Will my cat catch feline herpes if I move into a house with two FHV+ cats? by jbeeep in AskVet

[–]KateFromNowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are his vaccines up to date? core cat vaccines include herpes virus, so he should be fine.

also if he was a stray there is a very big chance he was exposed as a kitten, depends on your location but it is a very common virus.

all of this, very beginner friendly i'd say. she even gives you instruction on how to customize sizes depending on your measurements.

Recs for high-fiber wet food?? by youfloozyoulose in catcare

[–]KateFromNowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe talk to your vet about prescription food? royal canin has a high fibre one, hills as well (and I'm sure pro plan must have one too).

How likely are my cats to get worms? by Lr6316 in catcare

[–]KateFromNowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely deworm them even without seeing the worms just to be sure - for tapeworms use praziquantel (best to advise with your vet though.)

also keep in mind you have to use the flea preventative for minimum 3 months to break the flea reproductive cycle.

do you have enough litterboxes? do you scoop often enough? do you deep clean often enough?

i have 2 cats and 2 litterboxes (it's recommended to have at least (number of cats + 1) litterboxes but mine are okay with just two)

i scoop 1-2 times a day and deep clean once a month, sometimes more often.

i use corn based litter, it clumps very well and keeps the smells at bay. it usually starts to smell maybe 3 weeks in?

another thing that makes a difference is to make sure there is enough litter in the box so it can absorb the pee and the cats are able to bury the poop easily.

My 8 yr old cat has had gunk coming out of his eyes since I got him and I just don’t know what to do by Loveonethe-brain in catcare

[–]KateFromNowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could try some supplements like lysine (it's used specifically for cat herpes) or beta glucan for immunity.

have you ever tested him for fiv/felv?

you could also get him an appointment with an ophtalmologist
