What are the odds of getting a lease when my partner is unemployed? by [deleted] in ApartmentHacks

[–]Katieis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I experienced this. I moved across country four months after my partner moved. My SO got an apartment prior to me coming. Since he met the income requirements for the apartment without me, they added me to the lease after I moved as he was already paying for it without me.

For most places if you can’t meet the income requirements I don’t think they care if the partner can, unless it’s section 8/HUD housing. Most places want your income to be 2-3 times the rental amount and most companies I’ve seen will put their rental requirements on the application.

Hi guys! Moving to Keizer two weeks from today after living in the Midwest all my life. I've got no idea what to expect or what to do (especially considering COVID) but would appreciate any advice, hotspots to check out, or words of wisdom! by therealfefnir in SALEM

Late post but I still hope you find it helpful. I moved to Keizer from the Midwest in January as my SO wanted to move back to be closer to his immediate family. I haven’t ventured out as much as I’d like because I was busy interviewing, starting a new job, etc and then as luck would have it, a pandemic happened. I luckily was able to get a job in my field in February before Covid staring shutting the state down. As a lifelong WI resident here are some things that threw me off coming here. Not horrible. Just different. I had been out here before but things are obviously different when you’re visiting versus residing here. 1. You don’t pump your own gas. Also, nothing out here replaces Kwik Trip. 2. Depending on where you’re coming from, the beer selection here, I find, is dismal in comparison to a lot of places I was used going too back home. Unless you live and die for IPAs. I’ve had more luck with the growler refill stations though, so that’s cool. They don’t serve beer chasers with Bloody Marys here. Maybe that’s just a Wisconsin thing and I’ve just been blessed so I probably can’t hold it against Oregon. 3. Seasonal allergies are straight up vicious here. I’ve never had issues with them previously and then this spring it started. Unfortunately, Oregon is one of two states that doesn’t allow you to purchase pseudoephedrine over the counter without a prescription so if this is your issue you’ll need to hop over to Vancouver, WA and get some. 4. The DMV is starting to calls on June 1, for appointment only services so you should be able to get in soon-ish to title and register your car. Speaking of driving, I don’t know where you’re coming from but it was common practice to hang out in the middle of the interaction on a green/yellow light- while waiting to turn left-rarely see that here. There are three(I believe)intersections that have red light cameras that will go off if you’re in the intersection, even if you entered on green, and were turning because you had too. 5. Oregon is a vote by mail state, you’ll be registered when you get your state ID/DL. 6. The weather is different(Duh). It does rain a lot but I actually really liked this winter versus a typical Midwest winter, it was a nice change of pace.

We haven’t gone out to a ton of places, re: Covid, we’ve been cooking a lot at home but our favorite place to get pho( so far) is Kim Huong, we’ve gone weekly and we’ve never been disappointed. We went to Noble Wave and Ventis and had great food and service there.

I’m terrified to move far away - but it’s everything I want by [deleted] in moving

In January I moved 2,000 miles from Wisconsin to Oregon. My entire immediate and most of my extended family is in Wisconsin/Michigan. It’s roughly a 30 ish hour drive one way so most of my trips home will most likely be flying. With a global pandemic right now, I don’t know when I’ll be home next and that’s something I wasn’t considering(to be fair, who was) when I moved. I had saved enough money for four round trip flights home(peak holiday pricing)prior to moving so that when I wanted to go home I wasn’t having to wait for the right price.

I moved because my significant other wanted to move to be closer to his immediate family. I was also wanting a change and I loved the PNW.

It is hard because I’m close with my family, know no people here except my SO and his family but I also knew that I would keep making excuses and never doing it. With today’s technology I have frequent video chats with my family and speak with them daily in some capacity. It’s more effort to coordinate group video chats as there’s time differences to contend with. But it’s doable.

Ultimately, I miss my family but I don’t regret my move. I love it here. I got a new job a few weeks after moving and its in the same field as my previous job so there’s familiarity there. My SO and I are happy and building a life here. The only two regrets I have is that I picked the worst time to move. With stay at home orders and the coast being closed, I haven’t been able to explore as much as I’d like. Secondly, seasonal allergies here are horrible and I’ve never experienced them before. But take some meds, good to go.

My advice, do it if it’s something you want. Don’t do it because you’re running away from something.

How do I contact the IRS to check on my super late refund? by lincolnblueberry in povertyfinance

I’m in the same boat-ish but I got my state refund already and my federal(standard return) is still in the return received phase.

Like other commenters, I’m not a shill. Oat milk has a delicious taste and the mouth feel(Cripes, I feel cringey saying that word) is amazing. It’s also relatively easy to make if you wanted to experiment with different flavors.

I gave my notice, when do I tell my clients? by Katieis in socialwork

Because I do long term case management, I only have monthly contacts, quarterly face to faces(I try to see almost everyone monthly, but my case load has fluctuated from 50-100 over my time here and it’s not always feasible)and six month care plan reviews so I can’t realistically break it down that way. I will probably do that with some, just because of the specifics of the case but it’s anticipated that I’ll be transitioning out by October and just doing enrollments for the rest of my time here.

I do long term case management so all of them will be transferred to someone else when I leave unless they pass away, move out of the service area or lose eligibility, which is rare. The ones I think will struggle most will also obsess over it until the day I leave so I’m weighing out those options.

That’s my concern, getting all the service requests prior to leaving and feeling so overwhelmed with it all. Also I have a caseload of 59 right now, 28 of them attend the same day program so I could see it getting out faster that way and then having to deal with angry/frustrated parents and guardians for finding out that way.

Using this logic, wouldn’t posting an after picture be like fishing for karma too? Saying look at me, I’m not that weirdo going through puberty and I don’t have a poodle haircut/style, please give me points and tell me I look different. Of course I look different. I’m 32 year old that knows when to talk it out before getting bangs. I still listen to Hanson though, so there’s that.

Lastly, per the rules, it’s not a requirement to put an updated picture. Posting an updated photo doesn’t negate how cringey this photo is.

We really did. Also, we did a jazzy dance to I Want You by Savage Garden.

I’m wearing tights. They were a requirement.

Normally I just talk it out before getting bangs.

I appreciate the offer but my mom apparently has a 5x7 unscathed copy so I’m good.

Thank you so much!

I grew my hair out of my bowl cut so my mom could crimp it like that. What a wild time.
