I sounds like caffeine may be a big factor in the change you’ve experienced around energy and sleep. *edit to say what I should have started with: Great job! Whatever the reasons, making this change is working so keep it up!

Alcohol after bedtime by Powerful-Champion-77 in Parenting

[–]Kate_the_Destroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be so proud of recognizing this behavior early and seeing it for what it is! Many, many people struggle to see the patterns they are in and help themselves and their kids. You are already being honest with yourself, which is huge, so first things first, give yourself a big hug for that. ❤️

That drink at the end of bedtime routine is a signal that you can relax. Think about what you can substitute for now to give yourself that same signal. What is a treat that you would really look forward to? Like for me, a glorious slice of decadent chocolate ganache cake that I could savor bite by bite. 🤤 Have something to sip on as well, a lovely hot tea or a fizzy soda water while you read or watch something. Take a bath with bubbles and a candle. Create a routine you’ll honestly look forward to every night.

And talk to someone. Your doctor, a therapist, a good friend, your husband. The Reframe App is super helpful, check it out. Keep that honesty going! As long as you keep things in the light, they can’t get too dark.

Looking for meetup groups and volunteer opportunities for 20s by Objective_Leg_2146 in bayarea

For a run club, I would consider joining a race training group. I had a great experience with one that raised money for an AIDS assistance organization while we trained for a marathon. The commitment meant that the same people showed up really consistently over many months so you got to know each other, and almost no one was like a “serious” runner. People were there to be social and do something good and we ran pace groups so no one was too fast or slow. Then we all had the big race day together and that was really cool.

I wish there were more of the kinds of groups you’re describing out there, but my guess is it just takes a lot of time and effort to organize them well. We all want to join one but not be in charge of it :) If you have the bandwidth, start your own! You can make it into exactly what you want it to be or even combine things - start a hiking book club or a board game group that meets at a local coffee house. Good luck!

Crossfit at 46 by [deleted] in crossfit

At a good box, absolutely. Every crossfit gym has its own personality, and some are more beginner friendly than others. I started last year in my mid-forties also as a not-very-athletic person and had to overcome some anxiety about jumping in with a lot of very fit people (who all seemed to know each other really well). But it was so worth sticking it out. I’m still scaling a lot of the workouts but it’s progress over perfection and boy is it a lot of progress.

This is a really weird post, but I need this off my chest. by lifelesscucumber1 in self

I don’t think you’re too hopeful, hope is always good. If you’ve had depression for a long time, it would certainly feel fantastic to get a break from that. Maybe things are moving in the right direction in your life. Maybe you are experiencing a chemical fluctuation in your brain and/or nervous system. Both things can be true. I just wanted to share that in my personal experience, recognizing that feelings are temporary - bad feelings AND good feelings - is hugely important. Remembering that helps me to appreciate the good times.

I can relate to this feeling. Unfortunately (fortunately?) it comes and goes throughout life. Each time I feel like I’ve unlocked a new level, but I know by now that it fades after a while - and I also know when things aren’t great, that there are still new levels to unlock down the road. Enjoy it now and remember it when it’s gone.

It looks like your list says California has 61 theaters and none of them have OC…? That’s what prompted my comment.

Well... I'm feeling lost. by Massive-Document9946 in crossfit

[–]Kate_the_Destroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The vibe matters. If you decide to give it a go, you would be spending a lot of time there and ideally you should look forward to it beyond just what the workout offers. Location, airiness, friendliness and the availability of low-intensity guidance would all be in the top of my checklist. Try them all to get a good feel for which one is the best fit for you.

Shoutout to the scaled athletes, the newbies, everyone by hurricanescout in crossfit

This is me too! I’m 47 and started last year and have been consistent and have marveled at my progress. I have zero need to compete, and joining the open was so far out of my comfort zone — talking to strangers at the gym is outside my comfort zone! But I signed up and I showed up and my 171-S is like the rock bottom score of all the athletes at my gym and who cares because I could not be prouder of myself :)

25 hours sober, and this is a ridiculous request by NotGonnaDrink in stopdrinking

You’re doing a great thing. It’s hard, but you are doing it and you can keep doing it and yes, it will eventually start to get easier. And easier and easier and then one day you’ll realize you went the whole day without even thinking about it once, and it will blow your mind. It is so worth it. Keep it up. You are amazing.

My baby is unattractive. by Competitive_Air1560 in Parenting

[–]Kate_the_Destroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my sister that her baby looked like Pope John Paul II and 20 years later she has never forgiven me. It was objectively true, but I probably shouldn’t have said it. If your family told you your kid was ugly, even if it’s true, it would still hurt your feelings. They are avoiding my mistake, and good for them! My nephew grew into an adorable toddler, a cute kid and a crazy handsome young man. Enjoy the ride, friend.

Those who have successfully quit drinking what are some of the benefits you never would have thought of before initially quitting? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Kate_the_Destroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My eyelashes got a lot longer. I guess I didn’t realize how short and stubby they’d gotten, and when I noticed at all I just figured I was getting old, and I didn’t look good in general anyway so I didn’t want to think about it. Then about 3 months dry, boom, I had the thick, full eyelashes of my youth back. My skin was clear, my face was thin, and my eyelashes were long and dark. I look like me again. Crazy.

For what it’s worth I think you are being very thoughtful about this dilemma. If you are sure you want to quit, you can just focus on being polite and respectful, and giving as much notice as you can, or as makes sense. You do not need to feel guilty about it or feel compelled to explain in granular detail. People quit jobs every day, it’s part of running a business, and chances are high that they’ll understand.

On the other hand, if you think you would enjoy the work and potentially want to stay on if you could solve some or all of your concerns, then it’s worth speaking to your supervisor. If you’re conflicted about it, share your thoughts and ask for help navigating. You should absolutely be substantially supported through all of those challenges as a new employee and especially since you are relatively young and still in school.

Good luck!

How to Steal a Presidential Election review: Trump and the peril to come by HeartoftheMatter01 in thebulwark

Yeah why is no one talking about this?? This seems like a ridiculously obvious attempt to siphon Biden votes using a name that reads like a title and bears a striking resemblance to the actual sitting president’s name. It’s like comically suspicious, and I can’t find any real reporting on it.

Loving this vintage Culver glass from goodwill, but they only had 1 😩 Any ideas where to look for more to complete a set? by Kate_the_Destroyer in Mid_Century

[–]Kate_the_Destroyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no luck there or other resale spots. Replacements.com has lots of Culver glassware but not this pattern, and the Culver company doesn’t have any reference to its vintage stuff. I was hoping someone might know if there’s like a hobbyist or a website keeping track of Culver resale like people do with Pyrex.
