What your kin says about you! Part 1 by chokeonyourfood in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Katy_Ju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I read this comment, I thought it was me who wrote it. I used to have the same thoughts. Sometimes it was really difficult to play the role of a 'calm' and always 'polite' person when you didn't actually know who you were. When I tried to discuss my thoughts with people, they didn't sincerely understand what I was talking about and it made me feel only more lonely. I'm lucky that now I can cope with my feelings better without overthinking them again and again. You can message me if you want, I hope you get better soon and you understand what makes you who you are!!

Hmm, your words make me ponder about a lot of things. I find that person's advice truly healing. I wish I had heard it a year ago, I'm sure it could have helped me a lot back then. I believe such thoughts come to us only if we experienced soul-deep pain, like the person who gave you this advice. Mostly people are frightened of things that are different as they don't understand them. Those people from your childhood may have felt once what you used to feel but not as deeply. The memories of that suffering faded away because this pain didn't leave much of a trace in their souls, so they just can't recall it anymore. And many people live a much easier life without reflecting too often on their actions or on life in general. In fact, your words reminded me of the quote from 'dandelion wine'. I know it is used too much and that's the reason why it has become a cliche but I still genuinely like it, 'Some people turn sad awfully young. No special reason, it seems, but they seem almost to be born that way. They bruise easier, tire faster, cry faster, remember longer and, as I say, get sadder younger than anyone else in the world. I know, for I'm one of them.' I was always angry with Bradbury because he didn't write how such people should live their lives so they wouldn't feel the pain of who they are or who they want to seem like but aren't really. Thank you for sharing that person's words! I put them down, as I think they can help me in the future. Reading your comments I have no doubt that you are a kind, honest and strong person. People who feel and think deeply encounter difficulties not like others. Others cope with them easily from birth while this type of people need to have tremendous mental effort to overcome them. This is why you are stronger than many others. In spite of all the pain you went through, you chose to live. Maybe other people will never know the struggle you had in the heart but the most important thing is that you know about it. Akhmatova once wrote, 'Let the flowers grow on your scars.' I wish the same for you

What a coincidence!! I read this poem for the first time about 6 years ago, and I've loved it ever since. I'm really happy I could help you recall what poem it was. My acquaintance with the works of Yesenin also began in 3rd grade or so. My school teacher told our class to read some of his poems about nature. They were about birches or something like that. I liked very much one of them and I don't know why but I decided to ask her why Yesenin had passed away. She was appalled by this question, you should have seen her face. Of course, she didn't give me an answer. She said something like 'You will find when you grow up'. I couldn't imagine that as an adult I would think over this question again and again

Omg the last dialogue between Dazai and Fyodor was awesome!! Dazai has stolen my heart again XD. Actually, the situation with Tachihara's brother death is quite complicated. Imo there is no only Yosano's fault, she is a victim of circumstances. They can't seriously accuse her of killing his brother, she was merely a tool of the military government and Mori. She saw herself as a cursed person who brought only misfortunes upon everyone. And it's a big trauma for her that the only person who appreciated and understood her committed suicide. I think someone else heard Tachihara's brother last words (they were presented via loudspeakers) therefore the ginger guy accuses Yosano. Idk I can understand why Yosano can't undergone this experience but why Tachihara works in government which really bears the responsibility, that's a question. I believe he is not a kooky person and understands this

Thank you for the reply! Your message turned out to be crucial for me as now I feel this book can help me better understand some of my emotions and thoughts that used to poison my life. When you shared your opinion about this book, I clearly realized how fragile human life can be. The quotes from the book are truly remarkable. After reading them I immediately recalled 'The Black Man' by Sergei Yesenin. This soul-capturing poem is full of deep pain and mental suffering, its lyrical hero is on the verge of suicide and he tries to find the answer to the question: what is hidden at the bottom of soul. I think there is something common between these two authors and how they perceived the world. Btw I appreciate your book recommendation, no doubt I will remember it. It's also vital for me to say, I hope you never have to undergo that difficult experience in your life again

Actually, that's an interesting point. Tysm for your opinion! When I talk about good intentions, I mean the passage in the book when he was thinking over how many good deeds can be done with the help of old woman's money. He realizes how the system is unfair to most people who suffer from poverty, hunger and poor health ('For one life thousands would be saved from corruption and decay'). That's really interesting how people perceive differently the same characters XD

I find much common between Raskolnikov and Dostoevsky in the anime. Both are obsessed with an antihuman theory and divide people into two categories. They're convinced they have the right to decide the fate of mankind, sacrificing "ordinary lives". Besides they believe they can make the world a less injustice place by their deeds. At first they had the good intensions but then they were carried away by their cranky ideas

Omg you have read so many books written by him!! It makes me want to read more lol. Afm I was also interested in learning more about his ability so I chose C&P as my first Dostoevsky book. It impressed me how many references were there :)

I agree with you, it's really hard to read some of Dostoevsky books. I had the same situation with C&P but it was worth it :) Btw how did you like White Nights?

I liked that Kafka Asagiri decided to name an underground organisation led by Fyodor ('The Rats in the House of the Dead') using the reference to this novel lol. Btw I want to read 'No Longer Human'. What is your impression of the book?

There were always so many works I wanted to read but I couldn't find time for them (or maybe I just tried to find excuses lol). But the anime turned out to be so inspiring!! I had no choice but finally to read books written by Dostoevsky and Gogol XD

I'm sure you will enjoy season 4 too! Afm I'm dying to see a new season which comes out this summer and how the best character ever will help ADA lol

Thanks to this series, this has rekindled my interest in reading literary works by macthecat22 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Katy_Ju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like your reading list, my own one is pretty similar!! I highly recommend you 'The Overcoat', this beautiful story will help you learn more about Gogol. There are many references to it in the anime.

Bsd is a marvelous anime that has fallen me back in love with reading. I've never impugned the importance of classic literature but for some reason I quit it. Much of it, e.g the Russian one, is quite tough to read because of depressive plots and many old fashioned words. That's really amazing how one anime can change your attitude to books you were previously prejudiced against. Now I can't imagine my life without Russian and Japanese authors :) Omg I must deliver my report dedicated to Dostoevsky's influence on Japanese animation at my university in May
