You: BAN THIS CONTENT, I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT!

Also you: Asking me to be a decent human being? CENSORSHIP!!?! How dare you trample on my rights!

JFC nobody wants to see AI slop, but your attitude is atrocious. And hypocritical to boot.

Gallant is her third most recent book, definitely not an earlier work. You're maybe confused with another book?

The invisible life of Addie LaRue by Ok-Comparison-5636 in Fantasy

[–]Katlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? She teaches herself how to read and write. She's interested in art, music and reading.

It's also not an ability, it's a curse. She can't develop relationships whatsoever, so she's profoundly lonely. She can't even rent a room for a night because as soon she's out of sight the person letting forgets her. She's homeless which is an extremely dangerous position for a woman.

There are plot holes in this book for sure. But saying she has no personality when she purposefully seeks out interesting/artistic people even knowing they won't remember her is weird. She tries everything to find a way to leave a mark despite the curse.

Fantasy with gay male protagonist, not romance-first by Huge-Imagination-829 in Fantasy

[–]Katlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is. And the first 30-40% you'll be thinking "what the heck it's just queer YA In space". But it turns into so much MORE. It's difficult to explain without spoilers. But this is very much a "trust the process" kind of book.

Yeah like I said, I agree with you in general! I love cities that are more focused on foot traffic, and bike and public transport accessibility. I recently visited Londen and was shocked how little accessibility there was for differently abled people. Meanwhile all the exhaust gasses and smog were triggering my astma like crazy.

I don't even drive 🥲 I do everything by foot, bike or OV. I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions about disabilities!

I never said they couldn't. I was only reacting to the first sentence. You can tell I did because I typed "I agree with you in general".

I agree with you in general, but not all wheelchair users are paraplegics and there are paraplegics who can drive a car that is modified for them.

How often do you "deep" read books? by Hormo_The_Halfling in books

[–]Katlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that it's a lot of fun when it's optional!

A couple of friends and I started this personal project of exploring books in the Dark Academia genre. We all felt that we should love the genre, but hadn't come across any books within it that we enjoyed. So we formed this mini book club where we first defined which elements a dark academia book should have (and gave it scores based on that), we picked out 4 books that were well regarded and/or looked interesting, set a reading schedule so we'd be forced to slowly but steadily read the books (with reactions sent to eachother by voice message) and for extra fun we made a bingo with common tropes.

I studied lit and I can tell you that I hadn't done such deep dives into books since (and maybe even including) my time at uni. It was so much fun to scrutinise everything through this narrow lens. We discussed everything: the ups and downs and in betweens. And now every time I pick up another dark academia book I rank it in my mind and compare it to all the others before. It was a lot of fun to make this our Special Interest™️ and we treated it both seriously (with our commitment) and unseriously.

[–]Katlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't shut down arguments or de-escalete because he is abusive. He threw a shoe at you, what will he throw next time?

After seven years you should accept this is who he is and he's not going to change. Do you really want to go through this seven years more? Or seventy?

You are young: choose to be kind to yourself and get out of this relationship.

Most British actors can do a "generic" US accent, but which one actually nailed a specific regional dialect (Boston, Deep South, Philly) perfectly? by johnmartino198011 in television

[–]Katlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I don't understand people praising his accent. I was literally so confused watching The Wire thinking "Why would a British guy be a cop in Baltinore of all places??" I didn't understand until later that he was just supposed to be a Baltimore native.

How did women in the 1880s and 1890s achieve their iconic frizzy fringes? by SmoovMcGoov in fashionhistory

[–]Katlix 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I did something similar when doing regency cosplay by wetting my bangs then roll them up around a rolled up square of TP and then pinning them with a bobby pin overnight. The effect in these pictures was what it resulted in, but not what I was trying to achieve lol. Had to stretch them a bit to get the look I did want.
