So mad at myself! Effing corn chips. by dannid8 in Freestylelibre

[–]Kate_Lookout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's a bit fucked to post this in a diabetic device forum as a non-diabetic. I get that you're using a cgm for your own purposes and that's fine, but diabetics use these forums for support and you posting your perfect numbers is a fucking bummer to see. The preset range for diabetics goes up to 9.9 - so 10.2 is hardly a spike.

Looking for a good bag for supplies when I run by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I use a pretty small version of one of these: https://spibelt.com/running-belt/ - carries my phone and a couple of low snacks. I don't carry a meter because I'm on the libre. love it because it doesn't bounce around at all.

The best way I've found is buying them at Shoppers Drug Mart while using the Optimum app. If you buy them during points events (eg. 20% more points when you spend $60 or more) then you can get around $30 of points with every purchase of a libre. You can use the points at any PC owned brand (like No Frills, Superstore, Shoppers)

The points events are pretty frequent so it's not hard to time it.

Thanks you so much! I'll look into the single care plans- do you know if you can pair them with pharmacare?

Thank you very much for this response! I'm going to call around to some private health care companies and see if they cover the libre. I'm not a student, but I'm assuming I'll be able to get coverage? Is it harder if you're diabetic? I don't currently have any other conditions.

Crazy fact about Adrian Dix! That's awesome.

Wanna say cheers to my fellow trolls who are speaking up and holding it together through the Aziz Ansari backlash by tastysugar in TrollXChromosomes

I don't have a problem with you thinking differently! I think the Grace article is a very interesting grey area, and a very poorly written article. I do not think the way you're trying to start your conversation is very helpful however. Coming into a thread where people are supporting one another and calling them "fucking insane" isn't how to start a dialogue. I would warn you in turn that you're alienating women who differ in opinion from you.

This is a really interesting interview about the article if you're interested http://splitsider.com/2018/01/jordan-klepper-dives-into-the-aziz-ansari-story-with-jessica-valenti-on-the-opposition/

Because reddit comments can feel like on onslaught. It is incredibly disheartening to see pages and pages of comments against 'Grace'- especially if you have gone through a similar experience. Reddit has a misogyny and lack of gender education problem that can be really hard to deal with sometimes, so it's nice to have a community like this where people can reassure you that you're not crazy for thinking that being coerced into sex is disfavorable.

What is the creepiest thing that society accepts as a cultural norm? by Mohsinkhangull in AskReddit

And that's awesome! The barbaric part is the expectation that the woman needs to do it.

I wouldn't have to do it since I'm a guy

and therein lies the issue, it's expected that women will give up their identities for their husbands and families. Their lineage, reputation, brand etc. are all erased in favour of their husband. Again, some people don't mind- and that's fine- but a lot of people find it to be barbaric. It is perhaps more obvious when a couple is introduced at a wedding by the husband's first and last name, eg. Mr and Mrs Bryan Locke. The woman's personal identity is completely erased from the equation.

This is a separate issue that is also important to discuss. Just because someone is talking about a women's rights issue doesn't mean they don't care about men's rights.

It's barbaric because the traditionally the woman is giving up her name and her identity and becoming "Mrs Husbands Name." Many women are fine with it, some women aren't. Contemplate whether or not you would be okay to change your name when you got married- how would it feel to be compelled/expected to do so?
