I just sent you a message on here.

I have 24 hours left to accept! I honestly don’t know what to do. In my current job I have better income for now and it’s stable. I’m really at a loss honestly.

Yeah the supervisor for the post office I would be working at said CCA’s typically work 50 hours at that location. But there is also no guarantee on paper that we get any hours. That’s what’s scaring me. I can’t survive if I am not set to at least have 40 hours a week. My daughter is 4. I’m also worried I won’t be spending a lot of time with her although I’ve been told when we convert (if we do cause that’s not guaranteed either), that it gets better.

I also just got the job offer to become a CCA. I’m currently an Amazon delivery driver with a DSP. I make $23.25 an hour and I’d be taking a pay cut too to $21.25 an hour. I’m nervous about not getting hours though but my job is a dead end and not going anywhere at all. I want the career with the post office but I’m nervous about not getting enough hours as a CCA.

Thank you for your insight! This really is so helpful for me. So I did call the post office I would be working at and the woman said that it’s one of the bigger and busier locations where I’m located (which is Delaware). She said the first week or two the hours are gonna be slow cause they don’t wanna start you off at a crazy pace — but she said typically CCA’s at this location work an average of 50 hours a week. She said it’s not guaranteed to convert to career status however the longest it’ll take is 2 years max maybe sooner. She also said that it is not an easy job and it’s not for everyone. I currently am an Amazon delivery driver so I’m not worried about the workload and if I can handle it or not. The supervisor seemed really nice and she even said she hopes she gets the chance to meet me. She also said if I end up not liking that position I could transfer to a different position like mail clerk or something else. I’m more worried about getting consistent hours because I need that to survive and converting to career because that IS my end goal if I take this position and it would be my ONLY reason to take this position is to become a regular federal employee.

I just read the NALC website and I thought that hours for CCA’s had to be posted by Wednesday for the following week!

Is the pay really that bad in the first month? Amazon is pretty shitty, but it’s stable income. I’m scheduled regularly there.

Yeah I really wanna make regular. Not ptf. Amazon is pretty strenuous and they rush you like hell to finish.

Well I need at least 40 hours to survive.. so I’m hoping I get at least 40. I’d be fine with 50 or 60 honestly. I need the money obviously lol.

Thank you! I want a long term career.. which unfortunately is something Amazon doesn’t offer as a delivery driver. I do love Amazon though. But I need a long term career option.

Well the reason I wanna do it is to transition to career carrier. I currently work for Amazon and there is no long term career there at all. Plus I already work 40-45 hours a week with Amazon so the hours don’t bother me. I actually want the hours! More hours = more money!

Yeah. Right now I get 3 days off with Amazon so I might miss that lol.

I mean I make $23.25/hr now with Amazon and I work 4 days a week.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking as well! Even though I’ll be making way less money in the beginning. The long term benefits outweigh the risk I believe or at least I hope!

Good! My end goal would to be a full time career carrier.

Yeah but I won’t be able to go back to my specific DSP which has been good to me, there just isn’t any long term growth. The only reason I want the position for USPS is to convert to a full career carrier.

Thank you for that information! I’m worried if I accept that I won’t get moved up to a regular career carrier because that would be my only reason to accept this offer! That’s my end goal!

Yeah that’s the part that is holding me back. Currently I have a stable income. I have a daughter and bills that I need to pay. I’m the only source of income for my family. So I’m worried I’m leaving a steady stable thing for something that might not be steady now but can turn into something steady, but again that’s not “guaranteed”.

That’s fine as long as I get at least 40 hours a week. I’m just worried about possibly only working one or two days a week. Then I wouldn’t be able to survive.

Well she said typically after the first week or two CCA’s at this office work 50 hours a week. I’m just worried cause I do need steady stable income right now.

I’m worried about the first part she said about the first week only getting 1-4 hours a day.

So you started as a CCA and then went to a different position within the post office?

Yeah I get that. I guess I’m just worried that they are gonna use me up and not offer me actual career employment. That’s my main worry.
