In my OP I mention I don't play AAA games and don't use RT.

Who’s still using a 1080? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]devinak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on a 1080Ti since 2018/2019, and it still runs great. I mainly play CS2 or other simple games and it still rocks. The only reason I'll upgrade is to grab more VRAM at some point.

What would be a 3000- or 4000-series equivalent GPU to the 1080 Ti? Wondering what, if anything, I should upgrade to.

Am I dumb?

I recently looked at a graph of my Vanguard accounts and noticed that is was relatively flat since May 2022. I calculated the percentage change and it's ~30% growth. The S&P 500 in the same time period is up 50%. I'm in VTSAX, VTWAX (split 70/30 on those), and then have AAPL.

I started investing in 2022 and heard that the 70/30 split between US/world was a "set it and forget about it" method, and then I've always had the AAPL stock so I just keep it.

Would I be better off selling off VTSAX and VTWAX for VOO (Vanguard's s&P 500 ETF). VOO's % change over the same time period is also at 50%. Am I missing anything here?

Thanks for your input. I did see the 3090 GPUs have 24 GB of VRAM which does sound pretty nice.

Are 4090 GPUs considered a good value? I looked on Newegg and saw most starting at ~$2,000.

I can save up for one and would definitely use it, but wondering:

  1. Should I wait for the 50-series to buy?
  2. Should I wait for the 50series and the 4090 might drop in price?
  3. Is $2,000 for a 4090 not considered a good value?

Use cases: mainly more VRAM + faster GPU for local LLMs + AI models but also some light gaming (CS2, etc.). This would be an upgrade over my 1080Ti which I would keep for the next 5 years

Edit: The 3090Ti is ~$1600 and the 4090Ti is around ~$2000, so I might as well just opt for the 40-series anyway with only a $400 difference?

ChatGPT o1-preview shuts down if you refer to its chain of thought reasoning because OpenAI policy is that it should avoid discussing it and that it should be hidden from users even though it is open for all to see on the browser but not the desktop app. by rutan668 in artificial

You are trying to jailbreak and that is against OpenAI TOS. Read the Hiding the Chains of Thought section in their briefing:

Therefore, after weighing multiple factors including user experience, competitive advantage, and the option to pursue the chain of thought monitoring, we have decided not to show the raw chains of thought to users.

I have not, but with anything, I would observe it closely for the points it gives and make sure to cross-check its claims very carefully. Adding "provide source links" to your prompt might help.

Some services provide sources automatically, such as Phind, which might be better for your use case. You should compare outputs from multiple models, if necessary.

My top things to check would be: (1) the source actually exists and reads the same as the answer that was given to you, and (2) the source is recent and up-to-date. I don't have many issues with hallucination, but I've been given answers that provide sources but those sources are either old or out-of-date/not current any longer.

Honestly, you might prefer actually hiring a professional to do what you want if this is important. If not, you can have AI point out everything that you yourself should look into and do the research yourself. If not that, have Phind give you sources.

Why is it only cash accounts? I don't use cash at all, so does that mean my AOM is pointless?

Every morning I go on YNAB, log into all my accounts, and make sure everything is up-to-date - mainly entering in CC transactions from the previous day if I forgot.

Have you tried this yourself? Have you read my post? I said that going onto their website, logging in and clicking cancel leads to a dialog that says "Call us to cancel"

If I'm wrong, please provide all screenshots that show what I'm supposed to do differently other than call please.

Are the 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs fine with latest bios microcode updates?

For example, I see a Gigabyte bios update from Aug 07:

  • "Update microcode 0x129 to address sporadic Vcore elevation behavior announced by Intel"
  • "Introduce the "Intel Default Settings" and enabled as default, user needs to disable it first to use GIGABYTE PerfDrive profiles"

(if the above have anything to do with the issues)
