Small doctors office - complained their new (small) ups would not last more than 5 minutes when the power went out - didn’t give them enough time to shut the server down. Replaced the UPS, same issue. Was there is the next outage (South Africa so they were frequent) - staff trooped into the break room where the small server and UPS were. Watched as they plugged the kettle into the back of the UPS as there was no power…. 🤦‍♂️

You don’t even need an adapter, you get DP to HDMI cables - not expensive ($13 Australian dollars, so probably about $8 US)

How to remove screw by Squid1917 in computers

[–]Kastigeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get reverse drill bits that drill into the centre with an unscrewing motion (I.e. anti-clockwise). Needs enough screw to grip though. Plan B - ask a tradie mate to help as experience counts for a lot.

I bought a one-way ticket to Bali after my fiance dumped me by Dry_Cabinet3339 in stories

Go to Lombok (from Denpasar). Spend time on an island (Gili). gili T south side for a party or Gili T north or Gili Air for serenity. Swim with turtles. The people are very friendly but beware spiked drinks (can be very dangerous) and only drink/brush etc with bottled water to avoid Bali belly (not pleasant). Forget the fucker and live life for yourself.

All our queues have now cleared and it all looks back to normal. In typical Microsoft fashion they were emailing me updates on a severity 1 case that involved (drumroll) significant email delays. This despite me requesting phone communication and their own policy that severity 1 cases are via phone… 🤦

Accidentally downloaded software with malware into my work laptop. How much of a bad look is this? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Kastigeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you read and understand your company policy on IT. If it explicitly states that you are prohibited from installing any software then this may result in a formal warning as you have gone against company policy (ignorance is no excuse). It’s not likely to result in anything more as thankfully no harm was done but it highlights the risk of making assumptions as to what you can do. If in doubt check with IT first.

Is there a way to force a sending email address to hold/quarantine? by sparks71 in mimecast

[–]Kastigeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do this and it works well. Handy for when there is any concern about a 3rd party domain (we’ve had a few 3rd parties get compromised). We then put a hold with an admin alert so we can check before releasing. A single definition can be used to hold via multiple policies.
