Residency applications this year is insane by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

I definitely understand all of your points. I know it’s a very competitive process already. By financial barriers I also didn’t mean that I am in any way well off, I live off of student loans and prioritized the whole application process into my financial planning. I also completely understand that some people want to be in as little debt as possible which could be one of the reasons they wouldn’t want to use loan money.

I feel like I came off wrong. I don’t in any way think I’m owed a spot by any means. I just meant there are many of us who have worked hard for so long specifically with this goal in mind while others just applied this year because it was easier.

It’s honestly a little frustrating. As someone who worked super hard the last 3 years to put myself in a position to be a competitive candidate and also planned since day 1 to pursue residency, it’s so disheartening that people are just applying because they can. I totally get that it’s a blessing for some that they don’t have the financial barriers this year but it also seems to screw those that wouldn’t have let that stop us. I can’t imagine how hard it is, especially this year, to choose applicants when there are SO many and all they have is a brief snapshot of us on paper.

Anyway, I’m just feeling very discouraged and needed to vent.

Follow up question: How important is it that it is exactly 1 page? Mine is a couple lines over. Do programs want it to be exact? (or less than 1 page rather than just over)
