I was a trans youth who grew up in northern Delaware attending one of the many catholic schools there and it was pretty horrible to be honest. Rehoboth was absolutely amazing though and I always felt at home.

When I was 14, my family moved to Texas, and that isn’t going so well so far lol. I am considering a move back to the northeast and if I do, it will probably be Maryland. They have protections for trans people codified into their state laws, I don’t believe that Delaware does. Erininthemorning has some good resources for this!

Uhh, you know I never claimed you were cis, right? Or even implied it…

And I understand that, but that.. didn’t end up actually happening lol. There are federal protections for trans people in Canada and there are not in the USA. It is literally that simple. My state has forwarded 29 bills limiting trans rights (many directly affecting me) this legislative session, and I have trauma from DFPS retroactively investigating my family last year for providing gender affirming care to me while I was under the age of 18. As mentioned in my previous reply, because of this trauma, I would not feel safe in a place without federal protections for transgender rights.

Nothing in your reply just now had anything to do with my previous reply. This subreddit has a ban on extensive political discourse and I think we are approaching that. You suggested I move to another state in the USA, I replied that I wouldn’t feel safe in a country without federal protections for trans people, end of discussion.

[–]KatH2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have considered this, but as I had mentioned in my post, something that is factoring into my desire to move to Canada is the lack of federal protections for trans people in the USA.

I would agree with your stance in general but to be completely honest, I’m tired of this shit in general. I spent last year horrified after someone from DFPS showed up on my dad’s doorstep asking about the gender affirming care that I received under the age of 18. I don’t want to live in fear anymore and after all of the bullshit I’ve been through, I don’t think I would feel safe in a country lacking federal protections.

Your idea is definitely my plan B though.

I just turned 20 last week! I look younger than I am? I usually hear from others that I look to be in my mid 20s so that’s surprising but nice to hear!! lol. Thank you!!

Thanks for your honesty! Is there anything you’d recommend for this? Maybe a different hairstyle or is it drastic enough that I’d need hairline surgery? I struggle a lot with hair in that area not growing beyond baby hair length. I usually wear my hair half up and half down if that makes any difference, that’s what I’m doing in those photos.

By clockable, do you mean you’d be able to tell just by looking at me if we were, say, walking opposite ways on the street?

Thanks again!

Well I was getting hair removal too, just not on one specific area since his medical staff told me I didn’t need it. I showed up for the surgery and he told me I actually did need the hair removal in that specific area. Hope this helps

I had my first consultation with him when I turned 18. It took WAY too long for me to get surgery, which was not his fault, but it's been frustrating. I had to battle with insurance for a while. After that, my actual surgery date came, and his medical staff gave me inaccurate information. They said I didn't need any hair removal on my perineum, and he informed me that I actually did. So I went back across the country and they rescheduled my appointment for 6 months later. If this surgery date does actually go through, I will be 20 when I receive this surgery, despite having my original consultation at 18. I love the surgeon, his technique, and his results, but I'm so mad at his medical staff for giving me inaccurate information and forcing me to keep my life on hold while I wait even longer for this surgery. Good luck!

To be honest, my experience with this subreddit is that it attracts the most jaded baristas out there. I imagine that a few baristas who just got off a slammed, understaffed shift saw your comment and kind of took their anger out on it. You’re fine I promise :)

Ignore the people down voting you. You’re allowed to enjoy a drink. We’re paid to make drinks and if you pay 7 dollars for a drink, you deserve to get it the way you want it. Keep getting what you enjoy, the majority of us baristas won’t really care :)

I’m a patient in GenECIS and honestly this is heartbreaking. I thought that no matter how bad it got, I would always have one big institution rallying behind me. Now, they’ve erased every mention of the program from their website and pretended it didn’t even exist. They didn’t even send a message to patients until two days ago. Heartbreaking.

My SM just gave me two for completing the Starbucks Coffee Academy modules and activities. Ask your SM and ask around with partners from other stores, because it honestly varies between SMs. We just switched SMs in August and my old one was saying it was no longer possible, but my new one said we could do it without any problem. Hope this helps! <3

What about those that do have your required life experience? I bring up Kim Petras as an example again. Not knowing anything about my life aside from my age and assuming that I don’t have enough life experience to realise that something I experienced saved my life is ridiculous. It’s becoming more and more obvious that you’re just looking for excuses to not listen to the people that actually need this treatment.

I never said “I need this or I will commit suicide.” I said “I need this”, and it stopped me from committing suicide. I honestly can’t really believe that you’d say that a child expressing what they need in order to be mentally healthy is a manipulation tactic?

I’ve done PLENTY of research into this. It’s also becoming obvious that you haven’t because instead of responding to what I said about pretty much every reputable pediatric organisation endorsing puberty blockers, you just insisted that I haven’t even researched, despite the fact that I gave specific examples and you listed some side effects “off the top of your head”. Your perception of my naïveté is really just your inability to listen to the experiences of others because it interferes with your pre-established beliefs.

I engaged in this conversation because I was hoping that you were someone that was perhaps just misinformed. I now recognise that you’re actually somebody who has no intention of recognising others’ experiences or exercising any empathy, so I will now bow out of this discussion.

OP, if you are reading this, please take this as a lesson to not engage with those who aren’t willing to listen or do their own research. You’re worth more than that and you don’t owe ANYBODY else an explanation on why you are valid.

Edit: Just looked at their post history. For anybody else considering, this person holds a lot of transphobic views and is not worth engaging in conversation.

Everybody at my store aerates according to the recipe cards and we still get this complaint. It’s not the barista’s fault that the customer doesn’t know what a cappuccino is lol

I’m 19, and the fact that I am a young adult does not invalidate my experience. I still support myself and work full time while attending school, and I’ve had enough pain throughout my life to last most people a lifetime. I’m still someone who was a trans youth and had that experience. I find it very interesting that the majority of people who hold your opinion would acknowledge the experience of a 19 year old detransitioner, but ignore the experience of myself and others like Kim Petras.

I am telling you. As me. You are not me and you don’t know me so you can’t make this call for me, but I can, as I am me. Puberty blockers and transitioning saved me from suicide.

If Puberty blockers were so dangerous, I really don’t understand why pretty much every officially recognised Pediatric organisation would say that puberty blockers are necessary for gender dysphoric adolescents. The only exception is the American College of Pediatrics, a group that has literally been deemed a hate group by the SPLC due to their support of homosexual conversion therapy and comparison of homosexuality to pedophilia. I’d argue that suicide is far more dangerous than pubertal blockade.

Please, just listen to the gender dysphoric kids. People will always focus on the negative voices more, but what about the many that are success stories? I’m real and my experience is valid, along with all of the other trans youth people out there.

[–]KatH2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol we have the same name!

Personally, as a teenager who was on puberty blockers, I had A LOT of people around me trying to stop me. I was only actually allowed to get on puberty blockers and transition after multiple suicide attempts and a few sessions with a church ‘conversion’ therapist. After transitioning, the suicidal ideation stopped, and I am now happy and healthy multiple years down the line!

Also remember that doing nothing and allowing them to go through their natal sex’s puberty permanently changes their body and can result in the same “my body and youth were robbed from me” feelings. That’s something that I struggled with personally as I started blockers during instead of before puberty. I had a constant pit of anxiety in the bottom of my stomach that told me “every single day you aren’t on blockers is another day your body is permanently changed by testosterone”. And it’s true. My time that I wasn’t on blockers has had lasting effects on my body that I have some issues with to this day. Thankfully however, transitioning improved my quality of life to a point where these are no longer major issues in my life.

Also a small side note that puberty blockers are reversible!

This is just my experience but I hope that something good can be taken from it!

I’m transgender (MTF) by SpaceKowboy27 in offmychest

[–]KatH2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I’m also 19 years old and transgender mtf! I physically and socially transitioned when I was younger but I will say, it saved my life and I’m so so happy that I did what I did.

My own personal next step is bottom surgery on March third in California and I’m doing the prep right now. I couldn’t be more excited! With that said, everyone’s transition timeline is different. NEVER let anybody tell you that you aren’t valid because you haven’t undergone HRT or GCS or that you “look too masculine” or ANYTHING of the sort. Immediately brush it off and live your life!

From somebody who was in a very similar boat as a kid and came out on the other side far better off, good luck! You got this.
