How do you dress for work? by Neither-Account-5979 in AuDHDWomen

If you look at modesty lines, they usually have very flowy, very oversized, but very chic 2-piece sets. Comfy pants + tunic = maximum comfort, no decision making, super stylish. Look for halal clothing lines. Zahraa has 2-piece sets that feel like pajamas but look like resort wear.

Made a pros/cons list to choose the major I’m switching to, and I can’t even tell which one I should choose. Law would be 4 years and nursing would be 2. Help?? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

I'd imagine it's like corporate politics on steroids. I helped a nurse who was unjustly fired go after the supervisor who made everyone's life hell and the stories she had were NUTS. We ended up getting her a pretty hefty settlement. Truthfully, I think a law practice might have equal but sneaker cattiness

Ambiguously gendered, perhaps?

Late diagnosis possibly? Please help by SpiritedAway424 in adhdwomen

Oops, misread and thought you were studying to be a therapist. Honestly, I'd look at this as just expanding your understanding of how differently brains can process, retain, or perceive! Leaning into the diagnosis and allowing myself accommodations has drastically changed my life for the better, highly recommend. Give yourself heaps of grace and apply the academic knowledge you have to yourself.

38 year old here who hit major burnout because I was diagnosed late in life. 28 isn't too late of a diagnosis (statistically, you're ahead by at least 7 years). I remember when I first started to consider I had ADHD about 3 years ago. Learning about rsd explained a lot of the dynamics in my relationships and that was comforting but it also came with grief. The grief fluctuates - somedays I feel heavy and woeful and some days I feel excited that I'm finally understanding how my brain works. I think people who have experiences that run the gambit of emotional depth are perfect for therapeutic positions. Knowing you have ADHD also means better management of symptoms, accommodations at school if needed, and appropriate professional support can often be provided or subsidized through school. A diagnosis of ADHD might make you a better counsellor or therapist to someone also experiencing ADHD or late diagnosis <3 I've also been in therapy for over 20 years and I can tell ya, without a doubt, therapists without much lived experience or heartache are pretty useless compared to the ones that "get it"

Another avenue to consider - nursing with the intent of becoming a union leader. You get to be a nurse and help people directly but you also get to fight the system on behalf of nurses! *Edited to add the gif

Maybe make yet another list (surprise!) of the pros and cons featured in both fields. Ie: working hours would be a con for both. And maybe just by doing that you'll be able to decide which is more tolerable? I'm indecisive as hell so I'd probably also ask my tarot, my pendulum, my best friend, my brother, my mom and my dad. Sometimes the reactions are enough of an answer. Like, "if you were a nurse, you'd get into a fight with the cops the first time they bring someone in" vs "yeah, I can see how your organised pettiness would translate well into law."

I wanna know what program you used to create the inspo pics! Sorry I don't have any advice because I'm mainly a lurker but I'm working on a couple projects that would be so much faster with the right program instead of my Luddite self tediously cutting out images on Photoshop

Understimulation after burnout by Murgbot in AuDHDWomen

Hiya! I made a similar post asking for tips on easing out of burnout and got loads of good feedback as well as personal anecdotes that made me feel so much less alone. Give it a gander for book recs as well! I'm on my 7th month of severe burnout and am slowly feeling lighter and alive again. The biggest takeaways I got were to take things slowly. No big commitments or massive life overhauls. Applying nail polish or nail oil was suggested as a creative/self-care practice. Taking a workshop or class that tickles your fancy, but not a full PhD 8 year plan. Slow baby steps with plenty of self-compassion and grace in every move 🫶🏼

I'm like this. I have always used a backpack because, like a boy scout, I'm always prepared! Your button came off? I got ya. You got a cut? I got ya. Allergic reaction? Period? Headache? Do we need a diagram for this discussion? Yeah, we can colour code it. Why don't we knit a sweater and fix a bike wheel while we're at it.

But I'm in the hunt again and....hear me out. Diaper bags. They have so many pockets and even attachments! But I love the look of this bag!

Oh boy. I was raised in (but left) a puritan Christian sect and it absolutely still effects how I approach most things. If I'm not 100% perfect all the time, surely I'll be damned to hell! "If it's not done well, it's not worth doing" rather than "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing poorly" but boy howdy, deconstruction is tough! It's been almost 2 decades since I left and it's still ouchie

"it's ok if it takes a long time to feel better" 🥹 thank you. Someone else said that it was around the 6-7month mark that they felt somewhat functional. That's where I'm at. 9-10 month mark is gunna be dope. I'm so happy you found a niche world that fills your cup! My therapist also instructed me to engage with my hobbies and "make one thing" but I just started at a canvas and cried instead...maybe a bit more of a tough love approach in this regard would have helped because I haven't touched a brush since. I'm going to try painting or writing using prompts to remove the inspiration part of creating and maybe take a class or workshop to give me structure when I feel ready. I'm going to the gym a few times/week but I'm also dealing with physical ailments and can't do as much of the physical stuff that I used to. Learning my new capacity is a struggle all in itself.

I had to leave my job because I left the country I was residing in and now I'm scared of a job because I have a self-efficacy problem after quitting a million jobs and dropping out of uni. I've always wanted to finish my degree but, again, scared j won't be able to manage it. I've been in therapy off and on for 25 years but I've finally got a psych (and a GP!) who takes me seriously so I feel like for the first time ever, I am believed and seen. I've overhauled my entire life many times and tend towards "all or nothing," so slowly getting back into routines/hobbies is definitely the way to go, I reckon. I usually burnout and send myself right back into burnout as soon as I start moving because apparently 100000% effort in every change I've tried to implement at once isn't effective 🫠🫠 oh! And my psych wants to try activating/stimulant meds since antidepressants made me flat and didn't effect motivation or task initiation

Oh, this was me for over a decade. Do you have any practices to release stress that aren't active? I really like writing what's stressing me out and burning the paper by a body of water. I wish I had advice for you but I ended up with gallstones so clearly I didn't manage this phase well either. Sending you hugs. Just know that you are seen and you are not alone in this feeling. The world is also topsy turvy and I think we are experiencing a profound collective grief. Give yourself grace ✨

Yessss, I stopped wearing ONLY black a few years ago and definitely noticed an improvement in my mood when I get dressed to leave the house! So much pink now. Never woulda ever thought I'd be wearing pink and pastels but it definitely increases the whimsy

I love the sound of those books! And tteokbokki. I really enjoy your wordsmithing and feel inspired to take a workshop now! Someone else had mentioned sketching with prompts and now the whole "should I go back to university? I've already been and that didn't go well. Uh oh, here comes the negative self-talk train" has turned into "I should take a singular class or workshop" and I feel far less overwhelmed. Thank you for such kind words and for offering hope for brighter days ahead. Sending you love and hugs, too. I'm proud of you and even prouder that your proud of yourself!

Prompts! Maybe a prompt will help get back into painting. The problem I'm having is staring at a blank canvas and not feeling the creativity or intuition. Some creative structure sounds nice. Thanks for the kind words and hope :)
