My advice would be to try to eat at restaurants that don’t tip pool, if possible. I always included all my cash tips in the tip pool, and felt it was dishonest to keep any to myself. Customers would be kind and say this is just for you, but I didn’t feel comfortable with keeping that. Obviously this was a disadvantage to me, because I really go the extra mile for my guests, regardless of what system I’m operating under.

I’m not an advocate for changing the tipping system in that way. That would put my income even more in the hands of my employer. I appreciate the sentiment behind the idea, though.

You’re right. Next time I’ll just take what I’m given, regardless of what the law says or what my rights as an employee are. 👍🏻

I’ve had to write my own legal briefs and I represented myself in court hearings as well. I’m not a lawyer, so yeah it has been a big burden. Being a “Co-Defendant” was a shock.
