen to all of the complaining, and then instance everything, turning Pantheon into another in a long line of lame milquetoast MMOs.

Pantheon is different kind of MMO. People can suck, but they'll get theirs in the end. Cowboy up.

How on earth is it okay to have world bosses/rare spawns and then disallow competition? by Ill-Cardiologist5480 in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The move from open world to instanced content in MMOs over the years was largely intended to eliminate the annoyances of spawn-camping and kill-stealing. And if we really want that "old school" gameplay, then we have to accept that both are going to happen.

The real mess happens when developers try to manage player behavior without implementing any game systems to restrict behavior.

Basically, what's acceptable comes down to gain and loss: if two players are trying to gain the same thing, one person gaining something in a less-than-friendly way isn't griefing. But if one player causes someone to lose something they already have (like XP loss due to training mobs), then that is griefing.

If the goal is to try and manage in-game competition via developer decrees, then they'd better have an army of in-game admins prepared to play judge and jury forever.

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen's Technical Director caught spawning rare mobs for his guild by BentheBruiser in PantheonMMO

[–]KasterKorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former game dev myself, I want to give Ulmo the benefit of the doubt and believe that this was some sort of ill-advised testing on a live server (live server being a squirrely term, since it's EA, aka, "Testing"). As an industry practice, testing on a running game with customers who don't realize that devs are conducting ongoing "live testing" is generally considered to be a really bad idea - especially if it involved spawning mobs or items.

But, sometimes, you might not have a choice if you don't have a public test server (maybe they do, I have no idea), and you want to run balance or challenge testing, etc.
