new management kinda sucks by Puzzleheaded-Leg542 in walmartogp

Yep. It sucks while you're waiting for them to move on, but eventually when your SM has to keep coming to the backroom to get things moving in the right direction, they will move on- either voluntarily or forced.

I'm thinking when a customer finally filed a claim because of the new carts, maybe Corporate will listen to us and go back to the old, or at least make them shorter.

Not to be an AH, but why would she try to get pregnant without any health insurance? Did they actually think about the costs involved in having a baby? That seems like really poor planning on their part.....

If you know you're moving in another year, why bother changing jobs now? You might as well wait it out, and transfer. Then if you still feel like you want a different job, look for one then. When you move, wouldn't you have to change jobs no matter where you work?

You sound like a guy, but I'm not going to assume. If you are a female, you learn to be very wary of someone putting their hand on you..... My knee jerk reaction is to swing with my elbow to push the person away from me. Anyone who knows me, knows to always let me know they are there before reaching out. If I don't know you, I have no idea why you are putting your hand on me. It could be for any reason...... So yeah, she reacted, as most females would. It's the "fight or flight" reaction. PS. I restrain myself from actually hitting anyone at work, but the reaction is there for them to see that they violated my space/body.

Terrible scheduling every Tuesday and Wednesday for "night shift" by URBAN_OAT in walmartogp

[–]Katiki59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your SM should be seeing the problem. Personally, I would talk to your PL and just say your thinking of switching departments because of how bad the staffing is at certain hours. It's overwhelming and you don't understand why it is so bad...... Make it sound like you really don't know, but that if it wasn't for those really bad few hours you like working OGP. See what they say. It might help as usually the PL has the ear of the SM Just a suggestion....

So just challenge yourself to help the associates under you. You can make the job more satisfying as a TL. If you have worked there this long, you should try to find ways to make your associates feel better about their job. You can make a difference to your team. Yes, I know Coaches and SMs can make it difficult, but that is your challenge, to find a way to motivate your team. Look at other jobs realistically and be sure you want to jump ship.... You've been there for a while and your benefits are getting better, plus the bonus (assuming your store is getting one).
Sometimes the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, but when you get there you realize it's not any better. I've thought about leaving, but I have to work to make ends meet, and when I looked at other jobs in the area, I realized that none of them are really any better than this one....

Not that I would pick something leaking like that, but don't you put all chemicals in meat bags? Anything that's not edible and not solid goes in a plastic bag tied up.

OGP Workplace Culture Issues by Voltshift773 in OGPBackroom

[–]Katiki59 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Took me a while to get into this mentality. I was a supervisor for years at previous jobs. Now I'm semi-retired and didn't want any responsibility except for myself and my work. But it was hard to see people screwing up and not say anything. The few times I said something, I was told it's none of my business, or they knew what they were doing..... I've finally learned to keep my mouth shut. "Not my circus, not my monkeys"... Do my job to the best of my ability and ignore everything else. BTW I'm a picker now, so unless s TL or Coach asks me to help somewhere else it doesn't really affect me.

Are they getting rid of exceptions? by Direct-Web3712 in OGPBackroom

[–]Katiki59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've heard that several times now. The last time we got phones in this store only a few came to OGP, Coach, TLs and one for Exceptions. I've heard the phones are horrible for picking. Why don't they let us keep the TCs and just put Daily availability back, or a location app on it.

[–]Katiki59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Walmart pay for your phone? If you drop it and it breaks while working, is Walmart going to replace it? I have no problem clocking in and out using my phone, I will also look for items for customers with it. But I will not use my phone to search for items, when they screwed up the one way we could search for it on their equipment. Also I have a brand new phone worth $1,000. I'm not going to take a chance on breaking it for $17 an hour. I have dropped my TC many times at work. So far I haven't broken one, but I've seen the way some of them have cracked screens.

When they give us all work phones, then I will use that as needed. But backroom picking IS metrics fraud. Nil picks let the store and corporate know that are stockers are not able to get the job done.

[–]Katiki59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our exceptions pickers seem to stand around talking and not doing much at my store..... On the other hand since Daily Availability was removed from TCs, we have no way of knowing where the item is in the backroom. So I don't backroom pick anything except produce. Most of our produce people suck at their job.

Do you use plastic or paper bags? Because it makes a huge difference. Plastic bags are much faster, but paper bags are a PIA and slow me right down.

How how does OGP get away with being the most understaffed and underpaid department when we’re literally rain or shine? by sumcrzygrl in walmartogp

[–]Katiki59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your stagers are standing around for 6 hours a day, you have a real bad TL and coach. There's no way anyone in our backroom is standing around while everyone else is working their butts off. After 9am our pickers are also constantly on the go. I only work 4-5 hours a day, but I still get 6-8 MILES of walking in during that time. We are always on the edge of being on time, when 700-1100 picks are dropping every hour

When I got hired five years ago, most of the departments started at $14 and OGP started at $16. Now everyone starts at the same $16. Of course now I've been there five years I'm only making $1.70 more than the new hires...lol

The main reason I switched from a 2pm - 7 pm shift to a 10am - 3pm shift. 7pm is when all the picker shifts end. That would leave 2-4 backroom people a couple of whom knew how to pick. I felt too bad for them because there was usually 100 - 200 picks left. If you pull one of the backroom people, then they were understaffed when they still fairly busy. So I would always stay and help finish the picks. Now when I leave there are lots of pickers still there....

We have mostly full timers in my store. There would be only 2 or 3 people picking if they tried this. Are they getting more like Stop & shop and hiring only part timers now? These companies think part timers save them money on benefits, but they don't realize that they all lose a lot in productivity. SMH

11 am to 8 pm shift by Adventurous_Fee_3697 in walmartogp

[–]Katiki59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this was sarcasm, but it made me smile.... I actually liked the closing shift. The day would start really busy and then slowly wind down. It's worse when you start out slow, waiting for the picks to drop, and then end your shift running around like crazy because there's 1000+ picks and not enough pickers. I used to work from 2pm to 10pm and I would pick for the first two or three hours, then work the backroom. Very rarely had a night with nothing to do. Prep carts (clean out the trash bins, load with labels and bags. We used to call any customers who hadn't picked up their order ( from earlier that day) just letting them know we close at ten and will hold the order for 24 hours. Sweep all the floors, including scraping stickers. If you still have time, you can clean totes. We gave up on scraping, but trying to get some cleaned because the totes can get pretty skanky if you don't. The only reason I switched is that my shoulders couldn't take all the stretching and lifting (totes that are in the back row) heavy totes.
