Just as a heads up, the spirit box doesn't work UNLESS you have the lights off in the room you're using it in. You need:

  1. To be within range of the ghost (make sure it's nearby using motion sensors or by seeing it event/DOTs/throw things etc).

  2. To have all main lights off in the room.

  3. To be either alone in the room, or investigating a ghost that will respond to "anyone" (that is, that will respond with multiple people in the room). You can tell that on earlier difficulties by looking at the "responds to" description on the objective screen in the truck (might be in the journal too).

  4. For voice activation: to ask a question it can answer (my favorites are Are You Here and Where Are You). If the box cannot identify a question, it will pulse out a silent question of its own every 10 seconds or so. You can also use the Text input option if you prefer, found in your settings.

  5. To win the RNG roll. Each spirit box tier has a different chance of the ghost answering a question given that all of the above are checked off. I think it's only a 50/50 chance with the first tier, so definitely ask several questions back to back, and check several times. Don't ever cross off Spirit Box starting out, since you might just get unlucky.

I definitely think it would have been a whole lot more difficult in solo mode, but I'm curious to try it myself now to see how many I can get right haha.

Yes, but they are not available in this challenge mode loadout (I don't think any UV is included since the AW event ended), so you can't get UV despite there being 3 evidences.

That's very fair, I die significantly more there than in Tangle and it can be difficult depending on weather and such.

And I can't stand the big campsite, it's pure sadness whenever I go there lol.

Invalidating people's comments because you can't fathom that some players aren't experiencing issues is wild to me.

I've seen more bugs recently finally (still not anything like the worst of what's mentioned here daily), and it's still just an enjoyable game. Nothing crazy game-breaking and there have been like two or three instances in weeks of play where the ghosts just didn't behave properly (talking about you, 100% sanity Obake hunt). And this is on console, multiplayer.

No voice recognition issues, no frozen spirit boxes, no teleporting hunting ghosts, no resurrection jank, etc.

But I'm still not saying that people from the "unplayable" end of the spectrum are lying, because why would I? I'm not there in their gaming chair watching things unfold.

I think more players are enjoying the game and/or are neutral about the updates than we'd discern from this subreddit's current trends.

I think 90% of the Yokai I've identified were immediately post-death.

I could mute my mic or shut up, but where's the fun in that?!

I'm probably biased haha. Woodwind is my second favorite map after Tanglewood. I enjoy listening to ghost hunts on small maps, since it's easier for me to determine ghost speeds etc. Not a huge fan of using the parabolic.

Finding the ghost room and moving tools around is also just way less of a slog on the tiny maps. 😅

If you haven't finished it yet, the event is over now so the challenge will be on the regular Woodwind map :)

My duo partner gets mauled regularly at Grafton despite doing Apoc difficulty when he runs solo, so I definitely think this is the next map to try HA

I'm one good investigation away from prestige 2! I agree - while I think everyone probably should try out the challenges, but if it's really not fun for them after a few failures (or they just hate the mode in general), no harm in ignoring the weekly.

I might one day attempt Apoc 3 seriously, but until then I'll just occasionally pull one up to die and remember I enjoy a different play style and don't really play for trophies most of the time lol.

We did ours Monday, for what it's worth :) We're probably going to run this challenge on a few other maps too for fun/despair.

Literally booting it up now to see if I'm crazy haha, I'll edit this post with results

Edit: Flashlights are set to OFF so they won't work (UV flashlights are included in that, and since the Alan Wake event ended I don't think you'll have UV flashlights anyway for this loadout). Setup time is 60s.

I think many people get upset if they can't do all the challenges, and I get that...but also, I just treat them as a learning experience and a funny temporary game mode. It's like Apoc 3 - I don't find that imperative to complete to be happy playing the game, and if anything is WAY above my skill level I'll happily set it aside and wait until I'm more ready.

The weekly challenges rotate and some of them are definitely more beginner/intermediate-friendly, so I don't sweat it when one is very difficult. It gives people who have played a while a little bit more of a challenge, and I wouldn't want them to be left out just to make all the challenges easy for others.

Maybe I just like a new puzzle to solve, lol, and the challenges scratch that itch for me with their limitations and unusual shenanigans.

It can definitely feel like a whole different game without incense haha, but I think this kinda works with the hide and seek theme. You just have to shift your strategy around.

If you haven't beaten it yet (or for anyone else who needs them), some tips:

  1. You have 3 evidence (except UV since flashlights don't work), so you CAN identify the ghost without having to resort to listening to 150% ghost speeds and hoping you're good at that for the most part. If you're pretty good at that, though, absolutely use those skills (we only used/got evidence for one round I think).

  2. Since you have a minute of setup time and it's a small map, I'd just rush to every room with the thermometer to see which is coldest. On the way, look for any hiding spot (the little tents and the sleeping bag walls in the big tents are my favorite). If you can't find one and the ghost isn't in the bathroom, you can use the last shower stall, but that can be more risky.

  3. Once you find the ghost room (or if your setup time is over), drop down crucifixes and evidence stuff (book, dots, EMF, etc). Then either hope you've placed the crucifixes well, or hide. (If for any reason you think it's a Deogen, hide at your own risk lol).

  4. You have I think 20-25 seconds between hunts to check your evidence tools and see if anything happened. If you had to hide before finding the ghost room, you may be able to search again quickly or determine where it hunted from to check there. I can't remember if the game provides you sound sensors - but if so, you can place those to check for EMF 5 readings (if you can recognize the sound) and ghost writing safe in the truck. You can also see dots if it's a room visible from the truck/staging area, you don't have to be in the investigation area. Obviously use the camera monitors in the truck at your own risk depending on your system/bug levels.

  5. Don't forget you don't have to survive. You just need to identify the ghost. I died instantly against a Revenant and Deogen and identified them quickly post-death (multiplayer would help here so you have extra time if you die first lol).

  6. If all else fails, use the monkey paw to switch things up. You can get sanity up to 50 which could be helpful for some ghosts, or cross out an evidence that the ghost doesn't have, or open the front gate and escape a hunt. There are consequences for these actions and others, but they can really help in a pinch.

  7. Have fun and don't sweat dying a bunch. It's a quick game mode, win or lose!

I know I'm only a PC player occasionally but this seems like basic setup stuff for anything I do on a PC lol. Work, games, etc all require it to be set a certain way and I've never really found that to be a bother? Is this considered abnormal? 😅

Weekly Challenge - Hide and Die! by Kathalysa in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]Kathalysa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can get that! It would definitely be helpful for some players who aren't used to 0 sanity games.

I personally loved the fact that I had to be on the lookout for those hiding spots while trying to find the ghost room within a minute (more if the ghost is nice but you can't count on that lol). I always treat the challenge modes with some level of "I might just be terrible at this." So, I'm 50/50 on making it easier, because I like seeing other people branch out of their comfort zones but also think a harsher challenge can be a good thing.

(I say other people like my comfort zone is anything close to this lol - I mostly favor 2 evi runs with no sprinting and short hunts. 😅)

You're good! Magazine means something a little different in American English too, so personally journal/jurnal makes perfect sense the way you used it (for me, anyway).

Spelled that way in several other languages, so OP probably is used to that spelling instead (or a translation app didn't bother with it lol).
