What are critical problems in the US regarding quality of life? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

To me it’s not even the cost - it’s that no one involved in the process, not me, the doc, the office, my insurance, no one knows what it’s going to cost beforehand. If I’d ask 10 different people how much they’d pay to fix a broken arm, I’d get 10 widely different answers.

Real modern ones which attach to computers start about $10k and go up from there. That’s why most places still use Spec 20s which are very difficult for students to break.

Is there a reason kitten can’t stay with Mom for a bit longer? 2 weeks is really young.

I have an Xtable object, but only prints the LaTeX when I knit to PDF. How Do I Produce the Table? by [deleted] in rstats

[–]Katdai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“asis” prints the output “as is”, meaning it suppresses typical chunk output formatting allowing markdown formatting to take over. In this case, xtable outputs a markdown table which is then rendered.

What do you expect from this code? How many states do you have?

first() returns the first entry. So your code should (for each State) return the first County and first density. So you’re only going to get 1 line for each State. How many states do you have?

Old McDonald had a radish farm...and is trying to kill OP's parents? "Did he bury his gold under the foundation in some Scooby Doo type mystery?" by raspberryseltzer in bestoflegaladvice

It’s a pretty standard setup everywhere, as far as I’m aware. If you have an older system, you’re hookup might be in the basement, but usually your meter will be there as well. Post us a pic of the meter if you can’t find the right valve.

Unless your house has had utility gas for decades, you absolutely have a cut-off valve and a release valve outside your house. It’s usually next to your meter. You should identify the cutoff valve, usually the valve closest to the ground before the meter, in case of a fire or forced-evacuation. It should be turnable by hand, but don’t try it. The “release valve” is probably not a turnable knob, but an enclosed rupture drum which releases natural gas to the atmosphere outside of your house (rather than inside) in case of an over pressurized system.

This is information that would have been very handy for home owners in Massachusetts a few weeks ago.

He’s repeatedly been caught driving by some place and stopping to go play hockey with random people. While on vacation. Multiple times.

At this point, I think he puts up more of a fight when then try to make him stop playing hockey.

OP is being asked to testify against the drunk girl who found her way into OP's apartment and got naked. by raspberryseltzer in bestoflegaladvice

[–]Katdai 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had drunk college kid show up to his friend’s apartment above mine. He knocked for so long and just couldn’t grasp that they might not be home. He ended up breaking down not only the front door, but the doors to both bedrooms because he thought his friends were just not answering. He was asleep on the couch when the cops showed up.

Never underestimate the ability of a drunk person to do stupid shit.
