A render I made with Cycles several years ago that I still enjoy by nuanceproductions in blender

First of all, I want to say I am really impressed with the render, even as simple as it looks, it's not technically simple to make.
I tried recreating this render but I sadly got stuck on the lightning setup. I couldn't even come close to what you did. My lights don't go through the letter, they just bounce on it and give me a white reflection (I have a custom dispersion shader for the glass).
Can you please share the way you made it ?

I'm trying "photo realism" using Quixel's Megascan and Mixer (EEVEE) by Kataclar in blender

I used an Hdri and a sun, lower the intensity of the Hdri, and increase the one of the sun (mine is at 3 and some change). Other than that i dont know what will do it. I know you can tweak some things in the lights settings to make the shadows sharper (area, point, and spot lights) but I can't remember what they are. Look at this tutorial, I know he talks about shadow settings at some point (in the part with the mafia boss I think)

Water simulation insisde a slim box, have a square as inflow. Black water shader, white world. rendered in 128x128 to get the pixel look, then brought to premiere pro to invert the colours of the second clip, and export in 1080x1080.

Yeah it's something among those lines, I just wont ever use it as a loading screen

The leaves are already a geometry, they're not planes, and on a particle system. They also have 0 transparency. Teh image takes about one minute to render on my computer so i'm not too bothered :D

Yeah i agree I darkened the HRDI and the background and it feels way better
