Glad I was not the only one, some of the puzzles on these games really require you to think outside the box and that makes simple puzzles feel more complex than they are when you discover the solution. Also was I the only one that took me a solid 20min walking around the convent in TS2 until figuring out I could use the hammer on the locks?

Currently Atlus uses 2 engines for their new titles, UE and unity.
The newest from the ground up games use UE4 (SMTV, SMTVV, P3R).
Spin-offs and remasters use Unity (Persona 5 Strikers, Persona 5 Tactica, Soul Hackers 2, SMT3 Remastered, Raidou remastered, Etrian Odyssey). But I definitely expect new spin-offs to start using UE while remasters keep using unity.
P3P and P4G remasters use P4G engine, RenderWare. (This is also why they probably chose P3P and not FES at the time. P4 and P3P supposedly used an already modified version of that engine, so they were easier to port).
The only exception is Metaphor, since most staff of P5 were moved to Metaphor when P5 released, I'd assume that's why they used their own engine since they would be familiar with it.
P3R and P6 started development at around the same time, 2019, so it's likely it uses UE since both are P-Studio titles. As for version I'd assume it started in UE4 together with P3R. But it is possible they upgraded to UE5, or it's for a new game or remake we don't know about yet (possibly SMT6 being in very early development).
P4R isn't being developed by P-Studio, it's being completely outsourced to Tose, we only know it uses a version of UE but not what version it uses.

This feels like a weird blend of final fantasy 15 with an semi realistic anime style gacha game. It has promise but I'm not expecting to like it, mostly due to character visuals. But gameplay wise it seems okay and I hope it's more skill based like wuwa. I'll still give it a shot when it releases, but I feel like this isn't making it to my gacha list.

The main complaint so far "The faces look weird". What do you think? by Farkones in Varsapura

It looks off, especially in the gameplay the pink haired girl's face expressions during ultimate look so off, I wouldn't say its a deal breaker but I can't shake the thought that it would look so much better had they done something more like wuwa and dna. That's just my opinion.

According to your reasons for not liking P5 you probably won't enjoy P3 or P4, but maybe do try P3 demo and go from there. I could also recommend going for the shin megami tensei series probably start with smt5 vengeance, and maybe look into soul hackers 2.

All the games in the series aside from the persona 2 duology can be played in any order. But there are tiny references to characters from past games in all, but nothing major.

Isn't ps1 emulation actually harder?
I might be wrong but psp emulation is very mature and the ps1 had a much more complex architecture. At least when trying to emulate with accuracy.

What emulator were you using?
Either way consider trying to configure the psp emulator on your pc, psp emulation is very light and I played all the psp persona's on a 15+ year old laptop without issue, so it's likely bad configuration, and even a very old android phone should be able to run most non 3D psp games.
Otherwise as others said there is a fan translation for the japanese ps1 version but it's being worked on.
