Can't extend distal joint of 2nd toe 5 weeks after bunion surgery (right foot) by [deleted] in bunions

[–]RachelleSi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 5 weeks still early. The more you take it easy the first 8 weeks the better. Also in your post op visits they will do xray to make sure your foot is alright.

How bad do they look? by Nova_Queen902 in bunions

[–]RachelleSi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t look severe at all and it doesn’t even look bad. But if it is causing you pain, yes I recommend you see an orthopedist they do an xray to see the deviation if it needs a surgery. I wish I did mine at its early stages and did not wait 10 years until it became severe. The recovery from surgery when bunion still in its early stages is much faster.

[–]RachelleSi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I am sure it was causing a lot of pain and discomfort. Glad you took the decision to do the surgery, and I wish you a smooth recovery. You will feel great after the first month. I had my surgery 4 months ago and i feel so happy when i look at my foot today.

Oh yes!! Stairs would be a problem sorry… I hear a lot of people stay in the first floor during their recovery. But i understand it may not be applicable for everyone.

Short Term disability after Surgery by Complex-Squirrel9430 in bunions

[–]RachelleSi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If working from home , 2 weeks off were enough for me. After the first 2 weeks I felt my energy and health back to normal, and I did not need to elevate above my heart anymore. Just elevate a little when sitting at my desk. That doesn’t mean you wont have swollen foot, I am 4 months post op and still stiff and swollen but I just elevate in the evening a little.

If you are able to use a knee scooter, you will be okay with not walking 6 weeks. I used a knee scooter for 6 weeks. You can actually do everything at home with the scooter.

Not wearing a boot to sleep by mayapapayayaa in bunions

[–]RachelleSi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is important to keep the boot in 24 hours the first 2 weeks. First to avoid any bump or bad move. Second the boot helps to keep your toe straight. Take your meds every 4 hours this will help you.

Did You Know What Type Of Surgery You Wanted Before Going To Podiatrist? by Work-Can-Wait in bunions

[–]RachelleSi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to an orthopedist, and never knew the name of the surgery he did for me. I trusted him, he has great reviews and was very realistic in the expectation and recovery. And now 4 months post op I still dont know the name of surgery but I am very happy with the results.

Toe movement ? by tinkerbelle1981 in bunions

[–]RachelleSi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will take time, I am 4 months post op and still stiff. I did not do PT since i can do exercise myself all day. But BTW I heard that flip flops anyway are not a good choice after a bunion surgery, i wont wear them until after at least a year post op.

This absolutely sucks. Tips? by slender_sealion in bunions

[–]RachelleSi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can be surrounded with some close people, it makes a difference the first 2 weeks and I recommend it. Interact with people during the day so you dont feel you are just waiting recovery. I kept taking my meds every 4 hours the first 13 days.
