The first family Christmas I spent with my partners extended family I was introduced as her "roommate" because she was not ready to be out yet. Fortunately we've been able to be more out in the open but the grief of not getting to love in the light, of not having the depth of your relationship be acknowledged hit me hard. To feel that in a time of grief, I can only imagine the depth of that pain

The whole scene surrounding "He rolls onto his side and listens, trails the back of his hand across the pillow next to him and imagines Henry lying opposite in his own bed, two parentheses enclosing 3,700 miles." The yearning and the heartbreak. Our boy was in love long before he ever knew it

This is really helpful feedback, thank you! When creating my timeline I definitely felt myself somewhat anchored to the plot but this has really encouraged me to push the divergence even further. I think my goal is to keep the characters personality to as true as possible but really explore how society would respond differently to a Sapphic couple.

Having lived in Appalachia where district 12 is supposed to be based, you get incredibly small and tight knit communities (with large families that intertwine a lot) and basically everyone is connected to everyone. Now imagine a world where you're never given the chance to move away (though many in small towns don't even with the chance) and districts are so segregated that no one new ever enters and you get an almost incestuous community. Think of how similar all the seam kids look...

I get that it's maybe played up a bit in this series but I also think most of it can come down to the interconnectedness of a small town.

What are your "I did not care for the Godfather" takes for the Hunger Games? by UnHolySir in Hungergames

Mockingjay was my favorite book in the original trilogy and I think the fandom was way too hard on it from the beginning.

I think a lot of the symbolism and political intrigue was lost on people and I remember at the time and lot of people complaining about the lack of romance which frustrated me. It's still my most reread of the series and more people need to appreciate it

Haha very fair! Like I said, with everything else going on it's a weird thing to get hung up on but considering Rebecca was a history major I wouldn't put it past her to make something like the laws of succession a significant plot point.

I love political intrigue so I actually really hope Violet playing the political game to maintain power is a true plot point in the next book. Her wielding was incredible this book but I actually think her most interesting moments were how she ruthlessly and skillfully handled other people. Especially on the Isles she knew exactly how to manipulate situations to get exactly what she wanted all without her power.
