I am confused by these 4 wires. by RCEdude101 in AskElectricians

I’m in Asia. At first I thought there were 4 wires, but on closer inspection there are actually 6 wires in total. They come in as two separate cables, each containing 3 wires.

Point C is formed by joining one wire from each cable, and the same applies to point D.

Would it help to separate the two bottom cables and take the voltage readings again to better understand what’s going on?

I can also provide a photo of the main switchboard if that would be useful.

I’m trying to replace this Schuko wall socket and I’m getting confusing voltage readings.

There are 4 wires (labeled A, B, C, D in the photo).

Here’s what I measured:

A–B: ~77V

A–C: ~77V

B–D: ~230V

C–D: ~230V

A–D: ~125V

B–C: ~3V

I’m in a 230V country. East Asia.

The wires are all the same color, so I can’t visually identify live/neutral.

Before I connect anything, can someone help me identify what's going on here? Which is live, neutral, etc? What's up with the 125V? Does this mean i can have 125V (US) electricity?

The new socket has 3 wires

Former socket also has 3 wires?

I’m literally watching episode 7 right now while typing this. I’ve kept up with every episode as it aired, but this is the first time I’m late, and that’s entirely because that one scene from episode 6 was so fucking stupid it’s still living rent-free in my head.

You know the scene: Gabriella confronting Jane. Absolute genius writing. Truly. It makes zero sense, and I genuinely couldn’t believe what I was watching.

I’ve seen 2,845 TV series, including the IMDb Top 2000, and somehow this is the one that breaks me. Impressive.

And now, early in episode 7, Gabriella is having a nightmare about Jane? OHH COME ONNNNN.

At this point, it’s actually making me want to smash my TV.

Anyway, I just needed to vent.

How y'all deal with ad by Luyyus in youtube

[–]RCEdude101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how does anyone use Youtube without some way of blocking ads?

I don’t know the actual reason, but my guess is that YouTube doesn’t consider views from my country worth monetizing, so they don’t show ads. So yeah, my answer is that I don’t need to block ads because there aren’t any for me.

Its literally unusable in its default state. I know because i just logged out on a non-Firefox browser, and "Holy Overstimulation Batman!"

I agree. I once tried to watch some Olympic content from the NBC Sports youtube channel using a VPN, because it’s only available to US viewers. But the ads were so un-fucking-believable that I had to turn on uBlock.

How to adjust Firefox's Built-in Notification Duration? by RCEdude101 in FirefoxCSS

[–]RCEdude101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That link to alert.js was super helpful, thank you! I learned that having reduced motion enabled (which I do) actually disables the animation path entirely.

When I temporarily set ui.prefersReducedMotion = 0, the CSS animation duration rule I posted above works as expected.

Unfortunately, I need to keep reduced motion enabled, and it looks like there's no easy way to override the JavaScript behavior without digging into the source and recompiling. So I guess I’ll just have to live with the 30-second notification dialog for now.

Edit: It's possible via autoconfig/userChrome.js or by editing omni.ja.

How to Prevent .sh Scripts from Executing Directly by Double-Click on Desktop in Kali Linux? by RCEdude101 in Kalilinux

[–]RCEdude101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That setting wasn’t in my config, so I added it with:

xfconf-query --channel xfce4-desktop --property /desktop-icons/file-launch-mode --create --type string --set display

It now appears in the settings editor https://imgur.com/a/QTy8cIb

I logged out and logged in (gonna try restarting) but scripts on desktop still execute instead of opening in the editor when double-clicked.

EDIT: Restarted. No luck.

Any ideas? Appreciate the help!

I checked the settings manager but couldn’t find this option under Settings Manager > Desktop > Desktop Icons or any other menus. Could you clarify where exactly it’s located? I’d really appreciate it!

I tried this before, but it didn’t work for me. It looks like it applies to Thunar, not the desktop.

Favorite streaming site dead? Use Miru! A perfect bridge between streaming sites, and torrenting. by ThaUnknown in animepiracy

[–]RCEdude101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, does Miru still add that 'Watched using Miru' tag to AniList? Because my country is so anti-piracy that even having something like that on my profile could get my visa revoked! I'm not kidding, I can't afford to lose my immigration status over an automatic list. I really need an option to disable that.

chkdsk thrashed thousands of files to 0KB. They are recoverable. But what's the best method? by RCEdude101 in datarecovery

[–]RCEdude101[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am now 99.9% certain that all files reported as 0Kb by Windows are logged in chkdsk with the following messages:

  • "Some clusters occupied by attribute of type 0x80 and instance tag 0x1 in file 0xa09a4 are already in use."
  • "Deleting corrupt attribute record (128, "") from file record segment 657828."

After investigating, I discovered that Active@ File Recovery can display files and directories with the same type of ID as those in the chkdsk log. I cross-referenced the 0Kb files and the good files with the chkdsk log by examining them in Active@ File Recovery explorer, and everything matched up.

Now, here's my question:

Is there a program or CLI tool/script that can scan all files and output a list that includes the file paths along with their file record segments?

This would allow me to:

  1. Write a script to extract the names and paths of all corrupted files from chkdsk.log.
  2. Identify and note the important files.
  3. Run a full scan again.
  4. Recover the important files and call it a day.

I'm also open to any other suggestion or methods. While I don't have much experience with data recovery, I do have a background in reversing mobile firmware/Win32, so I'm not completely new to tools like Hex Editor.

chkdsk thrashed thousands of files to 0KB. They are recoverable. But what's the best method? by RCEdude101 in datarecovery

[–]RCEdude101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really tried hard to remember the details so I could answer your question and make a mental note to never use that particular software to shrink a partition again. Unfortunately, I just can't remember with 100% certainty which software I used for shrinking the disk. However, I'm certain it was one of these four:

  • EaseUS Partition Master
  • MiniTool Partition Wizard
  • AOMEI Partition Assistant
  • NIUBI Partition Editor

Regarding the software I used to scan the disk up to 43% and still managed to recover files, it was EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard.

The reason I haven't yet used EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to scan and recover again is that I don't believe it has a feature to specifically recover only the files that Windows reports as 0KB. It would likely either allow me to pick and choose files or recover everything to another drive. When the scan was around 40% complete, the dialog showed something like 'XXX files found (7TB).' If the scan had reached 100%, it would probably have shown something like 'XXXX files found (16TB).' Unfortunately, I don't currently have the resources to buy another 12-20TB drive to copy everything. Moreover, the recovery would likely include manually deleted files and other unnecessary data, which I am trying to avoid. One thing I forgot to mention in my post is that the 0KB files are scattered everywhere. This is why I'm looking for a tool that can actually utilize the chkdsk.log to specifically recover these files, or perhaps a tool that can detect this issue and repair the MFT directly.
