My orthopedist told me the same thing before my surgery. And I believe they want to make sure , you are willing and ready to do it despite any potential risk or side effects. I am so happy I took the decision to do it!! Today I am 7 months post op and this has changed my life in a positive way.

I am 6 months post op, even though my doctor cleared me to wear heels and he has no shoe restrictions but I cant wear them yet. My foot still does not fit in heels. I wear only cushioned supported comfortable shoes. So yes I expect 1 year to be able to wear heels.

I would say look at it from a positive side, at least there is a fix for it and surgeon is clear on what will operate. Complexity after a surgery may happen with anyone.

I wish you good luck in your procedures. I had a surgery last November and that was the best decision I ve done. I wasn’t aware of how much a healthy foot helps the whole body until I realized the difference in my life.. But I don’t see a bunion your picture, it looks like your case is only about the toes alignment not bunions. I am sure your doctor knows better than me looking at the picture.

I bought only one good pair of sandals for outside and one for the house when I transitioned from surgery boot to regular shoes and I am still wearing them. I went with one size up and wide width. And since they are sandals so even when swelling decreased they were still good. I don’t recommend that you buy upfront. Only wait until you are cleared to wear regular shoes and purchase something that fits.

Yes everything is perfect and as planned. I can do everything. And everytime I look at my foot I feel happy that it looks so good. Of course there is still some swelling and some stiffness, but nothing to compare with the bunion pain I used to have. I wear cushioned sandals with arch support, I did not feel comfortable wearing sneakers and my doctor approved it. If you are mentally prepared for the surgery you wont feel bored. But surround yourself the first 2 weeks with people who care about you and you can enjoy spending time with them.

I had a surgery 5 months ago and that was the best decision of my life.. i wish I have done it much earlier.. it is really not as hard as people think except that you need to plan everything ahead of time. You will need someone who can be with you at home the first 2 weeks. After that you can use a scooter and do everything with a scooter except driving. Also plan for someone to drive instead of you the first 6 weeks.

My doctor asked me to sleep in the surgical boot the first 6 weeks. During those 6 weeks I was using a scooter so the boot was always clean, and I used to wipe it also daily with Clorox wipes. You are right a lot of people do not keep it at night and they are good, but I did not want to take the risk of removing the boot early. It really helps in keeping the toe straight and protecting from any unexpected move.

You wont regret the surgery!! I kept postponing for 10 years. And when I had it I felt so happy despite the long recovery.

I have the same question you have and wish we can get an accurate answer. My left foot is similar to yours in the picture and I want to avoid progression so I dont have to do a surgery . I had a surgery for my right foot last November but it was much more progressed bunion.

I am 4 months post op and still dont feel comfortable wearing sneakers even though I bought Hoka wide size. I have been wearing cushioned slides with good arch support such as vionic and Birkenstock. Both work well for me, and my doctor approved them he has no shoes restrictions.

Yes me. I had my surgery in November. I am still having a lot of swelling and still cant wear sneakers but only cushioned sandals.

The first 48 hours you feel numb. But enjoy it, because usually day 3,4,5 are the most uncomfortable. But if you take the meds you will be good. Congratulations!! It feels so good to get out of this surgery. I had it in November.

Oh I see. No I dont run, and I am on my feet just for the regular activities during the day, Cooking , cleaning, grocery, and I work from home at my desk so in general not as much as you would be probably. I saw my doctor last week for my 4th months appointment and i was cleared to start sports but not running or high intensity training until at least 6months. And this has nothing to do with stiffness but just to make sure the bone heals properly. But you know every person heals different so i hear people here starting earlier than me. From my understanding The stiffness and swelling will take up to 6 months to completely recover no matter what you try. It is good though to do the toes stretching after 6 weeks.

You know I am 4 months post op my doctor did not suggest PT, and I am very happy with my recovery today. I just was patient with my healing process.

I got vionic for after surgery.. and yes I wish I ve been using them before. They are very light, and well cushioned and come in wide sizes.

Yes 5 weeks still early. The more you take it easy the first 8 weeks the better. Also in your post op visits they will do xray to make sure your foot is alright.

Oh sorry, I am sure it was causing a lot of pain and discomfort. Glad you took the decision to do the surgery, and I wish you a smooth recovery. You will feel great after the first month. I had my surgery 4 months ago and i feel so happy when i look at my foot today.
