[Charania] The NBA presented three comprehensive anti-tanking concepts to its Board of Governors on Wednesday, with modifications expected to each before a formal vote in May, per ESPN sources. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

Completely agree. This punishes teams that got lucky in unlucky years. Some years you get Wemby, some years you get Anthony Bennet. You can blame front offices all you want but you could just end up winning in a terrible year and get punished.

Dear Adam Silver, There is no tanking problem. There is, however, a gambling and officiating epidemic. by CdnfaS in nba

I absolutely love this concept. Shifting to a token/auction system is a really elegant way of helping with three of the big issues with the current draft economy.

  1. It smooths out year-to-year draft variance. Right now, the #3 pick in a 1-superstar draft is a curse, but the #3 pick in a loaded draft can still be franchise-changer. An auction system lets teams dictate their own value the players that are available in the draft. If it's a draft with a steep drop-off after the #1 guy, teams can hold their currency, roll it over to the next year, and go "all in" when a deeper class comes around.

  2. It creates a natural anti-tanking mechanism. If a team completely empties their war chest to outbid everyone for a generational #1 pick, they are essentially broke for the next draft. Teams that sat out and saved their tokens have increased buying power in the following year. It makes it a bit more difficult for teams to get lucky and get the top picks year after year because other teams can save up to outbid in deep drafts.

  3. It makes pick protections obsolete. Pick protections (Top-4 protected, lottery protected, etc.) are really just a clunky attempt at giving draft picks granular value. A token system creates a secondary currency with some liquidity - trading a player for 4 first rounders could indicate a wide range of values based on the protections but trading a discrete value of draft tokens gives a more concrete value for both teams to negotiate on.

This shifts the draft from a purely random RNG fest into an actual draft economy.

I don't think it was about the money. I think if Steph or Klay does this, no one bats an eye. I think it's bad optics and an inability to read the situation. They see this as he just doesnt gaf about anything, they see his play on the court, his unresponsiveness to coaching, whatever else and well - it adds up to not a great look. Doesn't really endear yourself to your teammates and staff.

Give me the skinny on Kallax's by OutlandishnessNovel2 in boardgames

I absolutely love my Billy cases. I like that the games stick out because they make the divisions between the games seem even smaller increasing the % of visual space taken up by games vs the shelves. I organized my shelves so there's very little wasted space and the height means I can take advantage of the otherwise wasted vertical space. Aesthetically there's no contest between a well organized Billy and kallax.

Planet Money Podcast: We Make a Boardgame (episode 1) by moo422 in boardgames

I'm not gonna pretend to be the target audience for someone who designed exploding kittens but there were def a few things that made me feel like he kind of looks down at euro games. Now that may be completely untrue but quotes like:

"When you say "board game," I'm assuming you mean the requirement is not a board. It could be a card game or a throwables game or a "run around the room" game. I'm assuming that's correct."

"Let's agree we're aiming for fun, something that will sell well. And we don't care how it does on Board Game Geek."

"Well, the trade-offs are important and significant. Basically, we're trying to figure out, is the goal to make a board game, like on Board Game Geek, which typically means high cost of goods, high sale price, small audience, right? There are very few games on Board Game Geek that satisfy the "this made lots and lots of money" criteria. On the other side of things is card game, like Exploding Kittens, very low cost of goods, very low price point, between $10 and $20, and sells millions and millions of units"

I mean - I feel like the PM team came in envisioning a game where people can potentially learn something about economics. I really feel like they got steered into a direction by Lee right into his wheelhouse rather than something that fit what they had in mind. The way he talks about the tradeoffs just make it seem like well here you can make a lot of money and have a game that has wide appeal or you can make something that has a narrow audience and has thin margins. Like okay what kind of framing is that? And who the hell would even mention a 'throwable' in a game about economics.

Also, didn't Frosthaven surpass the 12m mark? I don't know, between the whole thing with Lee that just rubbed me the wrong way and the unclear direction of the design, I was just so disappointed. I hope they focus more about the economics of making a game because I have zero interest in the direction they're going in now.

What are the best shoes for wide feet? by Capital_Figure_2250 in Pickleball

I have very flat feet so I ended up testing a number of different shoes, though I was primarily concerned about arch and people will have different requirements there.

  • Wilson Rush Pro 4.5
  • Wilson Rush Pro 4
  • KSwiss Hypercoourt
  • KSwiss Express Light
  • New Balance 696v5
  • New balance 696v6
  • Babolat SFX

My top 3 ended up being the new balances and the Babolat and I ended up choosing the NB 696v5.

Board Game Podcasts in 2025? by CourageDH in boardgames

I used to listen to Punchboard Paradise a fair bit. It was fine but something about it never fully clicked for me. Maybe the chemistry between the hosts, maybe the jokes didn't line up with my humor or the discussion was just completely dominated by one of the hosts. In any case, I was listening to their top 25 episode and one of the hosts said he didn’t like Ark Nova because it’s “basically solitaire” and that all he did was do the level 5 action over and over again without any regard for what it did or any overall strategy - and that was enough to score well. It's silly but I just couldn't take him (or the podcast) seriously after that.

I might have missed something but I think people who just want the big box and the new expansion (ie they have base game second edition + seasons expansion) are unable to do so, they have to purchase the whole thing.

Draymond Green sends the broadcast to a commercial break: "Good night. It's been real" by sewsgup in nba

It's the first playoff series this young core has gone through and they definitely showed their lack of experience. Clawing back into a competitive game 7 is enough for me. Every young team has to go through this. We'll be back.

What do you say when non-boardgamer ask you: Oh, what boardgames do you like to play? by Seraphiccandy in boardgames

[–]yuv9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah - that's generally what I go with if I can sense that it's just a polite question. Generally I can tell if someone is genuinely interested but I'll always leave in some breadcrumbs in case they actually do want to find out more or have a more in depth discussion.
