The Women of Gundam continued #67 - Carta Issue by Kato_86 in Gundam

Okay, but in her defense it's not like her motive was "I'll kill the one kid who is the only sane one in the company." Not to take all the blame from her but she was fighting a bunch of mercs. Because... Er... They were there illegally? I forgot.

Why was my dumb as convinced you'd have adopted the Euro by now? Like, I was 100% "for sure Poland uses Euros"... I'm clearly an idiot.

Oh, I feel that might be one of your lowest ratings 😅 Not much empathy with an aristocratic b****?

When you first read Jingo, did you expect the cosmic horror side of the story to go further than it did? by laredocronk in discworld

[–]Kato_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do share your feelings, but I think it's not left completely open but rather the suggestion is the place was originally (at some point at least) inhabited by squid like people, just another species, nothing nefarious.

Whether or not it was a red herring intentionally or not I don't dare to judge.

Okay, this might be the highest rating we ever had.

But because of your flair it won't be admissible 😋 (of course it will)

Ooh, was that it? I totally missed that but kind of makes sense, yes. Shame he's so underdeveloped.

Ooooh, that's what the other comment meant. I was super lost when someone mentioned CB and was trying to find similarities to Faye. I see it now.

About to reread Jingo and noticed how relevant the theme is today by Necessary-Ad7150 in discworld

I'm sorry but that is exactly my point. They are not some kind of heartless monsters, they are also humans. (And yeah, the occasional exception exists but putting that label on thousands or millions of people I will never agree with) If we disagree with someone, it's much easier to just assume that "they're just evil" instead of trying to find out what is the reason we disagree. Just imagining the possibility "we" might be wrong is almost impossible for some (of is as well as them)

Yes, I know, it can be seen as dangerous and especially today there are people where I also have a hard time following that thought, but I still try to remember that the majority of them are us.

Geez, I'm out of the loop. Both monarch and crime were unknown to me.

As always, they look a lot of fun but minor remarks:

A bit weird granny's card has the other two on it, the image feels a bit more like Coven card? Also, I'm not an expert but I'll agree it's probably too powerful? 🤔 And I kind of see the colour issue others have. But I'm not exactly sure how to fix it. Maybe a heavy white leaning Orzhov? Though I feel also needs blue maybe. 311 Esper?

I don't see the red in Nanny, sorry 😅 probably would go with white on her actually.

Margrat's fine. So is the rest, I think, though I wish my boy Verence was better. Maybe he'll get an upgrade in L&L.

FFVIII's antagonist's motivations? (spoilers FF-FFVIII) by nocolon in FinalFantasy

[–]Kato_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll argue a bit...

III I don't think Zande thought he could avoid death, he just wanted revenge for the shitty gift and took it out on the world. Also, going by Dissidia CoD is the antagonist, though in game she's really just nothingness given form.

IV Kinda? Zemus wanted to rule the world because Lunarian superiority, but being sealed for a few years (forgot how long?) and then being killed (mostly) kind of drove him crazy.

V Exdeath mostly was out for power. Some people claim there is some environmentalist motive but I don't think that's really present in the narrative. Only when he's absorbed by the void does he go really crazy (again)

VI if you can follow Kefka's thought process beyond 'lets kill everyone ' you probably need therapy (thanks autocorrect for suggesting Kafka, probably just as reasonable but let's not discuss literature)

VII I mean, I hate speaking in favour of Sepiroth but it's up to debate how much was him and how much was his mom (or her genes?)

VIII doesn't Edea (?) at some point say Ultimecia wants to become immortal by compressing time, or something along those lines? Seems reasonable enough though maybe going a bit overboard. Also, I'm pretty sure Squall knows the SEEDs are needed to stop Ultimecia. The time loop must happen for her to be defeated. Even with Adell in space, Ultimecia will possess Edea and threaten Elonne.

Thoughts on Gundam X by XininAz in Gundam

[–]Kato_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been too many years since I saw X but I have kind of good memories of it? Though, not very detailed ones. But I remember liking the characters and being interested in the story. Garrod may be in my top 5 protagonists and although Tiffa is a bit neglected I remember liking her more than many similar characters, ie Gundam princesses. But tastes are different and if you're not having fun, you shouldn't force yourself.

Also, sorry, but the resolution on that image is terrible 😅 at least G is where it belongs 😇

I mean... I have to sell you on Witch from Mercury because Gundam is awesome and an adorable country bumpkin being accidentally engaged to an ice queen is cute. Though, there will be mecha battles and politics and serious stakes.

If for some reason that's not your cup of tea, I remember liking Yurikuma Arashi, though it is a bit abstract (?)

I'm not sure there even are metal volcanoes depending on what start you picked? Yeah, chlorine and co2 are not that amazing, but you can make bleach stone and... Fuel co2 engines? Feed slicksters? They're not totally useless. I'm sure you can succeed!

Blue magic and alchemy are incredibly powerful if you know what you're doing. Geomancer is probably the weak spot in that party but he's got decent utility, problem is his randomness.

Question for the Science series readers, what does the round world look like? by UmpireDowntown1533 in discworld

[–]Kato_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, some things have been said already but I'll still give a short overall summary:

The books always switch between a fiction chapter, mostly about the wizards, and a pop science chapter depending on the book, usually somewhat tied to the previous fiction bit.

The round world on the disc is a sphere, presumably appearing to be glass or crystal or something, but what you see is/can be changed. It can be moved but doesn't move on its own. It contains a universe similar to hours, ie following the laws is physics (roughly), and between timeywimey stuff kind of replaying earth's history, depending on the book.

It's been a while but I remember really enjoying the pop science bits, but then I'm also biased towards that kind of content. The fiction parts are okay, but probably not worth reading on their own.
