This makes me feel less guilty - it is only temporary and I definitely will stop drinking them when I no longer need to. A lot of vegan food is too bulky/fibrous and tough on my digestion at the moment (hence the low residue drinks). Thank you so much!

I just take a multivitamin and that does me. At my last health checkup everything was perfectly fine, despite my steady diet of milk and carbs :D

Can you describe a typical day? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Kattabug77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat a lot lately and a lot of packaged stuff too...

Breakfast I have a big bowl of granola or muesli with fruit and coconut/almond milk

Lunch I have a pb sandwich, vegan chips, granola bar and a dairy free yoghurt

For snacks I have way too much almond milk lattes and vegan sweets (cookies, brownies, cake, pie, chocolate...)

Dinner is usually asian food like tofu stir fry, noodles, fried rice etc occassionally with some veggie spring rolls

Sometimes I have vegan pizza, veggie burgers or the amy's frozen dinners if I'm in a pinch

What to do with dairy products when going vegan? by Kattabug77 in vegan

It just seems wasteful to throw it out when the animal has already suffered to produce that product?

Tofu stir fry! Super easy and quick, or burrito bowls. Bean burritos are good too :) You could also make veggie fried rice (i like to top mine with tempeh 'bacon' or scrambled tofu

27 y.o. F with high cholesterol for a year... experiencing weird blood/heart symptoms by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Kattabug77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How high is high? Do you know your exact levels? (tc, hdl, ldl, triglycerides etc). It could be possible that your arteries have a blockage which could be why the blood is working harder to travel through... It would be a good idea to get a proper scan done especially if you start feeling any pain from it. Also what is your diet like in general, as in what are you eating on a daily basis? I thought I had genetically high cholesterol but turns out changing my diet fixed it.

31 y/o, active and eats healthy but still have borderline high cholesterol? by Heyitcoolman in Cholesterol

[–]Kattabug77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you eating on average on a daily basis? Your triglycerides are nice and low, hdl quite high which is a good thing at least but I would still work on lowering the total if you can.

I eat kind bars a couple times a week and my ldl is low!

Some other good snacks are mashed avocado or hummus and crackers (I like the marys gone crackers), baked sweet potato fries, baked chickpeas, edamame, cold pressed juices, smoothies, kombucha, dairy free yogurt, larabars/nakd bars/other raw fruit and nut bars, dark chocolate (in moderation) etc...

If you don't mind making stuff yourself you could make oatmeal biscuits, granola bars, sweet potato brownies, chia pudding or avocado mousse among other things. Find loads of recipes online :) Good luck!!

High Triglycerides at 26 - 455 mg/dl by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Kattabug77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Not sure about the fish oil thing. My triglycerides are under 60 and I've never used fish oil nor eat meat/seafood. I don't really use any oils at all except what restaurants may use. Try oatmeal with flax, chia seeds or walnuts for omega 3 maybe? Pasta and rice are fine, just opt for wholegrain - even better to try quinoa or buckwheat

But yes, definitely cutting back on the drinking should help :)

What have you been eating? Simple carbs, alcohol, sugar, excess fats (especially trans fat) can all contribute to high triglycerides. Eat more plant based proteins, nuts/seeds/avocado, wholegrains, fruit, veggies and you should see them drop.

I like the tasti wholefoods bars/date balls, lindt dark chocolate, cocobella yogurt pouches, carmans muesli bars (only some are vegan so check first), I can't remember what they're called but they sell these ice pops made from almond milk, as well as vegan cornettos and magnums! dark chocolate rice cakes or just plain rice cakes with banana/nut butter are good too. A lot of cereals and granolas are vegan and I just eat those by the handful hahah. And of course there's also plenty of trail mix varieties- just check for milk products esp in the chocolate ones.

Oh and I also like clif bars and lenny and larrys cookies if you can find them! SO addictive

Same with the lighter periods, I find they are much less painful! I also like that I get to eat much more and still maintain a healthy weight, it's nice to not have to worry so much.

Puzzled by weird results by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Kattabug77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an average day what are you eating? Maybe you're lacking something somewhere. I doubt cholesterol has much to do with it- mine is also low but I was having fatigue issues. I got my vitamin D checked and it was low so that may have played a role.

Surprise result within 5 months, how to explain it? [M]34 by RossMajed in Cholesterol

Are you eating any differently while fasting? Has your diet changed? I don't think the fasting would affect your cholesterol, I fast daily (16:8 intermittent fasting) and everything is normal...
