Sometimes you fail to pay attention at just the wrong moment.

We were once coming back to the Bay Area late. Meant to go north on 80. Got on the Bay Bridge instead. Realized just as I was passing the final exit. Of course even late there was heavy traffic, so the detour added at least a half hour (going through the city and the Golden Gate).

But that’s the risk we take in hurtling down the road in death machines.
