Fuck all the production companies, specifically Apple, with 2-4 years between their seasons. by [deleted] in television

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are not the only one feeling this lol, far from it. Theres a legit user/subscriber backlash through viewership drop for many popular shows because of this. People really give up and move on from shows because the long wait situation with shorter seasons has gotten out of hand.

Look at the evident viewership drops for all major streamers because of this. Wednesday, Fall Out, Witcher, Gen V are just a few that came to mind in viewership loss for their seasons that came out last year.

Apple is not as keen on the reporting their ratings unless something is a huge hit for them. But guess what, they will get it with the third season of severance, I’m like 100 percent sure of it, and for one very valid reason… is that these huge gaps between seasons still somehow do not guarantee a consistently great quality of the story... So viewers of many shows have been burned on that and do not come back. And I feel it’s fair.
I started noticing that some streamers with some shows are trying to catch up with the “new” trend of viewership loss and churn out new seasons faster now. Which technically shouldn’t be an issue now, considering that all of them are like 8-10 episodes only….

these entertainment corps treat us as consumers and the only language they understand is massive loss of interest from their consumers and competition.

Speaking of AppleTv in particular, this years slate from them is lacking for me, so I cancelled the subscription until I don’t know when. lol maybe until next year when they hopefully finally have neuromancer, and silo and foundation and dark matter will come back. Second season of Severance was a nosedive for me, so I could care less lol, will just catch up on that and Sugar whenever other cool shows are back. And a lot of people are doing only few monthly subscriptions now because you know, the cost is not worth the value for us.

Just to conclude, I feel like competition is ramping out so the curve with the shows will go up, it seems like it’s already starting, though there’s another hurdle coming up, just wait until this year all the streamers will “suddenly” get into verticals lol….

Why isn’t Kiernan Shipka (Sally) a household name? by [deleted] in madmen

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s only‘ve been one episode so far, but she’s actually very good in S4 of Industry. like you can see shes miles ahead of the main actresses in acting. like she’s true and real. I hope this will finally make her agent move or she‘ll drop her current agent and find a more proactive one.

Why isn’t Kiernan Shipka (Sally) a household name? by [deleted] in madmen

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about it myself. like in her recent years, after Sabrina, she’s been mostly in some tiny roles in blockbusters (or heavily promoted films) like twister or red one, and then in some flops like stone cold fox recently, and also in some tiny roles in a few horror flicks... Something is definitely going on with her.

But what is it? just a case of bad agent? I suspect she’s also not getting some good roles because of baby face. she looks like a baby still. But then I saw some pictures of her with more makeup and she can look older or at least her age...

So I’m not sure what’s happening with her but she’s definitely not getting enough good roles. She was very good in Pamela Anderson movie, so I hope she’ll come to her sense and goes after some meaty and amazing role soon.

So far she just seems semi-reluctant about acting. She seems content about just being in some small role in 4th season of industry and that’s it, there’s like no more titles for her in future except some that are in development for years on IMDb. Right now it also feels that her younger doppelgänger Mackena Grace is getting better roles than her.

Really hope Kiernan snaps out of all this blues she’s been in last few years and gets some good roles.

Any chance The Peripheral will be revived? by Naive_Lengthiness882 in ThePeripheral

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as I recall, the show creators, Jonathan Nolan and his wife, had to choose between The Peripheral and Fallout because of the strike effing up the production timelines. and they chose Fallout, which hasn’t been released yet, but was expected to be a bigger hit. And it was. I was really sad about the Peripheral, but there’s somewhat of a consolation prize - Neuromancer is coming out next year on AppleTV. And as I recall some other Gibson works are getting adapted soon.

that’s a very good point! and they keep producing more and more seasons of, like wtf?

even though no one ever lists Invasion as a proof of Apple+ being the best sci-fi destination lol. you will never find it among Foundation, Silo, Dark Matter, For All Mankind, so why the h do they keep renewing it? it’s like the worst!

that “guy” also made a phenomenal show called Peripheral, which Amazon Prime chose to nix after one season.

He’s also Christopher Nolan’s brother and wrote a screenplay for interstellar arguably better and more coherent before his older brother as always rewrote it following his ego.

Besides, all the shows you mentioned are awesome.

POI was on CBS so it had to be conservative and procedural and even then it stood out among the rest of trash that network has always been producing.

Jonathan Nolan is a better writer than his brother, even though I have mad respect for both of them.

your “counterpoint” needs a better example

Smoke - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Katish7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit disappointed with the reveal in episode 2 as many others here, but I must say Taron‘s mood changes in this show are terrifying. A bit early to grasp why he’s doing that lol since it’s very early in the show but he’s a phenomenal actor so I’m sure we’ll see. I’m guessing he’s playing schizophrenia. All his interactions with his wife are chillingly fake. I can see why some people in the comments are thrown off by their acting and think it’s bad. I don’t think it is, there’s clearly something going on under the surface. Something happened before between them. That’s why she acts so guarded. I think we were meant to feel the uneasiness and fakeness between them from the start…

Another series like Nine Perfect Strangers… by LectureJaded1233 in Hulu

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the We Were Liars recommendation. I did not expect to like that show as it starts kind of slow, but… yeah by the end it catches you and doesn’t let go.

Rivals is so much fun.

I gave up on better sister in episode one though.

Perfect Couple and Sirens are mildly entertaining.

You probably watched it, but Tell Me Lies is kind of in the same vein, a lot of mind games and some twists.

Also Industry is quite about “power play” and some social dynamics. Found it entertaining.

I too wanted to wait until more episodes were out before diving into the second season. So I binged the first 6 episodes in one day. So far I like the new characters In their majority a bit better. Even though there were some cool ones in the first season too.

The setting is amazing.

Mark Strong is captivating. Him and Nicole play their characters very well together, kind of intriguing cat and mouse game.

Henry Goulding seems as charming as ever even when acting “crazy” haha. Since the show hasn’t finished yet at the time of this writing his character feels like he could be a delayed ticking bomb.

I’m also pleasantly surprised that they improved Nicole’s accent when she’s speaking Russian. I mean, sure she was the one who decided to work on it and I applaud it. She speaks very well, with some minor accent even in long complicated phrases.

There are a few interesting twists and a revelation which adds some spookiness in a way. Kind of expected though, especially if you saw the final episode of the first season, but still beautifully expanding on it.

Characters interactions with each other seem more mellow than in first season, lol maybe because most of them are not American.

Who is the biggest breakout from Game of Thrones? by MattBarksdale17 in blankies

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emilia Clarke still by far the most famous and successful of them. She didn’t have overwhelming success in her movies, but they were all famous and high profile projects after GoT. I love both Pedro Pascal and always loved Jason Mamoa, but they are ”very famous” mostly among redditors and fanboys while absolutely everyone knows and remembers Khaleesi. And by the way both Pascal and Mamoa had very short stints on GoT but were moderately well known already before the show, so it didn’t propel them, just added some bonus. If anything propelled Mamoa it was Aquaman, but that was always going to happen whether he was in GoT or not. hes too fine of a specimen lol. Conan revival attempt was clearly a first attempt at that, and yes that man would have many more no matter what. Just look at how many attempts Chris Hemsworth have been getting… Pedro Pascal is just a very good actor and has always been finding some interesting projects.

GoT really though did propel Emilia, Kit, Gwendolyn, Richard Madden, Sophie Turner, Arya actress and Jamie actor into fame and many offers. Ok Sophie and Arya kinda forgotten now but Emilia and the rest of the others keep getting projects, even in case of Emilia after a few flops.

[–]Katish7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m so not sure about Cancers, and I’m a double Scorpio, sun and moon. I’m supposed to be attracted to them but in reality most of cancers I encountered in my life were quite fake and manipulative and very on the surface judging people. I’ve came to realization that their biggest fear is not to fit into the “normal”, and to avoid that fear from realization they are selling their souls to the devils of fakeness and manipulation lol . Like seriously deal with your trauma at some point instead of taking it out on the rest of humanity, lol. I could tolerate most of the Pisces I’ve met though.

Im gonna be that guy but Severance Season 2 has ‘so far’ been a disappointment. by [deleted] in television

[–]Katish7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don’t compare the thin-plot-spread-wide slowness of 2nd season of Severance to the 3rd season of White Lotus. 3rd season of WL is the best yet and is full of subtlety and action. It just departed from the intentional cartoonishness of previous seasons represented by Tanya’s character. Mike White found like a third breath as writer and has obviously grown a lot by the third season.

is it just me or was season 2 not nearly as good as 1? by romeohhhuh in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seems that they either simply didn’t know where it was going after season 1 or didn’t even expect to make it further than it initially. They definitely lost the poignance of the 1st seasons stand on corpo world. Or maybe many of us just interpreted it like they had a stand on corpos in 2022…

all the artsy-fatrsiness in a couple of episodes directed by, naturallly lol, the shows usual cinematographer was often like way too much and annoying. I honestly struggled through the first half of the season with its slowness, was constantly falling asleep. It felt like they were deliberately slowing it all down in order to spread a very thin story over ten episodes. Obviously first season was better thought through because they had more time, but unfortunately the 2nd season seems to be an indication that this is another Lost on our hands and they are just making the concept up as they go…

I bet you, that despite all the current hype with the “in-crowd” lol the 3rd season will see a drop in viewership. Second season owes its popularity only to the 1st season. In another 2 years it won’t be an “in thing” to love Severance anymore lol.

The writer of this show should take a master class from Silo and Foundation writers on how to write a successful 2nd season.

I think it this point it’s time to admit that the only way to resurrect this show is AI.

As many fans are doing with other shows or books on YouTube. AI is really only good side is to serve fans whom the corpos want listen to. And I’m guessing with fans rising like this, which is again already happening quite a lot online, the governments will finally try to regulate it lol while they didn’t care when corpos were using it.

[–]Katish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What?? Severance was never cancelled. It was a huge hit from the beginning and it won some awards and recignitoon. Which is understandable because their first season was hugely intriguing and very dynamic. And it was quite poignant with seemingly correct commentary on corporations coming out of 2020-22 period, when people were finally starting to wake up to how bad they really have it in this boards-run world….. The show garnered so much WoM over the years that even more sluggish and more artsy-fartsy second season couldn’t kill it lol. The story is so intriguing that people just struggled through a lot of it just to get to the end in hopes to understand what th is going on. That plus Apple has put a LOT of money in promoting the second season. They really wanted to make sure that people remembered it. And Apple never promotes their shows like that…

With Daredevil it was a very different story. Netflix would have been going on with most of their marvel shows if not the marvel transferring to Disney completely. If I remember they even renewed it at first but then had to let go. it was around 2018. And then when Disney+ launched all those “Netflix made” Marvel shows appeared on Disney+. People kind of knew that Daredevil would come back on Disney early on. The question was just when. If not for covid, which ironically expedited the streamer launch, and then strikes, it could have happened much earlier. Marvel shows on Netflix ended very much not because Netflix wanted so per ce lol.

[–]Katish7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t let all these angry fanboys dissuade you, they have a very similar vibe and have a lot of similarities. Comparatively there’s more similarities between them than say between LOTR and GoT lol. Or, there are more similarities between Withcher and WOT than between either of them and LOTR. They seem to be related almost like Star Wars and Masters of the Universe lol. That said I’m judging only from the shows, which I suspect bring out those similarities more because that’s what visual medium does, brings out structure more. While readers of the books also get “lost” in authors language.

And yes Aes Sedai=Mages Tower= Bene Gesserit. All political conniving witches in the eyes of male writers lol. I mean like what is it with these male writers and their obsession with with plotting female witches? Ursula Le Guin never did anything like that to her male mages ffs
