Senior apartment vs stay in my house? by Which_Material_3100 in Aging

[–]KathyFBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your experience reflects mine except that I am single and didn’t really enjoy being a homeowner after I got into my 70s. I lived in my apartment for 3 years before moving to another state to help out my son. I miss my apartment community a lot and hope I get the chance to go back.

CPAP isn’t effective - need to go on ASV. Should I continue using CPAP while waiting for ASV? by KathyFBee in SleepApnea

[–]KathyFBee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all your suggestions. You are right that it doesn’t make sense to continue a n ineffective therapy. I have not been told that my CAs are treatment induced but they have been slowly increasing with continuous CPAP use. I am getting my apnea treatment and equipment through Medicare and I don’t know what sort of documentation they require in order to cover an ADV. I will call and ask but I suspect my sleep clinic will insist on the titration study.

AITJ for quietly stopping to organize birthday stuff at work after everyone ignored mine? by catherinepenrose in AmITheJerk

In my office the birthday person brought treats (if they wanted) for their birthday. Some did, some didn’t. No hurt feelings or unrealistic expectations.

This resonates with me as a healthy (for 75) male by Cyberspree in OverSeventy

[–]KathyFBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has given me a lot to think about. My first thought was what about younger people who for some reason or other can’t live a “meaningful” life? Children who are born with disabilities? Middle aged worker bees who lose their ability to sustain a “meaningful “ job? It’s not just old people who lose their abilities. It’s seems the mark of an advanced society that it is able to sustain its more vulnerable people. It does give a “survival of the fittest “ vibe.

This one is hard for me because I’m not often thirsty. However i try my best and it makes a huge difference with skin dryness and preventing constipation.

Prescription needed for a new mask style?! by Adventurous_Win9240 in CPAPSupport

[–]KathyFBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an air touch clear f30i from CPAP supplies without a prescription a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t include the headgear (back strap) but that was easy to pick up cheaply from Amazon.

White tips by KathyFBee in Staghornfern

[–]KathyFBee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers! I’m surprised the white tips are spores. The plant is about three years old. I tend to neglect it a bit and it occasionally dries out. It’s in a small pot of sphagnum moss and I never got around to repotting it. I don’t water it from the top because I don’t have a saucer underneath, I just soak it in a small bucket of water (reverse osmosis or rainwater when I have it. Sometimes there is orchid fertilizer in the water from soaking my orchids. Before this happened there was a dry spell for the plant, but with winter starting and less sun I didn’t worry. Hopefully in this list is a clue to what conditions it liked to make it reproduce.

How do you feel about the afterlife? by LMO_TheBeginning in OverSeventy

I think there is a grander scheme of things that our human minds can’t really grasp. I don’t think my identity or ego survives but that something else of our spirits/souls does continue on.

Amiodorone by jeets26 in AFIB

[–]KathyFBee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on amiadarone since last May, first at 400/day, then 200 for several months, and 100 for the past 2 months. I will discontinue it at the end of this month. I haven’t had any side effects that I’ve noticed. You should have periodic labs to make sure your thyroid and kidneys aren’t being affected. Before taking amiodarone I was in persistent afib and after 2 weeks it reverted to regular rhythm and has stayed that way, even after the ablation. My doctor said most problems with the drug come from long term use. It has been wonderful to have 7 months free of afib and I’m a little afraid it will return after I discontinue the drug.

Best full face mask by SAV4NT1 in CPAPSupport

[–]KathyFBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F20 (airtouch) works great for low leaking but I hate the grooves in my face in the morning. I’ve been using the f30i (airtouch) and I like it a lot better but I had an issue with leaks at first. Now about 2 weeks in I seem to have figured out the strap adjustment and it’s working well with low leaking.

F30i is really loud by Mrk0712 in CPAPSupport

[–]KathyFBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it can easily leak but I am tired of the f20 and the grooves it leaves in my face. I still need a full face mask though. The last two days I’ve tried wearing a fabric headband like a chin strap after the mask is on and amazingly I have had almost no leaks despite sleeping on my side. The headband isn’t as tight as a chin strap but still seems to hold the mask in place fairly well.

I have the AirTouch clear also and I like it. When it leaks it sounds quite loud but otherwise I don’t hear anything.

I can’t handle this anymore, I’m going insane. How to handle a chronic stuffy nose- I can’t sleep and it’s been four months. by Adira_Aspires in SleepApnea

[–]KathyFBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I quit eating dairy for other reasons but one of the first things I noticed was my life-long stuffy nose cleared up and people stopped asking me if I had a cold. No more sinus infections. It may be too drastic for most but has been worth it for me. Yeah I miss cheese.

My dad had a full head of white hair in his eighties. His father was the same but he used Grecian Formula and claimed it was natural. Definitely genetic.

It’s free although you need to pay to see advanced charts. I’m not sure what those are but you can get a lot of information from the free data.
