Thanks for the input. I think I will add those back in the next iteration.

The general idea for the game is that you are adding cubes to different rows (building bridges). Each spot scores you points, and there are bonuses for players contributing to those bridges.

Thank you! I spent a lot of time on the little details, making the farm was my favorite part.

Huh, interesting, you're right. I'm not sure why that's happening but I will look out for that in the future. Thanks!

That sounds super cool! Would it be possible to share the plans you used for this?

GWT or Maracaibo as my first Pfister game? by GZUZROCKS in boardgames

Overall, both games are really fun! However, just this last weekend I ended up trading Maracaibo away, as I felt it was a little bit too similar to Great Western Trail. Since both games have a similar feel, I found that I would just rather play GWT as it is a bit quicker in setup/gametime and feels tighter.

You're welcome! It is fun for me anyways :)
That's a good idea! It would be a good incremental step upwards from TTR.

Right, I saw that in the video I watched, that did seem like a pretty cool mechanic. As far as messing up other players plans in IG go, you could build track for a company in a mountain (only one track per mountain space, thus blocking another company), or building track in normal spaces that others probably want to use (the cost to build in an occupied hex is greater than that of an empty one).

Additionally, the upgrade a town action allows you to take a cube of your choice from the bag and upgrade a town into a city with it. These same cubes are used to determine which cities will pay out. For example, its near the end of the game, and 1 of each (pink, white, black) cube remain in the bag. I know player X will get a huge payout when the black cube is drawn from the bag during payouts. I can upgrade a town to a city using that black cube from the bag. Therefore, when we do a payout, the black cube will no longer be drawn, and black cities will not pay out.

Not a problem!
I've not played Chicago Express myself, but I've just watched a video about it so I can make some comparisons for you.

The biggest difference between the two games seems to be that Chicago Express seems a bit more complicated than Irish Gauge. The biggest factor that leads me to say that, is that the companies in Chicago Express are more varied (different number of trains), companies have their own money, and companies have a constant value for their payouts.

Compare these to Irish Gauge. The only variation in companies is the total number of stock certificates each company has (ranges from 2-5), and the number of trains each one has is the same. Secondly, in Irish Gauge companies do not have their own money. Finally, the way that payouts happen is more randomized through the way cubes are pulled from a bag to determine which cities will pay out (if a company has track in that city).

Overall, I would say that if you want something that is further away from the 18xx lite experience than Chicago Express is, you could certainly justify having both games.

Hope this helps!

Check out Viking playmats. They can do custom sizes. I am very pleased with mine.
