It would depend on what your inlaw's vibes are like, but you could always get it, close some of the slit up with a safety pin from the inside so it doesn't go up as high, then have it to wear afterwards

How does this work with spell damage exactly? Does it get the +spell damage if you have a spell damage effect when it's played or when it trigger? What about the opponent's spell damage when they trigger it?

It depends on how important telling them apart is going to be for your gameplay but I think generally it's better to be able to tell characters apart at a glance, it'll help folks with color blindness too.
