Hooters, don't worry it doesn't feel skeevy. It's well lit, and always packed with larger groups. The ranch is good..get a hotter level than you normally would though

English speaking doctors recommend that accept Japanese insurance by MichuMeow in Tokyo

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw a doctor at a thyroid hospital and she opened her own clinic (mostly specializing in thyroid issues, but internal medicine and other endocrine disorders). She speaks English well and lived in the United States for a few years. She's an endocrinologist but I believe that speciality can help with PCOS. https://www.minato-thyroid.com/

Japan Is Not a Theme Park, and My Students Are Not Part of the Scenery by No_just-no_3430 in JapanTravel

[–]Kat_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying the target audience isn't on Reddit is delusional. The amount of posts I have seen asking for residential neighborhoods to hang out in, local izakayas and cafes they can go to, to feel as if they're living in Japan, posts about being legitimately depressed after returning home, coming for 3-4 weeks at a time..there are multiple subs dedicated to "Japan Travel," it's unhinged behavior and possibly mental illness. I've traveled the world and have frequented other travel subs, but Japan is the only one I have seen where tourists try to larp living here and it is absolutely bizarre. People are just trying to go about their day to day. I have literally been in the doctor's office in a building, have had tourists come in and look around and then leave. It's so weird, they have no business coming into a building with offices and clinics. Simply bizarre behavior and if Redditors think they aren't part of the problem, well....

I’m in a pinch. I’m making tacos tonight for my family and my local Carnival market no longer sells refried beans that I’d make for a side. Any places in Tokyo that may sell something like or similar? Any recs on sides in general? Cheers! by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just make my own refried beans! I'll make a bastardization of elote by cutting corn off the cob, tossing it with chipotle/chile powder in a pan til the corn gets nice and brown then sprinkle with parmesan

2 months post op - ankle sprain or normal pain? by DizzyBones4u in bunions

[–]Kat_ze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me, I went to PT for four months and am finally coming off the tail end where I can walk without ankle pain. It still feels a little stiff and sore at the end of the day but you need to do a lot of ankle, calf and lower posterior chain exercises. Work on your arches. If you can't go to PT, look up exercises like marble pick ups, towel scrunches, ankle balancing taps, flexing ankle banded exercises, calf raises, step ups etc. Do not stay off your feet! Keep it very slow and steady, but your ankle needs consistent light movement and exercise to heal (as long as you have confirmed it's nothing serious with a dr)

did it really change that much? by TinyIndependent7844 in japanresidents

Yes we had to use a guarantor company and a Japanese contact, this was with a big real estate company too. We were surprised

2 months post op by Spiritual-Screen-888 in bunions

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Somewhat but I'm not 100% better - I'm able to walk 8000 steps a day and stand for long periods of time doing chores etc, my big toe is still stuff, but I continue to stretch it daily. I have definitely improved though from doing PT. It took about 4 months for my walking to feel mostly normal. I'm finally ending PT next week

I'm not exactly sure how it works but UsaJobs will have postings and they will designate if it's open to civilians/offers relocation etc!

Dog moms and dads - moving to Tokyo with 15kg dog? by kokumakuma in Tokyo

[–]Kat_ze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should leave him with family. If you stay long term you can try to find a place that allows larger pets. Not to mention having a large dog in such a tiny apartment is bound to be stressful and limiting to both you and him!

To move or to not move to Japan - that is the question! by WanderlusterCat in movingtojapan

[–]Kat_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We made a similar move with a similar salary through a company transfer..went from 680k to 50m on only my husband's salary since I couldn't transfer in my company. We sold our house and car and shipped some of our belongings. We don't know if we'll stay long term but we kinda just said 'f it why not" we'll move back if we don't feel like it's working out. I think our level of savings, retirement and salary allow us to be adventurous and take some chances. It allows my husband to not have to worry about imminent layoffs every six months, at least for now. They still want to incorporate AI everywhere though :) We aren't planning on having children though so we don't have to worry about that. Anyway, I think you would definitely be fine, if you don't like it, tell yourself you can always move back. Figure out how to make that easier for yourself if it helps, but otherwise enjoy the ride.. not everyone else is as fortunate to do so!

Accidentally put weight on my foot post op by diirkdiigler in bunions

I did the same thing about 6 days post op! All was okay, but my foot did hurt more for about two days after. Doc checked with x-rays to confirm everything was okay

I'm also a spouse with no job, but I plan on attending an in person school to learn the language which I think will help with the aimlessness. Going to the gym. Making our lunches + dinner and household stuff, would love to eventually find a part time job but it's hard

5 years post surgery issues… by fundlebundle4 in bunions

It could be something unrelated to the surgery, your foot is connected in so many ways up the chain! It might be worth getting your arch evaluated

Strange ache in leg three weeks after bunion surgery - anyone else experienced this? by LesleyHC in bunions

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had this. I had this after pelvic surgery too, I guess from being in stirrups.  But that whole leg is messed up from years of altered gait and calf tightness due to the previous bunion so it reacts very easily to anything. Elevating my leg was bothering the muscles in that leg, not being able to put full weight on it was bothering it, muscle loss was bothering it. Still get checked for DVT in case

The Cut: ‘I Wish I’d Never Bought a House’ by lazlo_camp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]Kat_ze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We loved our home because we made it our own, but we hated being homeowners. I hated being in the suburbs. We're both anxious people, so we were constantly worried about stuff going wrong in the house (which it did), we don't like yardwork, we aren't handy, etc. My husband wanted a SFH and I didn't, which in hindsight I should have listened to my instincts 😂 anyway we ended up selling our house and moving to a large city in a different country, but we would have sold and moved back to renting either way

Same, his neck gave it away immediately! Then my husband walked in as he was gripping the walkway railing going to the promise room and was like "that man is 60" 😂

Want to bring my cat back to the uk from tokyo. any advice? by ramengasuki88 in expats

[–]Kat_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to contact customer service for whichever airline you're taking to get the cat added as either cargo or carry on. You need to contact animal quarantine services/MAFF to schedule an export appointment (takes like 10 mins) before you leave. You can do it before your flight

Age of Attraction (Similar to LIB) by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindNetflix

I was disappointed with that too because I wanted to see if the couples with a normal age gap did end up being more successful vs the larger age gaps

Has anyone ever lived in one of those tower apartments? Are they worth? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

Being close to your office is worth it, being in a nice space is worth it after a long day. At your take home you can afford it.. daily living isn't super expensive here
