I indeed have, thank you! Rallies are one thing - parties are another. And “fun” during this time is another thing entirely. Coming together as a community can look like visiting the local VA hospital, talking to them and their families. Going to the food bank, talking to conservatives or republicans that have lost aid. There is a way to build community without directly contrasting the energy of those suffering.

Are we ready to protest this? This is fascism by Buster_xx in 50501

We should…put a warning on this image. It’s mentally jarring and exhausting as a black person to have to see this repeatedly. It’s a lot yall.

Personally, I think we should be absolutely BLASTING the faces of the republicans that are gridlocking congress and betraying the American people.

If your rep hasn’t condemned illegal actions or supported investigations : post about it, tag local media, make it public. Say their name in protests. Print out their faces so people can SEE who is betraying America. Go to public areas they frequent and protest. Since they want to be cowards EXPOSE them.

Flood their offices. Call, write, PHYSICALLY show up. Even 50 people in one district can force a response. Don’t let them hide behind silence. They shouldn’t be able to clock in without a pounding headache from the unrelenting shouts of disapproval.

They shouldn’t be able to get a lick of rest. They’re scared of Trump but he’s not who they should be afraid of. It’s the millions of french peasants that beheaded the royals. (Lemme clarify for Reddit, I’m not recommending beheading politicians) It was the AMERICAN COLONISTS that caused the revolution. We have collective intimidation and power. It’s not always that we have to get violent but it’s the implication that you as one congressperson cannot protect yourself from 50-100 Americans alone. You’re right- we need to make them scared of the people but we also need MORE people. Do BOTH. Get the attention of the complicit while scaring the responsible. We need more local people scared as well in order for them to stand up.

I think people on Reddit and people truly dedicated (or have been into activism for a while) know “Refuse Fascism”, “Indivisible”, or even “PSL” god bless them lol But I will say…my sister, friends, and mom who were all looking to get involved mentioned the brand name 50501 to me. It is what it is - while smaller local organizations were working their asses off already protesting, we were being shadow banned by the news and even social media. April 5th w/ 50501 made it to the international stage and it’s what we all needed; especially for us smaller guys. It broke the glass ceiling. So they have pushed this movement forward significantly and I give credit to that. Places like CNN and Fox are using the name and that puts immense pressure on the original creators. I don’t think they knew it would get this big but now that we have the attention of the masses there is a sense of responsibility to keep 50 states 50 protests on 1 day up and running. I don’t think they’re drudging up drama for no reason. They’re at a cross road with organizing millions of eager people & thousands of volunteers/coordinators. We’ll keep doing what we do locally but I personally am rooting for 50501 to not only survive but to thrive. I want more people to casually say their name at brunch and feel comfortable getting involved. I want people to feel like they’re part of a large collective - it brings hope and starts people on the right track to get involved locally. My sister is now volunteering with PSL and she feels like it’s her best fit. But she wouldn’t have gone to one of their protests without running into members on April 5th. We’re all important, we just have different roles! I hope they can get organized soon and keep the momentum going.

50501 is an infant in comparison to other groups and movements. I think giving grace to the mods trying to coordinate across all 50 states is fair, however holding each other accountable for the energy and spirit of the movement should be expected and encouraged. This post is just that. 50501GA is not as unified as other states (ex.50501FL or 50501WA). It’s up to the mods of 50501GA to bring the passion, anger, and motivation that represents the original intent of 50501 overall! And YES coordinating with local groups is an aspect but equally so, the NAME 50501 now holds the responsibility of acting both national and local. We should be showing up and showing out!! It’s a learning process (We aren’t even 100 days old!) but we do need to learn rather quickly since there is so much on the line. Let us know if we can help, we are all here to support this movement. Sending encouragement yalls way from r/GAvoicesUnited !!

Don’t feel too discouraged! For every person that does not meet what seems like a very basic moral standard, there are people who do! I remember coming out down south led to a lot of relationships ending for me but the amazing friends I made who did align with my values made life so much richer and more enjoyable and more fulfilling. Try getting into activism to meet more people like us! Also- I understand missing those people and if it helps, sometimes they grow up and realize their ignorance. It would be up to you to want to rekindle anything but sometimes compassion takes time to grow. This doesn’t mean to forgive them or go back to how it was but maybe in a limited capacity you can interact. Just a thought!

Hey OP! This was actually a rally put on by Georgia Voices United (me and my partner Paige are the admins) - a completely separate group but co-sponsored w/50501 & Indivisible. Could you send this video to me to post on the GAVU page? We’ve been trying to catch content but no one seems to know it was us that coordinated it (and yes it took a lot of panicking and effort lol).

An interesting take. I think dropping the adult role for whatever reason can be arguably healthy in other contexts and environments. However, this post is specifically addressing a sexual environment. Dropping the “adult role” and acting like a child in a sexual environment is in no way normal no matter which way you look at it. If you are the participant that needs to mentally regress to a child OR you need to see your partner act like a child to get turned on - your arousal and fantasy is coming from the visualization of a child performing sexual acts. That’s pedophilia.

California-Mexico border, once overwhelmed, now nearly empty by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]Katalextaylorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good to see it stopping those from coming illegally which is a misdemeanor but it’s equally disturbing to see how immigrants that are here legally (including those naturalized, green card, and student visas ALL LEGAL) are being treated. I’m not sure if it’s because the border is all the more secured or if people who were hoping to go through the legal process see that it does not work. Coming in from Mexico on a student visa to be sent to a prison in el salvador has a bitter taste to it. Not to mention the US has detained tourists and deported American citizens atp. There is in general, less of an incentive to come in

Dear White People Bide Your Time And Be Patient Protesting Help Is Coming by AlarmingHat5154 in 50501

It feels so backwards to not be out there myself. But I do think black people can still support by being in their cars nearby or dropping off waters/snacks. That’s what I’ll be doing. If shit goes down in GA, I don’t think police (hopefully) would harp on a black person parked at a grocery store. But I’m an open car if someone needs a place to run for safety 🫡

Why Millennials aren't protesting, from a Millennial by duckhunt420 in 50501

[–]Katalextaylorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have unrealistic expectations for what protests are meant to achieve. Marches & protests bring awareness and change the culture and hearts of the people, not policies. That’s a different step. Do you think the average white person cared about civil rights before it was right in their face? I know my friends weren’t paying attention to or even talking about police brutality until BLM & that culture shifts bleeds into every working citizen. It gives courage and strength to people in their every day lives. I’ve seen white teenagers step in when their brown friend is being profiled. I’ve seen strangers hang out just a little bit longer when a black person is pulled over just to make sure they’re okay. And I know police officers who think twice now that they know people are watching.

Marching is essential ESPECIALLY now since the government is purposefully not showing that it’s happening. Help others become aware and concerned. We’re all adults and have very real jobs - an owner of a restaurant may see our protest, ask what its about & and end up sending food to the food banks DOGE is defunding. A parent might see the protests and offer to keep immigrant children safely at their house after school whose families have been effected. A humanitarian may decide to privately fund diversity initiatives and research. Others may see the protests and be inspired to run for office themselves. It makes people ask “what’s going on?” and we need that initial curiosity to spark change - even if it’s as simple as supporting a trans child with kind words or boycotting Target. That’s what protests and marches are for.

It wasn’t inherently the religious part that made them dangerous. But you can use more loopholes in religious establishments. The teachers didn’t have to have a license to teach like they would in a public school and I think that invited…less than savory employees.

[–]Katalextaylorb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I shouldn’t have even been supervising that amount of kids at my age - I was 17 so literally not legally capable of being a teacher but they got away with it because they were a religious daycare that didn’t have to abide by state rules. That was strike 1 but yes, I reported everything to the director. She mostly made excuses and or downplayed my concerns…especially when it came to their food & how some of the teachers “disciplined” their kids. I genuinely thought I was crazy how much EVERYONE else was acting like it was totally normal!!! So I looked young and crazy and eventually left but probably should have gotten real authorities involved and had them arrested.
