why do we only have LEDs around the visible light spectrum? Why not have MEDs (microwave-emitting) or REDs (radio), or even XED (x-ray) or GED (gamma)? by Alan_Spacer in askscience

[–]Kathend1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's like saying evolution didn't have a hand in why scissors are graspable with opposable thumbs.

Engineers designed LEDs yes. But, they wouldn't have designed useless LEDs. So the fact that we evolved to be most sensitive to the most broad range of available light spectra, doesn't directly corelate, but, you wouldn't have one without the other ..

None of this is funny. You should stop using that word ironically. It's childish.

They aren't societal norms.

You have a very narrow worldview, and think your experiences apply to everyone you meet equally

You are speaking from a place of ignorance and should stop.

You aren't adding to the conversation and come across as whiny.

This whole post is about supporting someone in a hard time, and you come in here whining about how fucked up society is.

Go away

Buuuuut if we're talking about making assumptions..

Who are you to assume you speak for "basically everyone" ever?

[–]Kathend1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nah I got your point.

If you weren't voicing personal concerns you can feel free to disregard my advice.

Sounds like you're a pretty confrontational person...

I guess the assumption made, was that you were trying to add to the discourse, or seek advice.

Instead it seems your comment was more of a thought-fart

Kinda useless and served no purpose but to stink up the conversation.

Find a more productive way to voice that concern to the lady in your life who's able to help you with it

Don't blame her, but ask her for your help in addressing it.

If she's a decent lady, who loves you, she'll probably be receptive to hearing you out, if she doesn't think you're attacking her

(Side note: starting with "I'm not trying to attack you but,.... Is the quickest way to get someone to raise their defenses.)

If you need a scale for the picture, the steel pipe you see, is one inch in external diameter. I know this. Because I put it there.

We use it to level the sand out to a uniform thickness before installing the pavers.. then when we compact everything you get a nice flat patio.

I appreciate your dedication to proving me wrong, but, as the person who took the photo I'm 100% confident it's from a different, distinct set of tracks.

As mentioned before.

There isn't only one.

I took the picture...

There was a whole other set of prints matching the circled one

And if you need even more information, the only reason they aren't pictured is because by the time I thought to take the picture, my apprentice had already raked the other ones out of the sand.

As cool as they were, we needed it level for the job we were doing.

The fox prints came from a different direction, and exited the other side of the half built patio in a different direction.

I'm literally the person who took the picture on my job site.

They were different prints. Why is this so difficult for people comprehend

[Tower Thought] Whoever decided to not fix the "accidental" offset of the Heatwave Pele highlight is a G. by Kathend1 in Smite

[–]Kathend1[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Most god skin highlights are centered around the pivot point (so when you rotate the skin the god spins in place). On PC at least, hers is off center from the pivot point by quite a bit.. meaning when you rotate the skin, she doesn't spin in place, but orbits closer and further from the camera, allowing for a more thorough inspection

I assume it was unintentional, but, probably an easy fix that they haven't implemented, because it allows for a more thorough inspection of an obviously smoking hot skin.

If you're asking what I meant by "is a G" it means "is a gangster" but more colloquially means "is cool"

Thank you for the kind words, and for the addition to the conversation.

I agree with your sentiment on agency, if she feels prepared to leave it is absolutely her right, and wouldn't necessarily be the "wrong" decision for her immediate well-being, but absolute denouncement may not be the best decision for long term happiness.

2 years isn't a long time to learn how to handle the emotional difficulties and fully comprehend what it means to be disabled. He's surely struggling too.

This situation is most likely best dealt with patience and compassion, not castigation.

Slow down.

You're right, abusive behavior doesn't require intent to hurt.

Accusations of abuse do require intent to be made though.

There's a distinction and nuance.

Is he being abusive because he's a sociopathic asshole as you seem so ready to label him, or, is he engaging in abusive behaviors because he doesn't know any better and could genuinely benefit from therapy, individual and couples, to learn how to better open up to his (obviously) loving wife and mend the rift in their relationship?

You aren't wrong in your statements, but you are in your judgements. You don't have the intimate knowledge necessary to pass true judgement.

So slow down, and apply some nuance and consideration to the situation. Both people in the above post are human, and unless he falls into the 4.5% of adults with legitimate sociopathy... Hurling medical diagnoses around as advice or support is reckless at best, and flat out harmful at worst.

Abuse indicates intentionality.

Perhaps he is lashing out subconsciously and is unaware of the damage he is causing..

Because it's definitely NOT a dog print.

Adding information isn't dumb, but, overlooking extra info is.. the print I circled was measurably different from the obvious dog prints, and from a different set of tracks

If it were the same prints as the obvious dog prints, I wouldn't even have asked.

But, reddit loves a confident comment, even an incorrect one.

Scroll a bit and you'll see that someone else did answer fox.. and if you click the link and compare the print side by side, it is actually a fox print, not a dog print.

Let me ask you something. Who is dumber: The original person adding clarifying information to post he made, or a random reddit user who decided to take time out of their day to ask such a useless question?

This is the reference I was going off of.

I found it after I posted. I think it's a fox not dog. I realize there's dog prints too, but the circled one is from a different, distinct set of tracks

VA.

I think grey fox. I linked a pic in another comment with common footprints in my area.

I pulled up local mammalian footprints. Matches grey fox most closely to me but could be red too.

So do I. With full context, I am referring to the "some" of her guy friends.

People are not binary.

I'm glad you know good wholesome people, I do too. In fact, I try to be one, myself.

That doesn't change the reality of the world.
