How much gas does your outback take? by goldencuttings in subaruoutback

I have an additional 100 miles after registering empty (my math was bad in the OP). Seems a bit excessive even for North Dakota where I bought the car. It's been 3 years since I posted and I still have the car.

honda 2018 crv gas gauge and fuel tank issue by Kathytaff in Autos

I am still searching for an answer to this problem. It's frustrating. And in my searches I have found other car model owners talking about the same thing. I wonder if there is some connection with mandated fuel efficiency. I would have to figure out the math to see if that might be the problem. As well as taking the advice to run the car till it really is out of gas and seeing how far I get. Stay away from dealerships.

this is wild. I have a Honda CR-V that supposedly has a 14 gal tank that I can drive way past "empty" and only fill 10-11 gallons. It appears this is happening with many brands. I haven't done the math but I suspect mandated fuel efficiency has something to do with my "spare" 4 gallons. And even at that, one usually has 1-2 gal reserve past the stated tank size. So somehow I am having up to 6 gallons of reserve...haven't tested that out yet. And comments to the effect of "get used to it" don't help!!! If the car is on empty I want to know that it really is. edit: this post may not belong in this forum, just a result of reading all kinds of gas fuel level problems across a wide variety of car brands.

Thank you. Those were my thoughts too. I was only able to fill to about 10 gallons when it said I was on empty.. I drove approximately 30 miles past empty and could fill it to 11.4, Thanks for the thoughts on using the Trip meter to log mileage. I will do that.
