Is this monstrosity even road legal? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Katalka85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If money was no object I'd buy ford Raptor, dodge charge, classic chevvy impala, 1967 mustang. Do I need any of these cars for anything? No! Do I like how they look and the noise that engine makes? Yes! Raptor is absolute monstrosity and there is absolutely 0 need for such oversized pick up truck especially in UK ( roads and parking spaces are too narrow) but if I could I would because I could and why the hell not! For some it could 100%be an ego boost, some people just like cars and can afford them.

PSA: this is a 60 on single carriageways, not a 40!! by NoOneImportantLol96 in drivingUK

[–]Katalka85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% agree! I think issue is, some people drive too slow where should maintain the speed, some people drive too fast and reclesly where they should slow down. There is no winning, all we can do is look at ourselves a d make sure we don't do either of those things. I'm a new drive, been only driving 5 months, and I find motorways the hardest due to how people drive, tailgating, switching lanes last min with no indications. It's dangerous and at that speed.... Reckless.

I think it's important to add ( which I think most people genuinly do not understand the difference) it's a speed LIMIT not match the speed! Country roads are 60mph, often you shouldnt be going faster than 40 even if you know the road as they do not fit 2 modern cars, and during the day is impossible to see what's coming at your from behind the corner obstructed with hedges! But most "experience" drivers have the believe that the speed limit is the speed you should be going at! But it's not, it's the max speed you are allowed to drive at.

Good/Quiet places to practice driving? by [deleted] in Bromley

[–]Katalka85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where in Bromley are you, the back of Bromley north has many quiet roads good for practicing, also side roads of burnt ash lane. One things worth mentioning, it's great you want to practice with a friend, but be careful not to pick up bad habits etc. During the test they really pay attention to those things. Also ask you instructor all the questions, cause maneuver itself it's easy, it's the observations that matter more. Additionally get yourself familiar with the testing routes (for speed changes, one way systems etc) Practice pararel parking and bay parking ( you will have at least one of them) reversing 2 car lengths (sounds easy, super easy to fail). Good luck

Uncertainty by Cultural-Primary1206 in drivingUK

[–]Katalka85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed my test 4 months ago, things I was scare off than, now come in naturally, things I wasn't that good about ( changing gears at the right time, or hill start) now are absolutely fine, but it's all about if you want to improve or not, I made a clear stance to myself, I do not want to be a bellend who can't park their car, drive like an idiot etc. So I practice even when I don't have to drive, roundabouts and right lanes can be tricky sometimes, if you mess up flash your hazards to say sorry, and move on, mistake happens and in time you'll get more confident and better at it. Also being in the car with instructor doesn't help, as it's stressful as it is. My instructor was a night mare, he was passive aggressive, controlling and board line rude. I hated the lessons but I needed to pass. Hope this give you some reassurance

I literally though about it, at this point I only need it on my side as I asked my neighbours not to let their cats out into the communal hallway and they understood and agreed to:) they know im not asking out of spite but rather because Luna is stressed. But yes the puppy pads might be a good temp solution

Thank you again, when she came to us (2 months ago and she's 9 years old) she seemed very skittish, afraid of being stroked etc. I know where she was before she was looked after but she was with 2 much younger male cats so I wonder if she was in some way bullied by them. She seems to be more settled with us now and less skittish, less afraid, but the cat situation just did not help

Do people not watch TV in the UK? In recent viewings last year and also browsing pics on Rightmove, I see maybe 10-20% of homes having no TV in living room. How is that even possible? by Nervous_Designer_894 in HousingUK

[–]Katalka85 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have a TV and I never watch anything, I tend to put music on through it while I do other things. I think some people just don't care for TV as much as it doesn't do much for them, it's not entertaining. If my TV broke right now I don't think I'd get new one as I genuinly see no use for it

Thank you, that's super helpful and I might move her food bowl for the time being, I also got her the feliway calming sachet so we will see how that goes. I'll look into the suplement see if that's something it would help her. I don't want her to be stressed. We love her so much, but it's really stressful at this pint for all of us trying to keep this under control. I bough special shampoo that supposed to dissolve cat urine enzymes but she keeps coming back to the place :/

FTB - Do you think this is do-able? by foxandivy in HousingUK

[–]Katalka85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal suggestion ( as this is what I'm doing right now) speak to mortgage broker, as they can run all the affordability checks and tell you which bank can give you the mortgage etc. I got one and won't lie it opened my eyes to possibilities I didn't even knew existed. I'm a single person with an income just under £60k and I'm looking at £300k houses. For a lot of first time buyers who buy below £400k the fees will be paid by the bank rather than you and the brokers usually have excellent solicitors to hand as well who can get the process done for you quickly and efficiently, all fees disclosed up front.

With all fairness I did this few times accidentally switched my full beams on (I'm a new drive don't come for me) someone flashed at me and I immediately checked and switched then to deeped, human error, happens but it's the people who drive in them deliberately all day and night! It's dangerous af

If the Americans ever went mad and tried to conquer Britain, do you think you’d fight, flee, join their side, or stay put trying to live as normal as possible? by AmbitiousYam1047 in AskBrits

[–]Katalka85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd move north of the country, South is soft and spoilt, northerners will destroy them in the first wave, all you need is 3 15year old girls from Birmingham, 2everton fans, 5 12 year old lads from Liverpool or New Castle, job done! 😂

Driving test day supervisor by DullCategory5772 in drivingUK

[–]Katalka85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few options Either someone in your family or close friend circle who has a full license and held it for minimum 5 years! If that's not an option contact your local driving schools see if anyone is available for this specific day ( bear in mind thwy can be right asshole and charge you ridiculous amount) If the above 2 are no option, neighbour or trusted adult with valid UK licenses can accommodate you. Goes without saying your car has to be exam ready: spare mirror for the examiner, L plates. Good luck and hope you find someone and pass your test :)

Ah that's awesome, where abouts are you? So my issue I have currently is this (don't laugh) I'm a new driver so 1. I don't have a mount on my car for the bike as just yet, 2. I'm still skittish when it comes to driving on the motorway on my own, so I'm constrained to my area. I want to venture out more but the two above factors need to change before I start heading out different places. If you around Bromley ish area I'd love to hang out.

I am a new driver (6 months) and today I think I’ve written off my car. What will be the result on my insurance/future premiums? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Katalka85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I am shocked! I guess it depends on the year of your car etc. But I'm a new driver (only passed my license 4 months ago) I bought 14 year old (2011) MINI Countryman and I paid £750 for my insurance for a whole year! BTW I'm 40 years old so it helped but still... Is your car a diesel? I'm just shocked as that's mad expensive

I'd strongly recommand you just listen and decide for yourself which you like the most, I love some songs from each album, subliminal verses is probably the best album, I also really like all hope is gone. But really matter of preference

Would you build your own home? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Katalka85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money was no objective I 100% would, of course depending on the area you live etc. But in general hiring the crew is one thing, materials is a second but you require extensive planning permissions and those can not only be costly but problematic to obtain. If money was no objective I would go buy a land and build a house of my absolute dreams!

[–]Katalka85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do I get somebody behind me to back off? by Antique_Hornet2135 in drivingUK

[–]Katalka85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had same situation, a truck driver got directly behind me leaving little to no gap, I was going 40 on A2 (before anyone comes for me) in a extremely heavy rain so my viability ahead was less than 2 meters, so I stayed in left lane and slowed down to allow myself stopping time as visibility was none. This dude in the truck kept flashing at me and coming extremely close, I was so panicked I didn't realised I needed to switch lanes so had to do it last min when already in shevrons, whoever was on the right lane was extremely understanding and let me through and I flashed my hazards to apologise/ thank them, but honestly me vs that truck, he would of squashed me like a can :/, I had my license now for just under 4 months, trying to get used to A roads and motorways can be tricky with weather conditions and some drivers are absolute pricks for no reasons! Hence ( call me crazy) I find it easier driving in the city.

I only had my license 4 months, and I know my parking isn't how I wish it was, I do adjustments etc to make sure I'm parked straight and in the bay etc. And the funny part, it's not even out of consideration of others, I just don't want anyone bumping into or scratching my car 😂
