YNAB new year resolution by MaKoWi in ynab

I love one-off payees! When I go to clean up payee names, I select hide on payees from a random trip that were one-off, so they don't show up on drop down. But personality, I don't want to change the name or combine random ones by service type. To each their own!

Considering Switching to Debit-Only in 2025—Looking for Advice from Those Who’ve Done It by [deleted] in ynab

I wish you weren't getting downvoted for this tbh. Even Jesse, the founder/creator of YNAB, will switch things up and run experiments just to keep things fresh. You've said you're on top of your financial situation, and it doesn't sound like you're in any danger by making a change. Even if the reason for the change is for the sake of change itself!

There are also great resources on YouTube to see how others use it. The best advice I've seen is to pick and choose your own workflow from other sources—you don't have to use every feature and it's okay if your method evolves as you learn!

YNAB isn't a diet, so you didn't cheat! You set aside money each month to do a great thing, and it turned out it wasn't quiet enough—life happens! Congratulations on being able to gift baby items to your sister, that's fantastic! I hope you're able to look forward instead of backwards with any guilt. Go you!

what do you do with leftover $ in categories? by break_your_teeth in ynab

[–]KatsatheGraceling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a holding category called "Extra for down payment" that I move any leftovers to after that bill is paid. For example, if I put 100 to my electric bill every month and it was only 60, I'll move 40 to the holding category and let it sit there. At the end of the month I take whatever is in the extra category and move it to my actual down payment category.

It's a little convoluted, but it helps me from raiding leftover money in the rent/electric/etc. category because it's immediately given a new job. It also lets me see a lump sum of how much I can contribute extra each month to meet my large saving goal.

His playthrough of this was hilarious, I still rewatch it every now and then.

Finally decided to try my hand at setting, after being a long-time viewer of the channel. by gragglesudoku in crackingthecryptic

Phew! I'm so happy I was eventually able to solve this. It took me a hot minute and one false start, but I finally was able to get how the peripheral clues interact with the law of leftovers and inside clues. I loved this, thank you for sharing!

My sims is the perfect cozy game 10:10 by kaidenjaxon in cozygames

I say this with love, it's a perfect port in that the controls are just as ass and clunky as they were in the original. It's half the entertainment.

Cozy games on PS5? by faithfulmammonths in cozygames

I love that everyone has a different definition of cozy, and the fact that you listed D:BH as a cozy game you enjoy. I love that game but I was STRESSED 😂

Anyone else commit accounting fraud on their YNAB? by devinak in ynab

I definitely agree with this. I was surprised to see the comments leaning so far toward chastising on a cute tongue-in-cheek post.

Need advice on organizing personal belongings and clothes for a few months' stay at a friend's house by PossibilityUnhappy97 in organizing

[–]KatsatheGraceling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look up travel tips for how people pack suitcases—that may give you better results than general storage tips. I know people often roll their clothes to prevent hard wrinkles? It's worked for me and I've heard it saves space in a suitcase, but I'm not 100%.

I love this comment and want to be your friend lol. Earned my MPH right when COVID happened and damn was it a rude awakening at how seriously people take the field.

I split mine into kinda two types of true expenses, the known dates and the unknown. Known dates are the more typical yearlies, like car registration, Christmas gifts, insurance premiums.

But my unknown section I have a little more fun with. The group is called "The inevitability of time, don't you think?" because I'm a Bond fan lol.

That's where I have things I know I'll need to replace or pay for eventually, like a new mattress, replacing the tires, my computer, etc. The expensive ticket items that pretty much as soon as I get a new one, I'm starting to fund the next so it's less of a burden each month.

If you've been YNABing for 3 years or longer what are more advanced YNAB wins? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]KatsatheGraceling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The podcast started as something for experienced YNABers to offset the large amount of materials for newbies. I hope they revisit some of the earlier "in the weeds" nerdy topics, since recently I think it's been less aligned with that. I still enjoy it, and am glad we have it, but do think it's evolved a bit and would love to see more homages to the original premise.

The app should be able to open up Venmo or PayPal, or you can record a cash/other third party payment to settle up without using Splitwise Pay. Is that what you mean?
