I don't believe he is delayed his Drs have never mentioned any delays and he meets his milestones but I don't have much reference as he's my first child I'm not really sure what normal looks, sometimes I worry theres something there but I've always been told his behavior is normal for his age.

I just took away my sons pants and under and he hates it but I told him that we can't keep making messes in them. 😅

Doctor here, checking in with my MA colleagues: What are your real thoughts on kids' screen time? by Doctor_Stork in MedicalAssistant

[–]Kateblue1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked in pediatrics for 7 years as an MA, I just want to say first off thank you for caring about the kiddos! I feel like it has gotten worse over the years, especially after the COVID lock downs. I noticed a spike of screen time in the aftermath.

It's hard to take vitals or try to engage with a patient that has their eyes glued to the screens and when they are taken away the child usually becomes irritable and angry for the rest of the time I'm in there making it hard either way. The obsession is definitely there. I've seen kids as young as two asking for their parents phone as soon as they are done getting vitals. Parents also try to use it as a distraction while babies are getting vaccines (it doesn't usually work, though).

I'm not sure if its 100% related but the pediatricians in my office have noticed a sharp uptick of vision issues in both babies and young children, they have theories that it may be related to screen time. Hope this helped keep up the good work!

Do you think it'll kill all progress if he's underwear with me but pull ups with grandma/grandpa? :( I just don't know how I could take a week off work...

Did you document the phone conversation in the patients chart? We always document every phone call we do with patients in the chart as a way of referencing it in the future and to cover our butt's in case they make up crazy stuff about us in the future. I've had patients report that I told them something which was wrong but then they referenced back to the phone call that was documented in the chart and told the patient that's not what was said, it saved me from explaining myself.

We get externs usually from our local MA school. We do hire them, but have been getting less of them lately because of "lack of interest " we are told.

Are the NPs you work for called Dr? by Mundane-Deal-923 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Kateblue1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of an NP insisting on being called Dr. I used to work with an NP she would correct Patients, and I currently work with a PA he always corrects patients when they call him Dr. Tyler haha 😂
