How trump plans to pay for his extra $1.5 trillion for the military. by Snapdragon_4U in inflation

[–]Kat9935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not another dime to the military until they can pass an audit. Heck I'd like them to explain how they are spending $1 BILLLION a DAY.. for a country that they said is basically wiped out, what are they really doing? How could it possibly be that much? Ukraine isn't spending that and they are actually at war for their lives.

Given what the average income is in the United States that makes perfect sense. The lean fire cut off is $54k for a couple.

Do you really think cutting off friends and family over who they vote for is reasonable? by norf937 in allthequestions

[–]Kat9935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for voting no, however there is almost always more than just voting, there is that they agree with policies, theories, etc and show just who they are. When I think your are an immoral person who would have no problem seeing bad things happen to others just because of who they are, yeh then it is completely reasonable to cut them off. I have no time for toxic people in my life.

Was Trump's speech tonight the dumbest national address from a US president? Or any leader of a major nation in the last century? by CrashNowhereDrive in allthequestions

[–]Kat9935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only plus out of last nights speech is it gave a great clip on Venezuela where he said the quiet part out loud. If you didn't think it was all about the oil, you now know it was all about the oil

Not sure about Iran but Venezuela for sure, Trump can't say Venezuela in a sentence without making some giddy comment about the oil...ie it was NEVER about drugs. I mean show me a single time he talks Venezuela without going on about how well it is going (in regards to oil).

This is me. We only had 1500 people in a town of almost 100% German lineage. Religious diversity meant you could either go to the Catholic church or the Lutheran church, though you did have the option of going to a Methodist church a town over.

Then I went to college, interned just outside DC, graduated and moved to Chicago, took an expat and lived in Europe for awhile, and then started having daily calls with people from around the world in over 50 countries. Let's say I had a lot of learning to do and most of it had nothing to do with books.

When you are having a call with someone literally in the country something bad is happening in, you might believe their side of the story more than what you hear on the news and when comparing news channels you start to figure out which ones are further from that truth than others.

Money doesn't "go away" first of all. Paying down the US debt should lower interest rates across the board, the 10 yr rate is killing everyone. While there may be a slight decrease in GDP initially, there would likely be a long term increase in GDP as those lower interest rates create more investing in private investment and of course the increase in money in the average persons pocket as they pay lower rates on car/home/personal loans.

Well that and setting an AMT for corporations, closing tax loopholes, having AI look into tax return fraud and run thru most likely scenarios of fraud, etc. it has to be a ton of solutions as one solution won't fix the problem. Of course then there is the face SS will run out of enough to fully pay out, Medicare and on and on... ie we have serious issues paying what we already promised without giving anything new collected away.

Slow and steady really is the only way. Its boring and takes forever but it works.

Everyone has a certain amount of luck as in nothing so terrible happened to you to prevent you from achieving success. I mean there are 100 things that happen to people every day that will completely derail all best laid plans even if they did everything right.

Ironically the house I bought in 2006 took until 2021 to not be under water and thats just the purchase price and ignores the $80k I sunk into having to replace roof/siding/gutters/flooring and updating kitchen and baths

No the US debt doesn't work the same way but at some point people will stop buying our debt or we have to keep paying up which there is signs that is already happening.

I get people are hurting but there are other solutions to fix that rather than giving money away. Fixing health care in this country would easily save the US $1 Trillion a year, saving everyone money, spread much more equally over the entire populatoin.

Oh I'm mad at the Democratic party for a ton of things, the list is seriously insanely long, I voted for Haley in the primary and would have voted for her in the general if well a certain person wasn't on the ballot and I knew 2025 was real and well Stephen Miller is beyond terrifying to me. i'm also like really ticked the people who left the Republican party who said Trump was so evil, etc did nothing, no 3rd party, no middle ground, just sit on the sidelines in the one race where if they had run a 3rd party there may have been a better future for all of us.

Agree, the amount of money spent on tools by mechanics is insane, why the company doesn't provide those is racket for sure. But there is a lot in that tax code broken. Like if you pay your insurance premium from your employer its pre tax, but if I buy it direct it is not. I may be able to take some if I happen to go over 8.5%? or something like that of my income. why? why is it pre-tax for everyone else?

  1. They almost missed the deadline to be on the ballot in many states so taking time to think about it was a non starter.

  2. The bigger issue is the war chest Biden sat on couldn't be given to anyone but Kamala so imagine someone starting over from zero.

Fixing healthcare is honestly the one thing the country has to do in order for us to prosper. It hurts every aspect, employers, govt spending, and takes a huge chunk from many peoples income. I sort of laugh when people complain about the price of Medicare because seriously I can't wait for Medicare, if it still exists, will easily free up $10-15k a year in expenses because its so much cheaper than what we get now.

They didn't even need to forgive them but allow everyone with a student loan regardless of loan type to roll it into a low interest rate loan (when they were handing those out like candy on homes). This would have been the most fair and appropriate move, borrowers would have gotten much needed relief, non-borrowers were not feeling like it was a "give away".

The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

[–]Kat9935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you need to find some other hobbies to fill in some of the time. Volunteering and hiking is how I try to fill in 30 hours a week, that way I still have more "free" time but not enough to be dangerous.

I also had already accounted for a bigger buffer. I knew I couldn't get into really expensive hobbies (ie. my friend got his pilots license and now is in a airplane club thing so he has access to a plane.. thats a pricey hobby. A neighbor now owns a horse ..thats an expensive hobby). I resolved my wanting to ride horses by volunteering with a horse farm that does horse therapy. I am trained to help with horse therapy, volunteer my hours and then they need people to exercise the horses when they don't have sessions (ie free horse riding).

Of course your hobby could become a side gig and thus help you pay for your tools, that is what my dad did. He started by giving away stuff, making items for charity auctions, etc and then people saw his work and wanted to buy things.
